I do love my Hype 4. Grabbed the white model. It’s become my go-to allrounder. The only issue I had with the 10 was it came a little too close to the Monarch MK3 in price point, but I completely agree with your take here. This also why it’s so important to discuss these sets outside of graphs. The 2, 4, and 10 graph similarly, but there is perceivable differences here and it’s not just nuance. Appreciate seeing you back and in great form!
Glad to see you back doing your thing in this format. Your sound demo videos are great but your reviews are amazing. I know life gets busy and time is so hard to manage with life priorities. With that said You have been missed. I absolutely love your approach to the hobby and could not be happier to see the last couple review videos. Thank you sir
Hype 4! Best Buy for sure. Prestige Ltd is leagues ahead as it should be. Monarch mk2 is lacking in rumble and bass impact compared to the Ltd. You must be treble sensitive 😂
Thanks for the great review. Personally, I'm very reluctant saving for a more expensive model after my Thieaudio Oracle died on me after one year. I cannot justify spending more than $200 on IEM after that, can't imagine having such experience with a kilobuck IEM.
The female vocal sounds so much better in the Prestige than Monarch M2. Monarch M2 is so bright and thin. Prestige has a more consistent tone throughout the frequency range, and sounds slightly warmer which is good.
glad youre back! you should try the ZIIGAAT Doscinco and Pula PA02. both have really good graphs, similar to Fudu but without peaks, at least on graph. Keep up the good stuff.
Actually, I tried the Pula PA02. I found it average, or even slightly below average - even for the price. It is much better to settle for something in the 100 dollar range or stretch up to above 200 dollars. The Bqeyz Wind eats it for breakfast, as well as the Chopin.
@@phetmoz Thats great, i ordered one on Ali but got lost in transit so i got a full refund, now that i read more and more ipinions that its not a great set i am greatful that it got lost lol
YES! my favorite IEM reviewer back with a banger review of the hype series!! How do you feel about the xenns top against any of these? you once compared it as a "budget" monarch mk3.
So your preference is like 99% tonality and 1% technicalities? What are your percentages? Also Is the hype 10 more technical than the Hype 4 and is the hype 4 more technical than the Hype 2 (resolution and imaging and stage)?
Re bass: Prestige so much better subbass than Hype 10 or Mk II. Hype 4 more midbass than either. Basically, Mk II is showing its age with its bass driver. Would love to hear Mk III subbass as compared to the others.
Salnotes Zero has one of the best tunings iam always suprised how good it sounds sometimes i prefer it over Hype 2 because its more simple and good enough. Dan your are the man so i dont need to buy hype 4 iam very satisfied with hype 2 its perfect and you drift away in the music hear more stuff than normally very natural sound Not typical iem sound its Something difffrent.
Well you finally put out another review, about Dan time! I know you kept mentioning the differences in the treble, but what I heard was how the bass came through and affected the treble. But that's just me. I did listen to it through my stereo speakers and the differences were subtle to me but they were there. (could be that the speakers and the AV receiver are 30 years old)
Welcome back 😊 I e taken a break from the iem game ..been working on my headphone stack ( rebuilding it really) and yes, the IEM’s in my stable have never sounded better with a ( IMHO) opinion fabulously improved source chain. Take care 🥃
Amazing video as always. This is a great critical take on the Hype series aside from all the OVERHype that is currently out there with this series. Very much hoping for a Thieaudio Divinity video at some point in the future if possible. Thank you so much Dan!
Listening on oracle im liking the hype 10 those vocals on dream theater so nice specifically the clarity on the 10 is nice, there is some veil on the hype 2 but i wouldnt turn it away O.O the prestige ltd wow i think ill just stick to my oracle so far its the only one that feels like the iems disappear and im left immersed in the sound, i can tell the monarch mmk2 has that vibe too as the vocals slide right into place.
Buying a high end IEM, I would get a Mest II, or Monarch MK II, or Fat Freq Maestro. I have heard what you have reviewed, your sound demos, on my Sennheiser HD 560S which are bang for buck kings. thanks for the excellent content. (I see links, are those Polk audio monitors with your PC rig?)
Interesting that you prefer the less excited high end of the hype 2. Interesting because the Mest mk2 is your top pick on your wall of joy, and the Mest has a very pronounced treble, which I actually prefer over most IEMs specifically the Monarch mk3. I’d love to hear the Hype 10 and Monarch MK3 comparisons. I just purchased the Monarach mk3, I initially had the Hype 10 on pre order but decided last minute to get the Monarch mk3, I felt that it was better suited to my taste.
