Brilliant. They were like an Irish version of Fleetwood Mac, the sophisticated compositions and passionate delivery, not to mention the smoking tension between two band members working through a toxic relationship.

I've always thought that Damien and his group are a mix between Jeff Buckley (heartbreaking and powerful lyrics, songs' structure, vocals, sophisticated metaphors) and the modern british folk music scene like Seth Lakeman's first albums (for instrumentation and atmosphere - if you do not know Lakeman check it out, terribly underrated!)
I feel this is the best version of this song to the amount of tension that builds up through out the whole song and the emotion in the ending “she’s still too young” bit plus an amazing drumming drummer

The last song I listened to with my former wife before she died... she decided to leave me, and drowned in a kayaking accident a few weeks later. Haunted by this song, but love it too.
@@josephc.3192 difficult question without a clear answer... but her death was far more devastating that our split, and the split was bad. I think it was a mixture of guilt for playing a part in setting in motion those final choices, and the finality of death that meant we’d never get to clear the air and say all of the things that go unsaid in a split. It’ll be 15 years this summer, and my life has gone on and I am incredibly fortunate... but this song puts me right back in the seat of my Tahoe with her just before having dinner that last time.
If I'd lost Lisa Hannigan I'd crumble... but you get to an age when you need to let go of the dark to let in the light, else you're in danger of a waisted life.
