This really is an exquisite piece. This definitely comes through in those close up shots, the stainless slide and frame almost glow. I own two Dan Wesson's, and I haven't yet been able to convince myself to spend the money for the "next level". But I think that for the "just under custom" 1911, their value is impossible to beat
I went through a thousand rounds in each of my STI 1911's - just to break them in. It gets expensive Dan Wesson make incredible guns. Thank you for posting another great video
@@pinkiewerewolf I have both Dan Wessons and Kimber. I prefer my Dan Wesson 1911s, but my Kimber shot reliable and accurate they are normally great pistols.
Your boxer short anecdote, reminded me of active shooter training I took, back in 2005. An officer had a "wardrobe mishap", while clearing his stage. Ever the patrolman, who would train-as-he-fought...he shuffled forward, tactical trousers around his ankles, sans boxers (it was summertime in south Georgia), firing and bobbing, ever stalwart. While the FTO in charge, deemed it, "the actions of a true survivor", the department of course, has a laugh to this day...remembering the long shuffle, thru the halls of danger. Thank you for jogging that memory! I love your review, of this Valor. I had my eye on a more basic 1911...but I'm really impressed, by what I see here.
Icarryone, a superb review. I always go to you first for a certain review before anyone else. As a matter of fact, I have the Dan Wesson Valkyrie Commander 9mm in my cart at Grab A Gun. No more. This detailed review just convinced me to switch my order to the DW Valor (I own the Valor Blue full size 9 mm. A great 1911) V Bob Commander. A loyal subscriber. Beauitiful grips by the way.
I like your videos! You are definitely as in love with the 1911 as I am. That part about custom break-in tho... I need to respectfully differ. I have a Dan Wesson Specialist and LOVE IT! I watched this video (and really liked it) cause I am wanting a V-Bob. I also have 3 Les Baer Custom 1911s of various models. Those are "Hard Fit"; not simply tight. My experience with them has been flawless. I've ran 12,000 of hardball through the Baer's over the past year. Not one single failure of any type from shot 1 till today. The more they are shot the better they seem to perform. Accuracy hasn't degraded nor have they loosened up to any rattle. Reliability wise I think the whole hard fit/loose fit thing is myth. I've seen both mess up. I believe magazine quality and finish of the internals- extractor, feed ramp, barrel throat, etc. have the most contribution to reliability if using factory fresh ammo. That said, I only run Tripp Research mags. All that said... "Hard Fit" and "tight" aren't exactly the same imo. The absolute worst firearm I have EVER owned was a "tight" Kimber. I love the 1911; but I'd take a High Point over a Kimber. That gun was New and literally would not cycle 3 rounds at a time. I paid 1,000 for it and being new to 1911s I did not know it had a PLASTIC MSH! I felt like a chump. I don't care one bit about MiM parts. I think that is overblown too, but that gun almost ruined me on 1911s. I sent it back to Kimber 18 hours after getting it, then waited 32 long days to get it back! They had to actually "re-build" it.... well, after it came back I couldn't get $500 for it because I was honest about its reliability. So I kept it. I bought a book on what makes these guns really work. The first thing to go was the cheap mag which came with the gun. The next was a drenching in high quality lube. I started shooting it, and still shoot it every other month or so. It hasn't failed once since coming back. This past winter I broke down and installed an Ed Brown skip checkered MSH (tool steel). Now it looks pretty nice. No more plastic at least. Kimber has not made a favorable contribution to the reliability reputation of "nice" 1911s or "Hard Fit" 1911s. They simply crank the tolerances down and hope for the best as "tight" is supposedly equals Quality, another myth. "Hard Fit" is a build philosophy which came from bullseye shooters. A hand fit 1911 like these Dan Wessons is every bit as practically accurate as they come and extremely high quality. So depending upon perspective we may not differ whatsoever on our thought on builds. The Dan Wesson hits a great sweet spot on the quality meter! Thanks for the video again!
got my DW V-Bob last week. Mine is in .45 acp. I love it so much! had a Colt lightweight Command in 45 before, but I found the recoil to be more then I liked. the V-bob added weight makes it far more enjoyable to me. also just leaps and bounds better then the colt. very happy with my purchase and I appreciate your informative video/opinion to help make my decision.
