Well, said, and this in regard to an actor whose private life wasn't displayed as so many video-makers do today to their actors. (Think I have a list of those inaccuracies somewhere by now!). TEXAN, huh? Bet he'd have allot to say TODAY about China, Afghanistan, the Ukraine, Putin and the Fake Administration of Gangsters flopping around pretending they know anything about helping THEIR OWN PEOPLE ? What a great "character' he was-So now we see he was " Two Great Characters! " yes? RIP Dan ! I was sort of hoping that a commenter who knew Mr. Blocker personally, would come here, and I could ask if they KNEW, if the music agent " Don" Blocker -was related to Dan? His office was two doors down from "Hank" Mancini's" and he represented Dolly back when songwriters had to play their songs live for agents. (Long story short --ANYONE ?) Thanks, " Beauty is as Beauty Does" the song I sang live for DON Blocker the day I accidentally walked int Hank's office by mistake! Praying for Afghanistan and the Ukraine" "God Gave Them One More Day" I Ain't no Middleman" FredGold& LyndaFaye "LyndaFayeSmusic@gmail.com) and at Yahoo, if I get censored for using the word God too often?

Hoss was my favorite character from Bonanza, great actor. This was prophetic. HIs last episode was Season 13 Episode 26, aired April 2 1972, He passed away in May 13, 1972, the show ended after the following 14th year. He really was the heart and soul of that show. HIs intelligence was often hidden underneath the loveable Hoss's surface, but it always came out in these interviews. He was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean war, serving as an infantry sergeant, Most people think or assume he died of a heart attack. He had gallbladder surgery, which I believe was deemed successful, went home but developed a blood clot in his lung, which caused his death. Very sad end to a wonderful life.

Thank you for the info. I didn't know he was a Korean war veteran. I sort of remember watching Bonanza growing up and remember the Cartwright's. I only learned that Dan Blocker died at such a young age just recently. It's so sad because things in his life seemed to be going good and a year or so later he would die from complications from surgery. It goes to show you never know when you're last day will be.

He said each year on the anniversary of his dad's death (May 13) Michael Landon would travel alone to Dan's burial site at Woodmen Cemetery in DeKalb, Texas to leave flowers and say a prayer over Dan's grave. @@rayjr62 Fascinating - Thank you for this information! I am awed by how many actors in decades past had another career, possibility that showed strength of character, intelligence, patriotism, and more. Many of today's actors - Legends in their own minds - are one-trick ponies who barely have high school educations, and liberal-to-socialists views. No doubt a HUGE factor that I watch considerably more movies and TV series from years past over the PC garbage of today! :-)

Was an interesting interview. He demonstrated that he was a highly educated person. He had his M.A. degree & dropped out of the Ph.D program to pursue acting. It would be interesting to speculate where he would have ended up if he had lived. He had been a teacher, was interested in politics, & was a good actor. Would he have gone back to teaching? Would he have entered politics like Ronald Reagan or Sonny Bono? Would he have continued acting? One can only wonder.

I knew that Lorne Greene, Parnell Roberts, and Dan Blocker all wore toupees on Bonanza, but I had never seen Dan Blocker without his hairpiece. He is almost unrecognizable. But the voice is pure "Hoss"!

EXTREMELY sad for a man who's "acting life" really had just begun ...I wondered if that COLLEGE DEGREE was WORK -when a man has a family to support AND a full-time-JOB ANYWHERE... IT'S LOTS OF STRESS. Seems to me it's the ARROGANT HOSTS that elicit the inarticulate appropriateness of "today's" interview shows. They're moreover about the hosts needing a screen test sample to show , than the actors they're interviewing ? I think he had "allot more under his belt" w/ more cleverness "up his sleeve" than he had time to express ? such as Michael Landon "was" or "became" the Little House on the Prarie?" DAN WAS the "gentle heart character " that WAS " Bonanza." I used to love to make up titles back then (and still , ha) and thought a whole show should have been devoted TO Dan Blocker, and title it " Gentle Heart?" Gee , maybe I'll copyright that tonight.(.Sounds like 'a song comin' ON" HERE yes ?) Well, said, and this in regard to an actor whose private life wasn't displayed as so many video-makers do today to their actors. (Long story short --ANYONE ?) Thanks, " Beauty is as Beauty Does" the song I sang live for DON Blocker the day I accidentally walked into Hank's office by mistake! Praying for Afghanistan and the Ukraine" "God Gave Them One More Day" I Ain't no Middleman" FredGold& LyndaFaye "LyndaFayeSmusic@gmail.com) and at Yahoo, if I get censored for using the word God too often?

Have you seen the comment above BY LYNN WOOD ? Like to see a BOOK about this man from some who personally knew him; or at least a well-assembled video ....A VIDEO of some public domain footage connected with DAN BLOCKER'S MILITARY EXPERIENCE ?
