I was blown away to see this video.. I spent a year at a US Army base about 2 miles from Hoi An. This, of course, was 1970-1971. I recall Hoi An as being a sleepy little town then that seemed to only exist because of the military traffic thru it. I'd LOVE to travel back to Vietnam and see Danang, Chu Lai and Hoi An where I spent the vast majority of my year there...
The reason why we have afternoon nap is because : we used to get up very early in the morning to work (4-5 am) and the temperature is so high in the afternoon(so people dont want to go out). very few people go out side for shopping at this time. and yeah it´s traditional ;)
Was going to comment, decided not to because I didn’t want to ruin the perfect 111 comments. Looked and seen that the video was posted on April 6th , which is my birthday. So I must comment. Just watched my 4th video of this couple. All I wanted to say is this might be addictive Kara is so sweet I like this couple. I will be watching all the videos.
Hoi An was my favourite place in Vietnam. But sadly we went during the wet season in Hoi An and it flooded. But it was so beautiful. I’d love to go back one day.
you guys really know how to make great vlogs congrats Hoi An looks amazing my friends was there a month ago and his still raving about it. love the music
The French taught us that (long hrs lunch break). My dad used to have that French's style 2 hrs lunch break. He ate lunch, napped, showered, then return to work. Saturday is regular work and school day. Only Sunday off. Viet Nam was under French for so long (~80 yrs). The French's cultural is still deep in Vietnam re lifestyle and food, such as bakery, baguette bread, jambon, pate', salads. Thank you so much for the videos. I really enjoyed watching them!
Hoi An was my favorite place when I went to visit Vietnam. I got 3 tailored suits that are still good after 7 years! Cao Lau imo was delicious, it's said that the noodles can only be made in Hoi An because of special water from the Ba Le Well that makes the texture and taste of the noodles so good.
Excuse me? I've worked in the restaurant service field, I've never worked in a restaurant that was not polite and helpful to foreign visitors. I don't know if you work for North Korea or something but shut up.
Just recently started watching your videos, and have now seen pretty much all of them within three days haha! Thanks for sharing your wonderful travels with us here on the internet!
Our favorite place in Vietnam. Got to go to the tailors next time - Miss Forgetmenot is the best one ever. She made me a 3 piece suit and my wife a Vietnamese chiffan dress.
I watch Our Curious Georgia vlogs and they lived in Danang and Hoi An for months and they are Vegan and the places they ate looked amazing. You probably don't have time to watch other people's vlogs but if you ever go back there then I recommend you watch their vlogs first, I know you are not Vegan but the food they ate looks really amazing.
Hoi an is a beautiful place with amazing food, the guys in your hotel will always recommend a friend of theirs if you ask for recommendations for things. Our hotel owner took us to their friend Tailor who made us clothes and also to friends of theirs who owned a restaurant. So you may of got unlucky with your noodle dish. Also I hope Anthony bordain got to view this before he passed, rip.
i just started watching you guys about a month ago and i got to tell you you 2 are the greatest. your vlogs are very entertaining and informative also.... i'm jim from ohio
I love your vlog and wish I had found you sooner! I spent 6 months in Hanoi in 2016-2017 and travelled all over Vietnam. If you ever go back, please try the Bun Cha in Hanoi. It is a northern Vietnamese dish, so you can only find it there. When President Obama went, it was his favorite dish. Bourdain also filmed an episode with him and Obama eating it together in old town. It quickly became my favorite dish! Happy Travels!
Awww, I'm sorry to see you're not feeling well. I know this was 2 years ago, and you're likely feeling much better now, but for what it's worth... I'm still sorry.
Are you sure you got the same sandwich as Anthony Bourdain? I think his was different and had a fried egg in it. Regardless, I'm sure it was still a delicious banh mi. You guys should try banh xeo, banh cuong, etc. Watch youtuber Helen's Recipes before you head back to Vietnam and try the stuff she cooks. Also, Yummies4Dummies is entertaining and Van's Kitchen and Runaway Rice have great recipes, too.
Did you take advantage of any of the spas in Hoi An? I had the best massage and foot reflexology treatments for like $25 US and I felt like a million $$$ afterward.
Hi kara and Nate sandwich looked good when you are in Vietnam you must try pho pho dish my son is working out in Vietnam teaching it's his favourite dish.
I cant imagine how hard it is to travel the world and not buy anything. Ouch! Also I would have feelt so quilty not beeing able to contribute to their lifes. There are reasons for the hard sell strategy they have in many countries. Wich you know of course. I really like the look of this place. It spoke to my heart instantly. It looks so cozy. Rather this than fancy and sterile. However there are of course exceptings. But the cozy factor always have to be in there somehow. Cutest little alleyway. We have them in Trondheim to but they are larger. It doesent take much to be tho. LOL :D
They do the same thing in Mexico it's called a siesta its cause its usely to hot do do anything in the afternoon but cone late afternoon through the evenings there up and doing business and whatever
