I agree! I don't usually watch shows like that either but everyone I know kept talking about it. On Monday evening, I decided to just watch the first episode to see what it's about. 10 hours later, I binged the entire show in one night! Lol
Wow, ever never imagined you'd share how to make Dalgona in your channel! So happy to see it. Just a little tip I'd like to share with everyone. If you are making it just to play the shape-cutting game, ignore this. But if you are someone who actually likes eating Dalgona, I recommend adding a couple drops of vanilla extract, which helps to get rid of that bitter taste from baking soda :)
Made these last night for my kids, they loved it! I use another sheet of oiled parchment on top of the Dalgona then pressed it with my measuring cup, which worked well.
I just wanted to see the first episode to see what was up & holy crap, I couldn't stop. It was the best show I've seen in awhile. Highly recommended!! 🖤
As a Korean, I’m so happy that u made this video! This is pretty accurate. If u dont have stain ladle u can use a pot as well though it will be harder to work with. After cooking the candies, put water in the ladle and it will melt the sugars. Dalgona is actually pretty easy to make! Anyway, John, I’m happy that u r uploading vids more often and u covered a korean recipe! Hope i can get to see more.
As a Korean man lived in countryside when I was young and mastered homemade Dalgonas since then, I could share some useful tips and tricks with making good looking and tasty Dalgona snack. If you don't have a parchment paper with you, spread some good amount of sugar that would literally pile on your tray like a snow. Dalgona mixture won't stick on the tray if there's enough sugar on the bottom. I don't have an oven tray so I just do it on my cutting board. Works great. I liked when John used a measuring cup which was just brilliant... if you have a burger press or something that's more flat on the edge it would do better job for making more appealing shape. Spraying or oiling your press might affect to the taste of Dalgona so I prefer to heat the press a little bit on stove and firmly press on the sugar pile so the coated sugar on the press will do the job. Also when you're suffering with Dalgona mixture sticking to your press, try cooling down the mixture at least 30 seconds before pressing down. Waiting enough until the mixture dries and solidifies just enough that you could still press it down and make a shape with cookie cutter is the key. You could see how John pulled his ladle away from the heat right after he put the baking soda, and this is very important although he didn't point it out in the video. Overheating the mixture when it starts to rise will easily burn the mixture and make too many air bubbles, also the result will look like a dirty sponge. You'll just wanna mix it until you see the beautiful cappuccino color and do not overheat it. Oh and here goes the general rule when serving Dalgonas to your friends: If you love them a lot, press the shape cutter hard as you can and spank the shit down on the tray. If you hate them and want them to get shot in heads, carefully press it down as if you could see a mere trace of lines.
P.S. If you enjoy playing games but not really into its sugary sweet taste, break the candy down and mix it with hot milk or coffee, it will make your morning good
I have been cruising these videos of white people making these looking for tips from a Korean. Finally here you are. Ty. No one knows better than the people who invented it. Like trying to eat gumbo from a restaurant in WI. No ty,I'll make it myself. 🤣🤣Ty so much
Thanks for doing this, John! My kid asked me to make this today and I told him to get lost after looking up how to make it. Then I saw you and said I'll try it, because one of my fave cooks is showing me how. I'm off to make it for him. Thanks for taking the time to show us!
Hi John!! Oh My GOD !! Dalgona is awesome !!! This is almost similar to the way I made it in Korea when I was a kid! Thank you for letting me remember.
This video was so much fun to watch! I’ve been watching your videos for years now but I feel like it was really nice to just see you having fun with a Challenge and watching your personality shine through!
I'm watching Squid Game for the plot. By the plot I mean Sae-byeok 🥵 SPOILERS, her and Ji-yeong are girlfriends and they're ALIVE. They go to Jeju Island together and drink mojitos 🥺❤
As korean, nowadays we sometimes put dalgona into coffee, like americano, cafemocha, latte and other recipes of each street cafes. I don't know who started but it was nice try
I started watching the squid game yday and finished about an hour ago! Man oh man… I gotta try this for Halloween party with kids. Winner gets extra candy haha 😛
I make mine with a combo of white sugar, brown sugar, and stevia. Adding a few drops of orange essential oil for an extra nice taste at the end. I've personally never had an issue, so far, with it sticking. Never used any cooking spray. Just timed it right I guess. I also have an electric burner which I haven't had an issues with just takes a little longer than a gas stove. Very fun to make. I'm making some on sticks for kiddos to hand out for Halloween with a pumpkin shape. I used one of the sticks with some coconut oil to make eyes and mouth. Very cute. It will be my first to handing out candy for Halloween so very excited.
That’s too funny! I binged watched it too but not all in two days. I think it would be cool if you did a zoom challenge with some of the viewers. And your husband can pull the trigger on the Zoomer who breaks their cookie! I would love to see that !
That was amazing, thank you so much. My son is hosting a Halloween party and asked me if I can make a bunch for him and his mates, he linked your video as a reference.
Ohh God I was putting the kids asleep when I saw the notification of the upload. Watching it without sound was an actual torture, but now I'm free from the bedroom 😅 Perfect, as always ❤️
Haven't been that gripped by a show since Maniac (also Netflix) a few years ago, Watchmen, and Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (sadly, cancelled). Fun to see you and Babish make this cookie, especially the timer lol.
I really liked this recipe and preparation process before the fire is turned on. I liked the music adding to the heat of this simple yet crazy horror social Squid Game dalgona popularity. 😱⭐️
I can’t remember how many times I cried from that show… but it was definitely a lot. Many people are saying it was “too graphic” but the show is more than that.
My experience with squid game was : me being unable to sleep for a week because of how scared I was, I didn't sleep all night the day I watched it then was forced to sleep for an hour, that one hour gave me a nightmare and I woke up smiling really big, telling my sister about the dalgona candy and how I died in squid game while not being aware of what I was saying, my poor sister was asking me about my college lectures that I missed because I was busy explaining to her about the how I died BECAUSE THATS WHAT I THOUGHT SHE ASKED ME 😭😂
Yayyy I am glad you enjoyed making it along with trying the challange. I love watching your videos and you may want to know as a little fact that in korea, we call it Ppopki (뽑기).
The dalgona game in the squid game was first played by street vendors in Korea from the 60's to the 80's. For each success level, a prize made of sugar was given. The most important thing is that the thickness should be very thin. All foreign RU-vidrs ignored this.
One night at midnight (last night) I decided I would do this, the first mistake I made was using a plastic spoon. Let’s just say these were part sugar part plastic by the end. 😳😳🤣
