The cinematic source material of this newly in 1955 produced landscape film by the West-German Federal Ministry for Displaced Persons, Refugees and War Victims about Elbing [Elbląg] and its hinterland goes back to the 1930s (c.1937). On display are, among others, the Granary Island, the fish market, the Nikolai Church, the Narrow Alley, the half-timbered façade of the former old people's home, exhibits of the local museum, the boat lifts (so-called Inclined Planes) of the Elbląg Canal [Kanał Elbląski] and the rural region of Elbing with impressions of the village Streckfuß [Tropy Elbląskie].
After 1949 there existed several versions of this historical film material under different titles in West Germany. The version shown here is accompanied by a one-sided conversation of a fictive, former fisherman from Elbing, initiated by a little acting scene.
Cameraman of the cinematic Elbing impressions was Paul Karl Lieberenz (* Feb. 13th, 1893 † Aug. 31st, 1954) who also worked as a writer and documentary producer. Director was Gerhard Grindel (Dec. 08th, 1902 † Aug. 07th,1965).

Das filmische Quellenmaterial dieses 1955 vom Bundesministerium für Vertriebene, Flüchtlinge und Kriegsgeschädigte neu produzierten Landschaftsfilms über Elbing [Elbląg] und sein Hinterland reicht zurück in die 1930er Jahre (ca. 1937). Zu sehen sind u.a. die Speicherinsel, der Fischmarkt, die Nikolai-Kirche, die Enge Gasse, die Fachwerkfassade des damaligen Seniorenheims, Exponate des Heimatmuseums, die Schiffshebewerke (sog. Geneigte Ebenen) des Oberländischen Kanals [Kanał Elbląski] und das bäuerliche Umland Elbings mit Impressionen des Dorfes Streckfuß [Tropy Elbląskie].
Nach 1949 existierten in West-Deutschland gleich mehrere Fassungen dieses historischen Filmmaterials unter verschiedenen Titeln. Die hier gezeigte Version wird aus dem Off begleitet von dem einseitigen Zwiegespräch eines fiktiven, ehemaligen Fischers aus Elbing, eingeleitet durch eine kurze Spielszene.
Kameramann der filmischen Elbing-Impressionen war Paul Karl Lieberenz (* Feb. 13th, 1893 † Aug. 31st, 1954) der auch als Autor und Dokumentarfilmproduzent tätig war. Regie führte Gerhard Grindel (Dec. 08th, 1902 Berlin † Aug. 07th,1965).
