I can’t understand how people who claim to be Jeff Buckley’s fans say they hate this performance. This is a tribute. Honoring Jeff’s memory. As fans you should be happy your favorite artist is being remembered. Unfortunately I didn’t have the pleasure to meet Jeff in person but from what I saw in his interviews, he was the kind of person cool and humble enough to appreciate something like this. It’s just music after all. Tip of the hat to you Damon.
Anyone who has a problem with this can't be much of a Jeff fan. This was, hands down, the best Jeff cover I've ever heard. And that includes my covers of Jeff. Damon is stellar.
Literally when i first heard him in hadestown i thought he sounded like jeff buckley so much so that i just called him jeff buckley and here he is singing lover you should have come over... and i can now die happy
this was ... frightening My eyes well up watching these tributes - this one was crazy. He even wore a Jeff t shirt for perfection. Bet his ghost was there, hanging out.
I am a lifetime fan of Jeff and as a fan I am really blown away by this tribute... I really appreciate that singers like this make Jeff's music still alive and remembered. I loved his voice, how perfect it sounds and how much heart he put into singing like that... Just still can't believe how good it sounds.. I will always miss Jeff and his music and tributes like this fill a little bit that missing inside... Thank you for this incredible tribute to Jeff...
Having Seen Jeff Buckley Perform This Song A Couple of Times, Solo Live, I Have To Say This is an Amazingly Accurate Portrayal and is Eerily Uncanny to the Point of Being Frightening, as is The Physical Resemblance Between The Two Artists.
Keep coming back to this performance -- it's stupendous! I had the chance to meet Damon after a playing of Oklahoma. Where is the Jeff Buckley biopic with this guy
OH MY GOD! THAT WAS BRILLIANT! I was crying when he started singing the first version of the lyrics....and then this high note just blown me away ...😭💔👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
People are throwing around big name actors for the role of Jeff In a bio pic....this guy would be perfect. He has the looks and the talent it seems to pull it off. But i still would be a bit weary of a film about my favourite artist of all time. But i believe they should get an unknown actor to play him if they do decide to make one as not to turn it into a "hollywood" film.R.I.P JB.
@mattkimb1 because once in a rare blue moon. We lose someone, something...and it comforts others and even the performer to channel it so we can all experience the life flow through something, or someone beautiful. Such as Jeff, respect the talent it takes to EMULATE this beauty. I will never get the chance to see Jeff live or bask in his music and such but this is a nice substitute that even for a few seconds reminds me something raw and beautiful was allowed audience long enough to stun us...
@mattkimb1 It's called paying tribute. I can understand being original but I mean let's me honest, Buckley is untouchable. If anything, this kid did a great job paying tribute to someone who he obviously had great respect for as a musician. Enough so that he only wanted to do it the way the song was meant to be played. Don't like it? Want the song to be done in a "more original" way? Let's see you do one better... :/
@mattkimb1 I see your point. At the same time, I must admit, I was silently wanting him to sing it like Jeff -- hit those high notes & all. I'm watching with interest to see if I feel he could play Jeff well in the movie. So far, from what I've seen/heard, I say yes. This performance, plagiarism or not, helped me form that opinion. Also, I have to give the guy a break. It was a tribute concert after all. Damon likely gave what he was asked to give & what he felt from his heart simultaneously.
@chinoquezada Completely agree. Damon did an outstanding job with Last Goodbye, and his stage presence, his connection to the audience, his sense of humor, is quite similar to Jeff's.
great singer - close enough to make me forget it's not actually him... His own character shimmers through but there's nothing wrong with that...au contraire!!
@billyvassi I agree, he emulates Jeff very precisely. But that`s just a memory trick. You can teach parrots to memorize exact sequences of sound. I think it`s ironic and pretty sad that this is exactly what Jeff would have hated. Cheap imitation. You see it in modern pop culture now. Everyone`s jumping on someone else`s train. This rendition is just a sign that music needs another punk~like kick to start something fresh.
@mattkimb1 totally agree with you mate and i wanna share this personal opinion : why keep doing this? Shakerspeare with music and lyrics by Jeff? Theres no Sense just a bussiness idea of keep killing the soul and memory ... Why not compose your own music inpired by Jeff thats the best tribute that you can do i guess ... In that way his legacy wil be always alive in you. (Excuse my bad English :( )
Jeezus he even looks like him. He should do his own thing though, "tribute" bands/stars make me cringe, especially when you got the chops to sing this good, why waste it promoting someone else? If you idolize someone don't imitate them, take inspiration instead and do what they did, write original material
+Thom Buckley Cobain Don't tell me to chill, boy! I state what I state and say what I say this phony, stinks and so do you punk. He reminds of all those Madonna imitators trying to look and act the same, sorry try and try all you're gonna do is be a photograph to a painting.
+Matt Jones Tribute, this guy wants to be Jeff Buckley so bad it reminds me of all the so called tribute bands that want to look just like the Beatles. This guy could cover the songs and be done with it, but noooooo look at his hair the T-shirt the pants, the little wrist band. Jeff Buckley dressed and looked the way he does he wasn't trying to imitate anyone else. If you play a Miles Davis song, or Jimi Hendrix or Joni Mitchell you aint them no matter how hard to you try to mimic or tussel your hair or play their songs note for note. You're just going to fall so short. You'll go oh he sounds like Jeff Buckley but Buckley's talent and songs are not ones you can mimic and impress. You can't mimic Dylan. Stop with the tribute nonsense! Try being original and covering that way. Did Jeff cover Hallelujah like Leonard Cohen? The same song done completely different.
I really don't like this video ! You have a beautiful voice and you are clearly a fan of Jeff like me but this is definitely not like this, imitating this genious that you make a tribute to him ! So please stop that now ! You have sincerly a great voice but use it diferently ! (Ps: sorry for my bad english) RIP Jeff from France
RU-vid is full of singers covering singers, which is fine if they have an original way of delivering a song. But this is note for note plagiarism of Jeff`s live performance and irritates because in mimmicking every detail it`s closer to X-factor than any true artistic talent. If you going to steal a song, at least do your own version. This rendition just sounds like someone trying hard to sound like someone else. Even the t-shirt and the body movements are copied...seriously, what`s the point?
