The reason negotiation are always hard for Dana white is because people back their way into title shots all the time. He verbally praises guys for stepping up all the time, but then somebody who backs out of fights steps over the guy with the “fighters mentality” to get a title shot.

One thing that could make the BMF title really special is if they let the fans vote on who fights for it. So, obviously whomever holds the belt is the BMF champion, but let the fans vote on the challenger by poll. I say the UFC presents 2-3 challengers and let the fans vote. That would be HUGE! It's would crush PPV's. It would reconnect fans to the fighters again. Plus whomever held the BMF title would be considered "The people's champion," (besides the all time, undefeated, biggest arms in the world champion, Chael Sonnen!) They could do catch weights so it's not just in one division, the options for making the BMF title completely unique could be a very big deal. 💪🏆✋

Leon Edwards is very underrated but I wouldn’t call him a star yet. Not many people know him outside hardcore MMA fans

The BMF could in theory jump everywhere. Say Masvidal loses it to Usman, Marty could take it to middleweight, lose it to guys like Till or Adesanya that could go to Light Heavyweight. Now imagine Jon Jones takes it. To Heavyweight for Stipe or Ngannou. Do it the otherway - Connor takes the BMF to lightweight, loses it to someone lik3 Holloway who takes it to featherweight. Im not saying these specific fighters would beat these specific fighters im just making the point that the BMF belt could jump all across divisions.

Now four guys with Gilbert Burns competing proper for the welter weight title. That division is proper stacked and the most entertaining weight division in UFC by a long way.

Usman vs Masvidal - Jorge has earned it for sure. No rematch after, because this division is loaded with contenders. Hopefully Jorge wants this fight and not a pointless rematch with Diaz. Burns vs Edwards - the winner is guaranteed the next title shot, both already deserve it. Covington vs the Masvidal/Usman loser - either way, guaranteed heat and fireworks, and a route back to the title. Chiesa vs Maia - super fun grappling match Wonderboy vs RDA - nothing else really for Wonderboy, both big names, they've never fought Nate Diaz vs Robbie Lawler - this would be a great headlining fight on a lesser card, and is about what both guys deserve. Of course, Nate wouldn't accept it.

Dana knows what the real money fight is, but for the sake of making it fair he won’t do it. In a real world, Kamaru Usman needs to try and take the belt from the current holder Chael P. Sonnen. That’s just how this works

The idea that the loser of a championship fight should get an immediate rematch is just silly. It seems like an insult to the other guys waiting in line. In Covington’s case it wasn’t even a split decision and there are plenty of credible contenders. You may disagree with the judging but the fight needs to have consequences and the division needs to move forward.
