What a lot of people overseas, do not realize, he will be missed here in America as well. We never knew who he really was, we just knew he was that guy who played the chick named Dame Edna.😂😂😂 He did one tv show as a guest, and he had us! He was so hysterical that they actually had to have like “concert” interviews shows in theaters for him before he left because there was so many people who wanted to go see him, when he came over to do his Dame Edna skit on the talk show. We just fell in love with the Dame Edna character and we wished he came over more! I actually read that he didn’t think we would like seeing him too much and he was so wrong! He came back a couple of times and it was a hoot seeing him make some of our celebrities feel on the hot seat of embarrassment or ridicule! I will miss him and I wish we could have seen so much more of him.😢😢
@lovinglanguages1 You may have just caught on to Dame Edna a little late. She was very popular in the United States for years, and a huge hit in Ally McBeal.
Dame Edna had a talk show for a short time during the 90's in the US. It was called Dame Edna's Hollywood'. I ADORE this man's character. Dame Edna is the funniest comedian I have ever seen, bar none. I saw her live at least 5 times, and he was so brilliant, so improvisational, and just had the audience wetting their pants! I saw his Farewell Tour. I was sad that that would be the last time I'd see her live.
If you watch Barry Humphries's interviews he talks about the drain that increased upon doing those shows. May be it was that as to why he didn't tour as much as we would have enjoyed. It's tough of course, thinking of more material from gaining local knowledge as I'm sure we can understand. The energies involved? He was though, intending to tour again after his hip surgery. Alas, something went wrong. We don't know what yet. It is a blow. Such a talent. One always laughed. He was 89.
Thank you for posting this again Alan, I laughed so hard at the 'lurid basic instinct' jab at Dame Edna, not many people can get one over on her but even she thought that one was funny.. 😂😂 R.I.P to an Aussie Legend ❤
He came over from Australia and lived in England for 40 years. Who became famous. Look on RU-vid some of his interviews on British television. Michael Graham Norton show. Art Parkinson. And the royal variety performance where you went into the royal box with Prince Charles we will all miss him so much. ♥️
"...David ...and Elton are friends of mine and I really don't want to say rude things on them even on a show that not many people watch" O.M.G. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Classic
Way to short, & typical commercial tv, they didn't know what they've got until he's gone. Any host that failed to clear the decks for Barry, couldn't do him justice........
Barry probably belonged to some group of celestial entertainers, comics, Gandharvas who incarnate to take pleasure in brightening our lives. He lives on in our constant laughter even after he completed his mission. And presently enjoys watching us watching him. Anyway, That's a Hindu take on things.
I don’t think I’ll ever laugh again that much, I lost a lot when Dame Edna passed , I’ll be a possum forever, RIP Dame Edna and thank you for bringing such joy into my life….. my sympathies to our cousins in Australia !
How brilliant was dame Edna, Australia has lost its greatest talent, and so has the rest of the world. RIP dame Edna, les, and your very clever self Barry 🙏🙏❤️❤️
R. I. P. Another legendary comedian has left this crazy world. I'm made aware of him as I was living in Down Under, watching some of his stints and shows (streaming services)and since then, love him. Unfortunately in Austria, where I grew up, nobody knew him characterizing Dame Edna or Les, with his big cigar his big stick between his legs and his sometimes fluidful gasbagging 😁😁😁. I feel very much fortunate to have seen him many, many times in Australia on TV, through RU-vid or through other channels streamed from the UK. The British and Australian humour is so much different and unique and he always made me laugh to the brinks of collapsing. He was one of a kind in his own sense of humour. He will be dearly missed by so many, which knew him personally, saw him on television or, in one of his many live shows around the English speaking world. My dearest condolences to his family. 😒😒😒😢😢😢
it's not freedom of speech... it's ignorance.... lack of understanding science and common knowledge.... bigotry and discrimination is exactly that....... believe what you want if you have facts.... but none of you fucking do......
Look at the British TV interviewers. There are so funny and so many to see in the 40 years she lived in London.. she was Australian. But she was also one of ours. In the UK 🇬🇧♥️🇦🇺
Damn. Barry Humphreys, Dame Edna ("HELLO, POSSUMS!!!"), Les (Salacious wink), chats on the porch rocker... Thank you. Anything more is gilding the lily, as there are literally no words for the happiness brought to us :)
i was great friends with Barry years ago on MySpace we had many long deep conversations he was the most brilliant man i ever knew. many people are saying he was transphobic and it simply isnt true i and my wife do agree with what he said about Kaitlyn Jenner they simply arent a representation of the trans community for reasons lgbtq understand completely. Barry was very much a brilliant hilarious cis man who loved his wife and cis women and he was a wonderful friend to the lgbtq community although he wasnt lgbtq himself
My mum was actually Madge Allsopp,,,( Marge but everyone called her Madge ) my dad reached out to Barry and he wrote us a lovely letter and a signed photo 📸 a true gentleman,,,,,
What a shame Barry died before the Kings Corrination 🤴 😔. He would have been invited for sure, and Dame Edna certainly would have had something to say about that...for sure. 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Such an inspiration and always imaginative, hilarious, and stunningly gorgeous. RIP Alan, I would love to meet you one day. From an old Queen in California. Cheers
My Husband has never seen me naked and has never expressed any desire ..... Thank You Dame Edna Everage you wit and insight are guiding words for us all. Sleep Well. Gladdy.
There was an infamous Parkinson interview with Olivia Newton John, Gloria Swanson... and Dame Edna WHEN after it was over Gloria was known to have asked _'' who was that woman?''_ Unfortunately not available online .....becoz of likely litigation.
@@DonoVideoProductions Lets just say she didn't see the humour. ....especially when Gloria liked to be the centre of attention. The interview is available online ...with Parkinson and ONJ with Gloria ..just not the segment with Swanson and Edna.
@@planestrainsdogsncars4336 Ah. Well, Edna's stock and trade was a parody of the very ego Gloria demonstrated. I still don't understand litigation, though.
@@DonoVideoProductions What other reason for it being not online?..Like when Kenny Everett did the Streisand huge nose skit knocking over the sets ..''if you ever show that in the States I will sue''.
This was really lovely to watch. Barry Humphries must have thought who the hell is this young lad who's show I've been asked to appear on. Dame Edna could have completely taken over here and left him in the shade but she didn't. Barry was so fair and let Alan say his bits. Really nice xx
He was born the same year as my mother and they grew up in the same suburb. People don't realise how true he stayed to the people from that era he was sending up.
Love the way all the possletts love the house wife turned mega star after the comet has passed , maybe another will be born sideways someday , this is my hope .
