Welcome back to Stick to Football with Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Jill Scott - the original show from the award-winning The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet.
With Ian away in St Lucia and Jill back in the studio, the panel kick off the show with the reaction to the first round of the Champions League knock-out stages, where holders Manchester City beat FC Copenhagen whilst Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich lose to Lazio.
Gary, Jamie, Roy and Jill discuss whether any team can anyone stop Pep’s City, whether the Champions League has gone stale or not and how next season’s rule change could be beneficial to Europe’s elite competition.
As Manchester United have approached Newcastle United’s director of football Dan Ashworth, the team talk about what changes he could bring to Old Trafford if he decides to move and how important the off-the-field staff have on a modern football club.
Lastly we end on our Super 6 segment, has Gary pulled further ahead of Roy and who will they predict in the latest round of fixtures?
We’re approaching one million subscribers, so please don’t forget to hit subscribe to never miss an episode!

One of the great thing about GN as a host is that he knows when to shut up and listen to others. The bloke doesnt mind not saying anything for a couple of mins, same during his overlap interviews. Great skill that not too many pundits/journos possess these days.

I agree with Jamie about the away goal taking some joy from these fixtures. Imagine how massive lazio's 1-0 vs bayern Munich would be if away goals still counted. It would mean that lazio could go to Allianz only needing to score 1. Without the away goal rule it feels like bayern will inevitably roll lazio over as they won't fear lazio getting an away goal. It would add so much more tension to the first legs of the round of 16. Something that's been somewhat stripped away by taking the away goal rule off

@@olliewalton361 also because the underdogs have a better chance with the away goal rule and uefa want the big teams in the last 8 because they want big draws not upsets. Carra saying this is Ten Hag's football is pretty disingenuous. I think Ten Hag couldn't fully implement his system in his 1st season because of De Gea, so he had to adapt it. This season, he has Onana, but then he lost his entire back 4 and holding midfield for the majority of the season ... He has tried to implement his style at times, but we were shipping goals, so again he has had to adjust. Obviously results and performances need to be better, but I've got faith performances will improve if he's given another 18 months.

I hate the fact that crosses are less frequent during games, the amount of times wingers choose not to cross and instead pass the ball around for it to come to nothing can be infuriating. How many times during the last 10 minutes when teams are chasing a goal do decide to cross and it WORKS! Decent crosses if not scored can also cause chaos for for opposing teams.

If you take any player out of their team and put them in another side they would be the heart and soul of the team and exciting to watch, foden, grealish, for me they are being held back by being in a squad where it’s only about position, never taking risks unless it’s almost guaranteed to deliver something. I think the fact that pep makes clubs well run might have something to do with success, this isn't Wrexham btw

I want him to start with a team and club that's in the lower leagues and see if he can bring them up. It's far easier to be successful when you have the financial backing to buy the top players.

Definitely agree with Carra in regards to the away goal rule. The CL has lost a lot of excitement since it’s been removed. Teams don’t need to go at it now, holding out for draws and the second leg. That away goal was crucial and flipped the game on its head.

The removal of the away goal has destroyed the champions league because the smaller teams have an even bigger disadvantage and its also made it less exciting.

Oh God, if Ashworth does an even passable job at United it's gonna be unbearable in the media isn't it...?

It's not that City's football is necessarily "boring", it's that there is ZERO jeopardy when they play. They control the game so much, you never believe the other team is going to get a purple patch. Even when City go down by a goal or two, which rarely ever happens, you never believe for one second that the other team can hang on.
