My favorite scene of all time was one where Bull was trying to think of something so he's walking the hall, then he stands next to the elevator, under the indicator light. Suddenly he looks like he thinks of something just as the elevator arrives the bell rings and the light above his head lights up, the perfect sight gag of someone suddenly getting an idea. When I watched that I laughed so hard I missed most of the rest of the episode.

I loved this segment of the first episode. It did many things for me. It reminded me of how great the original series was. It showed me that the new cast and crew have done the work to honor the old series, while finding their own voices. It also reminded me of how good an actor Larroquette really is. That, in addition to having incredible comic timing, he is capable of reaching deep within himself to give us shining moments of GREAT DRAMATIC acting as well. In that short speech he gave to the janitor, he showed us the real Dan Fielding. A man who grew in character, met the love of his life, and lost her to cancer and, as he says, closed off the heart to avoid pain. But, a man, who, all joking aside, was a far more generous man than he would let on. I hope this series keeps following this path. If it does, it may just be as successful as the original was.

its a shame that most of the original cast of Night Court has passed on. Harry Anderson as Harry Stone, Markie Post as Christine Sullivan, Charles Robinson as Mac. As well as Selma and Flo who died during the run. Selma died after Season 2 and Flo died after Season 3. At least Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield are still around but they haven't reprise their roles as Bull and Roz yet. Out of the entire original cast, only John Laroquette returned as Dan Fielding. I hope Bull returns, he's funny. And Roz is one badass bailiff.

I’m sure that was considered. I can imagine several reasons why they didn’t run down that path due to the changing times. I think that juxtaposition would have worked even now though. When Night Court originally aired it was a very different time. Cancel culture would have never allowed us to watch any of the old shows as they were then, now. They probably sat down with “Focus Groups” and decided that the current version would lead to offending less people and yield better ratings. That’s how the world is trending. The world is forgetting how to take a joke. Cancel culture is making us afraid to tell jokes too.

@@chriskay1449 that was my initial thought, since the office still seems to have Harry's stuff in it. @johndybala8580
@johndybala8580 Год назад
@5thcellar I have actually pointed out the original show's "wokeness" - especially as one of the few 80s shows to regularly touch on race relations, interracial marriage, the justice system's reluctance to temper justice with mercy, ageism, homelessness (remember Phil?) ... you get the idea. Even with all that pointed out, so many refuse to see it
@5th_cellar
@5th_cellar Год назад
@@johndybala8580 What’s most ironic is that so many of them complained before this one started “you can’t have Dan in a PC world.” Oh, you mean Dan Fielding? The guy who had episodes around accepting gay people and that his childhood manly man friend was an overcompensating trans woman? That Dan?

The first season of the original Night Court wasn't that great in it's first season, it did have it's moments as the characters were being fleshed out. The second season with Ellen Foley as Billie began to see Night Court find it's classic footing. I think this show will do the same even in the modern age of streaming and social media opinions. It is obvious they are setting up Dan for some deep moments and I think, like before he will again be the break-out character. There are a lot of great story telling moments coming once the show gets it's footing.

Such a great, and poignant scene. When you’re watching it- and if you’re a fan of the old show-it’s hard to believe that THIS is Dan Fielding😁 But Larroquette, in this scene, I don’t think he’s acting. It seems to me that what Dan is saying here, John actually feels in real life. And it calls back that magnificent scene after the kid got shot, and Harry wants to quit and just play pool, and Dan talks him back to the bench. John Larroquette deserved every Emmy he got as Fielding, and if he hadn’t withdrawn his name for consideration he would have run the table as long as Night Court was on air.
