I don't agree with the perspective that this should be viewed through the lens of dominance hierarchies, but it is important to be aware of the effect of body language on what we're trying to communicate. If you want to be understood and maintain good face to face communication skills then it is a must.
How I read the situation: Tucked lips means I'm nervous or intimidated. Laughing means also submission ( to calm one's nerves.) The calmest person is the alpha.

He's the perfect boss for this type of organization. He allows his employees to touch him and make jokes with him but just enough to make them understand that he's the guy organizing everything. He makes them feel like he takes care of them (even though he kinda doesn't cause he doesn't pay them as much)
