Dallas Austin helped make a lot of hits with TLC. In a clip from part two of his Questlove Supreme interview in Atlanta, the producer-songwriter reveals how FanMail was 20-plus years ahead of its time-thanks to virtual rapper Vic-E. Although he loves that album, Dallas recalls a differing vision with Lisa Left Eye Lopes on its rollout. He recalls overcoming the hurdles to deliver yet another smash hit, even if Questlove wishes one song would have had more legs.

Lisa has worked with several other producers like JD, and Organized Noise with no issues. She has also done several collaborations outside of TLC so clearly she wasn't the problem. Dallas has bumped heads with several artists, he's an arrogant jerk who needs to keep her name out of his mouth. She made it very clear before she passed that she wasn't cool with him.

@@LordHaveMurcielago Eh. How long did it take for Dallas to push Chilli to the forefront? Up to that point, he seemed to always favor T-Boz. Most of his productions on CrazySexyCool are literally JUST T-Boz (and Debra.) He didn't even put Chilli anywhere on "Creep." Despite being his woman, Chilli was usually sidelined along with Left Eye.

I like Dallas, I really do. I think he was one of the best producers of the 90s, but you can tell that he's a control freak. He's not into "collaborating with" the artist. He wants to control the session and make all the creative decisions. If they happen to have an idea that he agrees with he'll use it, but he's not gonna let them control anything. That's where he and Lisa bumped heads. JD and Organized Noize probably allowed Left Eye space to interject her input moreso than Dallas.

@@pensiveczar2239 were you surprised to hear the recent Suge Knight interview?He revealed that Lisa allegedly slept with Dallas and when Chilli found out she confronted Lisa, and Lisa was pretty much like “girl..Oh, well” and unapologetic about the whole thing. lol

@@LordHaveMurcielago I don't believe Suge he's always starting mess and instigating beef between them. He did the same thing when Lisa was alive by starting drama. Lisa and Dallas didn't get along at all so I dont believe it, if he had said Tboz that's more believable.

left eye was being phased out of the group after the first album to be honest. I understand her frustration and why she started to venture out. she was ahead of her time, and still doesn’t get the credit she deserves.

She wasn't being phased out left eye had all the creative ideas. You realize through all the drama she was never "kicked" out its because she held a lot of weight in the group. I think what happened is the second album took a shift in sound due to her legal troubles she wasn't as present and the record label picked up on that success so they continued it into the fanmail era of course she wasn't having that she's a rapper but also a gemini and begin speaking her mind that's when all hell start breaking loose but imagine a TLC with no left eye it wouldn't work too well. Unfortunately since her passing they haven't really been the same creatively and it shows the hole that she left behind unable to be filled by anyone else

Agreed. After the house fire, the label was phasing her out because in their mind she was liability. That’s why she was on 4-5 songs after the first album.

Silly Ho was initially the first single but then reduced to promo single when No Scrubs was chosen to be the first official single

@@worldztune852it’s alright was suppose to be the first single then they went with no scrubs…and it’s alright wasn’t even included on fanmail so it’s just a unreleased song..but I’m glad they went with no scrub because that became one of there biggest hit…it’s alright didn’t have the same appeal like no scrub did….
