I was there. My mom took me when I was a teenager. The concert was great, and I remember it all these years later. That night when I got home I was enwrapped in the glory of God like I have hardly ever been in my lifetime.
I have this concert on video from when it was broadcast on PBS, as well as the commercial CD. To clarify a couple of things: Kiri isn't a Mormon...the MTC does concerts with well-known soloists (Von Stade and Verrett are a couple of others I've seen) and the concert is not in the actual "tabernacle" but in a hall next to it. Also, this isn't an "easter" concert...the piece is the "Easter Hymn"...the concert was performed on Feb 23 & 24, 1989.
Kiri is from NZ and for years, the MTC has had special guest performers for various special events. At one point I had this "song" on her and their cd. Loved it then still love it. Love listening to it at or near Easter, especially, such beautiful music from Mascagni.
CLARIFICATION: TRUE: Kiri is NOT LDS (Mormon). TRUE: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir does present concerts particularly during Easter and Christmas . WRONG: This concert WAS presented at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, UT. WRONG: This WAS an Easter Concert independent of the date of the actual concert.
