We got send back home that morning having worked previous days on the ship under that crane,i didnt even notice it was gone:) until safety officer turned us back from the gate telling us it fell down 3 hours before
Damned !! For decades this hughe crane was big part of the horizon in the surroundings...A kind of 'statue'. A statue that reminded the local older men of "The Good Old Days" when the Wilton-Fijenoord Shipyard gave work for, at its highest peak, almost 10.000 people. Shipbuilding was culture in The Netherlands between 1948 until 1987. Then the Taiwanese and Chinese warffs came up for lower prices to build ships. Just as the submarine's were made to go (..and take..) dowh in Januari 2018 this statuelike Crane went down. A pitty ánd lots of damage. Lucky and okay that no-one was hurt or get killed.