@@jeffreybateman7314 Not at all. They are new to me still and I haven't had much time to find their strengths and weaknesses. I find the upper treble pleasant and neutral sounding. I do find them to be hot in 5-6K region which can sometimes effect the balance of the earphone but not fatiguing. Comparing to the UM Mest MKII the Monarch are a more balanced earphone, you could say natural. Where the Mest is more in your face. I find the best to have better bass and treble, a more V shaped tuning, with a wider soundstage, a very fun listen. The Monarch are also fun but more relaxed and present the music more as it was intended. I had time last night to play an entire album I'm very familiar with "Fear Inoculum" by TOOL. I was very impressed. This is a well mixed and mastered album with wonderful dynamics, so that alone is helps. What the Monarch do amazingly well is scale/depth. Where I find the mest to be a wider soundstage, the Monarch also have depth in the soundstage, front to back, It's hard to put into words. I was very impressed. They are a great earphone with a nice thick/full sound that play well with most music, maybe not as forgiving with poorly mixed or overcompressed music though. Hopefully you can forgive the length message, haha! To answer your question they are not too hot in the upper treble, 8K and above, at least not to my ears. Cheers!
@ryaneagon That's probably the nicest response that I've received on RU-vid. Thank you, extremely helpful. I like to walk the line in that 5-6k region, so it's not a deal breaker. For me, it's sibilance in male vocals that is a non-starter. If I listen to the first Arctic Monkeys album (when Alex Turner had a shrill voice) on sets like my P8, it's unbearable, even with EQ. If I listen to Tool or Radiohead, any band with excellent mixing, no issues. I do, however, listen to a lot of classic rock, and I'm a little wary that MKIII will reveal those poorly recorded tracks. I also understand that no IEM will do everything well, but I must say that I have several that are incredible for Trip Hop, EDM, and female vocals. Those sets are an easy find. Guess I'm hoping the MKIII can be versatile enough to cover a range of genres. This all began for me when my Shure 846 died last year. I probably never knew good tuning, so forgive my ignorance. 😆 Thx so much!
@@jeffreybateman7314 of course. I also stated my iem journey with the 846se. If you have the money the Monarch is a very well done earphone. It’s fun and engaging without being overwhelming in bass or treble. And most definitely a huge leap in performance and listenability over the Shure 846se. I would go to say the Monarch does almost everything well and somethings excellent. The Monarch is also a large iem. I don’t have issues with fit, actually it fits me nearly the same way my custom mest does, the monarch is contoured in its shell design to the outer part of the ear (tragus, intertragal notch, and antitragus) Of course your mileage may very. Be sure to order from a vendor that allows returns to be safe. Good luck.
Hype 4 , i wanted to buy this ... Until i heard this demo and the metal track , so.. Yeah it's better then 10 , more natural and better resolving as a consequence, 10 sounds boomy in drums ,to my surprise , and peaky less organic treble, the 2 is just lesser league than 4 and 10 , so no competition there . So, 4 comes out as better buy overall in every way , yeah , kinda flawless victory !!!🤘 P.S : Listened through Thieaudio Clairvoyance , Thieaudio Prestige LTD and Mangird Xenns Top . P.s.p.s ; 10 even less natural then my Top , although they completely copied the tuning ... hmm .
Love to see you back. We need more videos Dan come on..... Can u review Kinera PhoenixCall? That set have something unique according to demo sound. if u already tried PhoenixCall what is your opinion?