Icarryone completely agree. The comparison was crazy different. my experience with 1911s up to that point was a colt commander, colt government series 80 and a Rock Island tactical. so I was very taken back.
I just picked up my first 1911. It was a Dan Wesson Specialist 9mm. I've had a Sig 220 for over a decade and wanted a top of the line Stainless pistol in 9mm that I could shoot alot that wouldn't wear me out. This pistol is phenomenal. The grips are a bit aggressive, but it is an amazing pistol that kicks light at the range. It is hard to put in words, but just hand cycling that slide is an experience in itself. The quality is amazing. Watching your video just makes me want another in a Vbob! First shooting out, I put 100 rounds through the pistol and my hands/forearms weren't the least bit tired.
Les Baer 1911’s have one of the tightest tolerances in the business. I can barely rack the slide back it’s so tight. I prefer the Dan Wesson 1911’s. Although tight, you can still cycle the slide with relative ease.
Beauty - thanks for the vid. This looks fantastic. The thin grips are perfect IMO. Had a Sig Sauer C-Bob in .45 years back with Crimson Trace, and ever since then, I've wanted a 9mm C-Bob.... too bad Ruger's new commander 9mm isn't a C-Bob.
Boy are we in agreement "ICarryOne" having break in cost for higher end guns and billed board effect. I just opt'd for the Dan Wesson Valor 9mm full size (w/2 -10 round mags). Should be getting it from the FFL soon. I have other 1911's 45 cal and love them. Since I reload (as you know) it is a whole lot cheaper shooting 9mm. Good vlog thanks.
Awesome video and beautiful pistol sir. I will be getting a DW soon. Can't decide on Vbob or specialist. May just get both and ask for forgiveness later😁
Just managed to pick one up for $1250 used. I had a Kobra carry that I sold and have been wanting a nice bobtail commander ever since. Nothing wrong with my kobra carry, but it needed more machine work to get the same value as the dan wesson vbob. I like that the dan wesson vbob has the 90 degree ledge rear sight for tactical racking of the slide and the barrel is flush cut and slightly recessed. I wish this model had the top of the slide serrated as that's the only other thing I like on a 1911 and dan wesson already does it on most of their other models. Overall, can't complain one bit considering the price to value. I paid $2100 used for my kobra carry and $1250 for my Dan wesson vbob. The Ed Brown's slide racks easier, but that's about the only difference. In every other way the machining on the Dan wesson is better than my ed brown. Especially the extractor and ejector fitment. I was hesitatant to buy a Dan Wesson as their name is not up there with Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk etc.. After being able to hold a few Dan Wesson's in hand at a local dealer and compare side by side against the other top name brands it was a no brainer to buy a Dan Wesson. I found their quality to be the same across different models that I looked at. That was the big deciding factor in going with Dan Wesson. Great video, keep it up!
I am enjoying watching your channel. Have you ever thought about a video on the Springfield Arms range Officer 1911 target pistol in 9mm or 45 ? I have both. Great value for the money.
Your reviews are awesome. I have a DW Valor bobtail in 45 in black. Out of my 17 handguns, it is my favorite. Most of my guns are HKs. I am going to buy a Valkyrie Commander in 45 next. Keep up the great work.
Icarryone Its the voters... thats how these lunatics get voted into office. Back in "my day" we'd have laughed at these candidates and that would have been it, they'd have shrunk away and never been an issue. these days, the PC crowds eats their BS like its chili on a frigid day. I see that it is spreading to other states, Oregon's Gov is attacking the 2nd these days.
Thank you. You said a week ago that this vid would be coming out soon--you're a man of your word. My compliments. Have you also tested the .45 variation of the V-Bob?
