It's another day and I wanna talk about another song on the album.
This is a weird one, it's not a conventional piece of music, it's an old one and it never got 'finished'. I was trying to write parts to it and there was a whole theme in there around the things that we do, to do them for yourself and to walk proud and strong in that. It was directed at alcoholism and addiction.
Now I stand back from my experience of life and the interactions I've had with people and I think it says much much much more to me now. We do move together in life. The love we experience from people is the path to walk, but the alone part is the courage you act upon to walk that path. Or it could be if you're not gonna respect me in the way I respect myself, you're gonna have to also walk alone.
I think the meaning of this song will keep being renewed to me and it'll stick around for a long time.
The song did never get finished in the way I thought it would in the end. I had one refrain but it just has so much energy and emotion when I play it that I decided that it would be a shame to lose that raw piece of music I loved so much just because I thought it was incomplete.
The first time I played it was on the 5th of April at the Future Yard. I didn't know how to present the song in any form of structure, but whatever happened that night it clicked into place and I realised that one refrain was powerful and a highlight of the set. The song became what it is by me playing it on stage a bunch of times.
I'm a big fan of bluegrass and gospel music and I guess it fits quite heavily into that theme and sound. As does the rest of the album. Which I find pretty pleasing 🙂