Thank you for the video. Your channel has helped me to get some stuff I really find joy in! I plan on buying the Hype 2 and taking a hiatus from keeping up with new releases. I could save another $600 in a few months and get the Monarch MkII, but I have commitment issues with anything over $300, tbh. This hobby moves too quickly for me to justify a $1000 iem for my income level. I'd rather have 3-4 good iems that total $1000 because my ADHD brain will be more satisfied with variety and novelty. I have 5 iems ranging from $180-250 that satisfy my listening moods quite well, and the Hype 2 would be the icing on the cake because I know it's technically better than my other iems and seems to be an excellent allrounder. IMO, there is no "endgame" in this hobby. There will always be something better. I see it all the time on Reddit. Someone will get a $500-600 iem, enjoy it for a couple months, and then ask, "What's next?" It's a vicious cycle not many in the hobby seem to be talking about. Spending 60% of my monthly wage on a set that will be old news in a year for me is possible but not worth it. But everyone has a different tolerance of price. No shade to anyone, but I wanted to comment about the tunnel vision one can experience in this hobby when trying to keep up with releases. Also, thanks, Dan, for providing demos and compare & contrast vids so we can make wiser choices! 🙌👊
I am newer to the hobby and just found your channel! love your actual audio comparisons as they give a much better impression of the iem as opposed to someone babbling on about their own preferences with zero sound reference (just my opinion). I almost pee'd myself when I heard Dream Theatre ❤🔥. I would love to hear a comparison between the ZiiGaat Doscinco and the ZiiGaat Cincotres and then run them against the Hype 2 and Hype 4! Rumor has it that ZiiGaat is the OEM manufacturer for THIEAUDIO? Amazon currently has a $50 off coupon for the Hype 2 so its $249...should I just pull the trigger? Thanks in advance for your time and keep up the great reviews! PS: I currently own the ARTTI T10 and PULA PA02 for reference...
Excellent choice on Dream theater, pull me under hits all spectrums of sound. And it kicks ASS!! I'm digging the Hype2, for the money you are just getting an all round even device, Hype10 tooo expensive for what I hear
Welcome back!! I've been enjoying my Hype 2 thanks to your recommendation over the Cannon II. So Thank You for that. I've been seeing second hand Monarch Mk2's on eBay and feeling trigger happy to add to cart. But still too expensive for me ATM. Can I save up? Interesting question there Dan... I think the more appropriate question to ask is, can I not buy any sets in the meantime? Something to seriously consider I think. But a very addictive (and enjoyable) hobby for sure. Best wished to you and your family. Peace
Also, I would like there to be mangird tea 2 Are you messing around? Is this sound coming out of these headphones or is it an audio recording? They're really good.
The differnce is maginal a little bit better but not worth the money if you dont have much but if you have and want more exciting iem than go for hype 4
On the opening, on the every other beat that snare rim hit, or whatever it is, was more prominent on the Hype 4 than the Hype2. I also thought the Hype 4 has a hair more mid bass., which makes sense to balance the greater upper mid energy.. hard to tell b/c you'd have to have them absolutely volume matched to get that granular. So I guess you could say the Hype 4 is slightly more V than the Hype2. Now it makes me wonder how Resolve would like the Hype2 since he loved the Hype4.
Listening to the demos on a Kato, I hear some raspiness to the cymbal crashes and a bit too much edginess to bright electric guitars on the Zero that isn't present on the Hypes, but the Zero gets so close to the sound quality of the Hypes that it's genuinely impressive. I wonder how much the Zero 2 fixes those issues while still measuring up to the Hypes.
agree Salnotes Zero a great bargain. I preferred the Hype2 in this sample b/c the Zero uplifted the timbre of the male vocals unnaturally... effeminized them. Same way the Chopin does.
Hey Dan I actually really like both but I prefer the Hype 4. I own both btw I like the extra highs and i think it has a little more Soundstage. They are great for gaming imo. I also need to email you about potentially sending you stuff to review if you can't get them elsewhere. I have the Ziigaat Doscinco, and the Cincotres is otw.
@fuzailkhanazmi2135 not for me. It's not a huge difference the Hype 4 just sounded that little bit better to me the 2 seemed lacking to me in the high end. For context I also love the ew200 at its price and people complain about its highs as well.
@bestcocbaseswithlink5069 I think it sounds better but it is mostly because of soundstage and imaging. I haven't heard the cincotres yet I've been out of town working. I do like the Doscinco though. For me the Hype 4 is very close to my preference, it may not be to yours though.
Hi Dan, here's a new subscriber from Korea! Nice to see you. I've considered hype4 bcs black is so cool, sound is fun. But I noticed monarch mk2... Hype4 is not cool anymore! Bcs of you! 😂 But I can't spend money enough for monarch mk2 😢 too expensive. So I'll choose hype2 and enjoy it until I save money for monarch mk2. Thx for your review and I'll expect your new iem reviews next.
that hype 2 actually sounds god... but i like the hype 4 more than the hype 10.. similar low end as hype 2 and a lil bit of a treble elevation... hype 10 sounds a lil muffled and muddy for me.. i don't know... maybe it's just me and my wasted ears haha... and then i heard the prestige ltd... and uh oh... and then you just filled me up with that Monarch MK2... i think the MM2 Is a ll bit more on the Balanced side... and i like the warmth of that Prestige LTD more than the MM2.. maybe its because im an EDM lover... and after listening to MM2 and Prestige LTDs... i forgot about the Hype series hahaha... and i have a problem now... should i get the MM2 or save a lil bit more and buy UM MEST MK2.. i need a comparison :/... anyway.. Welcome back Dan.. we missed you.. Goated Review as always...
