Dan knew in his heart yhat there id no way he could have given anything even close to the visually dynamic presentation that Stone Jackson and "The Sorels" laid down on stage in that film. Heck, Walter Hill didn't even use Dan's recorded version on the film soundtrack. He had another fellow add some some "pizzaz" to the song. Check out how Dan looked singing the song on Soul Train. Not exactly scintilating. But, heu, he wrote the song, recorded it, and got paid for letting Hill put it in SOF.

Ah yes the visualization of music. Personally, we really need to stop being so superficial that how an artists looks alters our view of their talent. What I see today is not very inspiring.
