Damascus made from Razor Blades

I make a Canister Damascus blade made from razorblades and 1090 powdered steel. Forging this by hand took some time but this knife build ended up being great. Knife making is something I am trying to get better at, and I am going to make more projects like this.
If you enjoyed please share, like and comment. I will be posting more Vids like this.

Why did you weld the handle to the knife. This move drops the durability of the blade. This blade is only used for cooking purposes.

Check out schurap. Dude has the best videos of Damascus. He even made a knife with dolphins in as the Damascus design

I don’t think he knows how strong welds can be

@user-pr6fu1zn5p yeah they're extremely strong if done correctly. It's how skyscrapers are built so I'm sure it will be fine for a knife 😅

You're right, of course. I always prefer the tang to be forged from the blade steel. He didn't actually forge to shape. This is more like a canister. "What if"?

Nice work, let’s just say “modern Damascus “ as traditional comes from crucible steel billets

For some reason, I find this super interesting. You have an amazing skill. Is that sugar your sprinkling on the metal? Anyway, badass. Stay safe.🙏🇺🇲🙏🇺🇲

It’s borax, helps protects the metal during the forging stage

I don't really know much about smithing but I enjoy watching these😊. I have a question tho, if during the process of hammering it a crack forms do you have to restart it?

It's borax to merge to steel together

love to see someone go to a Flea Market or yard sale and buy old damaged knives " like pocket knives" and then use them to forge a new blade. It be neat to see how the different steels end up together .

The major problem with that is the thinness and the fact that most are stainless that you will find. Plus once you take into account the taper both distal and with bevels ground into the blades you will be using a lot of the powdered steel filler as compared to these razor blades. Many smiths with do a “frankenmascus”out of off cuts of different steels/different billet offcuts of Damascus. It can be done but likely won’t be worth it to try work=\=output in this case. But for shits and giggles you might be able to convince somebody.

That’s pretty cool. Especially for the fact that your tools were fighting you the whole way. Takes determination to do that kind of work with a dead anvil and grinders that slow down every time touch them. Good job man!

What is the dust you put in with the razor blades?? And was that borax that you sprinkled on after reheating it
@shadowcbell
@shadowcbell 7 месяцев назад
I think the dust is powered metal probably same material as the razors Probably so it gets an even fill and melt
@BladeLuxeTV

Yes, powdered steel, 1090. The borax acts as a flux to protect the metal in forging stage

Metal powder of a different alloy than the razors to create the light and dark pattern seen later after the blade is etched. The white powder is probably a Borax powder to act as a flux, keeping impurities and oxidizing material out of the blade billet during the forge welding process of heating and hammering the layers into one piece of metal.