I see very little difference between the 2 and the 4, there is a little, but yeah is a little worth the price ? And then, the 4 with HM? Nonono, Sir. I can easily see with certain songs (Black Hole Sun/Soundgarden or Diamonds and Rust/Judas Priest) the cymbals will melt your brain away with the 4. The 10 does that much better imo. But then, the 10 is in a price class where I'd probably consider other stuff. Like the monarch II or III or the ..... MEST. Somebody had to bring it up. ;P P.S.: The Ziigaat Doscinco is on it's way (it's already in Paris, not so far away anymore, maybe monday) ... what I heard about it sounds REALLLLLY promising. :) SiriusB has a sound comparison ...
Have you heard the Chopin? I'm thinking it sounds better than the Hype 2 and hype 4. What do you think? I just hate I can't use it with fiio utws5 (is there a such thing as a 2 pin extender lol
Hello. I've been using the Truthear Zero (blue) for a week now, but it feels like it's missing something. My goal is to play games and listen to music. I like to listen to quality music while resting after being tired. . This is my first time using IEM headphones. I live in Turkey and the conditions here are a bit challenging, I don't think I can constantly try different brands and models. I want to evaluate it while the spring sales have started. Can you recommend me a nice model? My budget is maximum 400$. I just want to put on my headphones and have fun. I want to play games, listen to music and watch movies. Please help me on this issue, I have no idea.
Hey Dan, I just wanted to know. How do you produce the demos you make? Are you actually recording the audio from these IEMs or is it the same audio but EQ'd to each headphones sound? Just curious for my own point of reference. Thanks!
Pure recordings in my rig. You hear what I recorded. No EQ application whatsoever or any editing applied. Raw audio. 711 couplers, as they’re informally called.
don't think i have the hearing range for the 4 sizzle 😅 looks like it's around 15khz, i max out at ~13.5k 😔 edit: i am hearing more lower/mid treble on the hype 2, so for my hearing range the 4 is tamer believe it or not
I have the Hype 2, Wan'er, Chu, PR2, Tinhifi t3+ and Galileo. Hype 2 blasts all the others out of the water, not even close. I really appreciate the audio comparisons, but they can't be accurate. They're more like tuning differences and you miss the details, dynamics and so on. Welcome back Dan, missed you
I won't bitch, but I totally agree, skip the 4, 10 and prestige. The hype 2 is actually more listenable that 4, and maybe sometimes even 10. Either 2 or if one can afford it the Monarch 2. I wish I had the money. As for Zeros, thanks, I know I have look in the direction, even if it's a super budget IEM
funny, the Hype 4 is brighter than the Hype 10.. despite Hype 10 having more treble drivers. if you look at the graph, Hype 4 has a lot of energy from 14k - 17k ... several db more than Hype2 or Prestige. both the 2 and 10 are more relaxed. Hype 2 lacks on drums compared to 4 and 10. 10 does everything 5% better... but the price :(. OMG that Prestige has gobs of subbass, even though the graph does not show it, whereas Hype 4 more midbass. I think Hype 4's tuner pushed that 14k-17k too hard. Then had to push the midbass to try to balance it. Makes me wonder why Resolve liked the 4 so much... he doesn't like elevated trebles much. Hype 2 and Prestige graph very similarly, but the drivers perform so much better on the Prestige. More defined, more separated, more subbass. Only reason I'm not commenting on 10's graph is that I haven't seen it.
Hype 10 really doesn't blow me away the same way Hype 4 did to my ears compared to 2 Something's weird about the Hype 10 and I can't put my finger on it Now to find the Doscinco vs Hype 4 And I guess I still gotta try a MMk2
After demoing all the hype, hype 10 is just different. Hype 4 bass slams very well but the staging is extremely mediocre, 2D with average imaging, hype 10 is just better in general, bass punches well and deep and more immersive, treble also tamer without losing any technicalities. For those who says hype 4 is better for price/performance ratio, I say its just better for the price. Both sets r different.
