I always believe that there is no accidental NBA champion under the playoffs format - you need to beat a team 4 times and repeat it another 3 times. The eventual champion fully deserves the win....in most years the champions come from at least the 3rd seed in their conference (which means, doing well in regular season as well). The only outliers are the 1969 Boston Celtics (4th seed, 48-34 record) and the 1995 Houston Rockets (6th seed, 47-35 record). This year's Mavericks (5th seed, 50-32) could be the next outlier, but Boston is the favourite.
