Hello there, welcome to my 1st EP but the 2nd solo work I’ve ever put up in the Internet. This is just some liner notes to explain the album’s process, this liner notes for starters, are influenced by The Beatles first few albums where there’s notes in it. This EP/album, whatever you would like to call it took a few weeks to record. Let’s start with the first track off Side 1.
Side 1 (a) Prologue
An interesting start to an EP, I love experimenting with stuff. Sometimes it may sound bad or good but it’s interesting enough to expect. What I used in this experimental track, is a radio special in 1977 about Klaatu who were rumored to be The Beatles, in this track they are talking about The Beatles but it’s actually about Klaatu, overlaying with As We Go Along, Love Is Falling In Love Again and Lost and Found (reversed) which sounded nice.
Side 1, (b) She’s My Lady
-A very Rolling Stones-esque song, opening riff directly inspired by The Stones. This song has lyrics, but like the 1st album, I still do not have the guts to sing. But the lyrics of this song, is influenced by the songwriting of the supergroup The Travelling Wilburys, and the title of the song is a direct reference to their hit She’s My Baby. The opening riff of She’s My Lady is an old idea which I’ve been working on for a few months, but never knew what to continue, but eventually did.
Side 1, (c) Lost and Found
- A song I worked in only just a few days, it was a pretty special song to me, as I want recorded it especially for my 1st live gig in April 2022 in front of a café, for a friend’s birthday party. I wanted the song to be as atmospheric like a bar, full of reverb with relaxing riffs. There’s also lyrics written for this song, talking about lost, wasted time and it’s about appreciating time. I tried to premiere this song in the party, but it miserably failed cause I forgot the melody at the first line. I told the audience I was gonna get back to it, but I never did.
Side 2, (a) Vinyl Intermission (or as I would call it, Music Needle)
- This little intermission used songs from albums I love, starting from Donny and Marie Osmond’s Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing, Glenn Frey’s New Love, David Gates’ California Lady, The Shadows’ Don’t Throw It All Away, Billy Joel’s Honesty, The Monkees’ Circle Sky and Barry Manilow’s I Was A Fool (To Let You Go). They’re all edited into a little experimental track, of a man who takes up and lower the arm to play a side of a record, and they’re the songs in the it.
Side 2, (b) Love Is Falling In Love Again (cover)
Love Is Falling In Love Again is my favorite Shadows song. The Shadows are an instrumental (and sometimes vocal) band. This song was recorded during the 1975 Specs Appeal sessions, but they never released it until 1992, and it is hardly known by the Shadows fanbase. All guitars, solos in this song is played by me. Vocals by Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and John Farrar extracted from the original track. Drums and bass played by Brian Bennett and Alan Tarney respectively. Brilliant track.
Side 2 (c) As We Go Along (cover)
The movie and album Head changed my life. The elements of the album Head can be found referenced throughout the EP, mostly in the Prologue. Circle Sky, Porpoise Song, Can You Dig It?, Do I Have To Do This All Again? Are great songs, but nothing stands out like As We Go Along. It’s just simply my favorite of them all. This track I made is absolutely brilliant, I listened to this demo I made continuously in a mall for 2 hours straight, self obsessing. All guitars played by me, and a little help at the end from famous songwriters and session musicians, Ken Bloom, Ry Cooder, Carole King, Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, Tony McCashen, and Neil Young. The closing of this album pays tribute to Michael Nesmith of the Monkees, who passed away in 2021 and sent me into shock. He’s the reason I started making demos, after listening to “Nine Times Blue”, and he’s the reason I chose Gretsch as my 1st actual guitar, still no regrets.
Well, that’s all for the liner notes, enjoy the EP and tell me which is your favorite track on the EP and comment it down below and let me know, and psst… more of these are coming soon, so stay tuned.
