@@vlad9vt Been here many times. Built by the lord of the area to add interest to his lands - a common pastime in the 1800s and onwards. There are some very ancient sites close to this. Lastingham Church is a great one - has been a continuous place of worship (documented by the Romans as being used as a temple to Mithras amongst several other historical sources) Saint Cedd (Patron Saint of Yorkshire) set up his shrine there 'amongst the beasts and the men who would be like beasts.' (how rude!) In a lot of the local churchyards close to here you will find viking monoliths, carved from Norwegian rock and transported across the North Sea, too.