How has the bead-blast stainless finish held up for you? I'm looking at a Specialist right now, and struggling with the black vs stainless choice. Nicely done video.
What are your thoughts on the DW Valor Commander in 9mm? I am torn between that and the Guardian in 9. I have the VBob in .45 and really don't want another Vbob. Thanks.
I would get the Vbob in 9mm but since I have it in .45 and use it as my EDC I was wanting something a little different. I like all steel guns so the Valor Commander may be my choice. Great series of videos BTW
Just subbed. A great video and my VBob .45 will be arriving this week. Very well done. I noticed this is in 9mm. How do you like it compared to the same gun in .45? I shoot my Sig's in 9mm,. but prefer my 1911's in .45. Thanks.
I have a number of 1911's chambered in 45acp and like them all. When I ran across this 9mm VBob some time ago, the price was right and I just couldn't pass it up. It's been an outstanding shooter from day one.
I'm literally new on this, and only watching videos here fell in love with these DW's...I've never owned a firearm before and none of my family or close friends either. I dont have anybody relatively close to ask about all of this (and I have a lot of questions) I live in Texas, San Antonio to be specific...I recently obtained my license to carry and I need a gun now...I have visited 3 or 4 gun shops here in SA and none of them have a DW...is it that hard to find one??...please help..I know what I want: easy to conceal, 4.25in barrel,9mm I really like valors vbobs and the new guardian...where can I find one??????????
@@Icarryone 👍 ...I'll do that...I was trying to see one and hold it on my hands just for the feeling 😁, before buying one...but all of the gun shops here have mostly kimbers (a lot of them) Springfield armory..and some others...I really want to see a DW before ordering . Thanks for the advice ✌
The Guardian is a very popular DW model and hard to find. My advice to you is that when you find a Dan Wesson that you like, buy it. (You'll be glad you did!) I looked for almost a year before I found a .38 Super Guardian in a Cabela's Gun Library.
Harry Callahan coming from the bullseye background, les Baer are jokes. They try to achieve accuracy by making the gun way too tight instead of built correctly with precision. The result is a gun that shoots 3" at 50 yards for 500 rounds then either breaks or drastically loses accuracy. A properly built gun will keep its accuracy for thousands of rounds and wear evenly
Nice 1911. I agree with you. A person should not have to go through the break in period. They should do that at the factory. Or build it right in the first place.Great video thanks for sharing.
01:07 - a direct stab a Les Baer's "hard fit" build philosophy...which is a ROYAL pain in the ass when its not *just right*. My Monolith HW had to be sent back to LB twice for repeated malfs...and his guns hate his own factory mags. Never again...I'll go with Dan Wesson all day long, or pay the extra for Wilson Combat. Too bad DW is discontinuing the Valor.
Dan Wesson 1911's are considered to be a semi-custom - which means they at the very top tier of factory produced 1911's. From here, you move into the "custom" class of 1911's - which, for an additional price, can be further customized to suit the purchaser. Custom engraving, the utilization of exotic construction materials, and custom finishes all figure into that. Depending on your budget, the sky is the limit. The real "key" difference between the two is simply the price point.
Kimber 1911's are not hand fitted at the factory. And yes, Kimber's come with MIM parts. In spite of that, most people find them to be a pretty decent 1911.
Why would you want too? That particular loading is for use in military sub machine guns , such as the UZI & CZ Scorpion - and in specialty pistols like the Kareen MKII. Personally, I see no reason to take a chance on damaging an expensive handgun that was never designed to fire sub machine gun class ammo in the first place.
sweet video but can anyone help me remember something? Icarryone did a giveaway for a giftcard and a knife... does anyone remember the website that the giftcard was for? lost my phone that I had saved the website on
My records indicate that Steven Bush was the winner of the gift card. The website that hosted the giveaway was: ru-vid.com/show-UCxdqAUfSaIXSgBS5f0Jlx-w
