jam's energy translated way better than i expected in the live battle compared to the crew mission videos. Their energy was just so intense i absolutely loved it. LB really did so well too
In terms of Latrice and Kirsten’s styles while they both specialize in Afro Kirsten has a more modern approach to it while Latrice is true Afro through and through.
For real I think you were right about people checking to see who their fave group is up against. As a Jam Republic fan I was so impressed with Lady Bounce that I gave them a vote too. I think another thing the live audience may have taken into account is the fact that Lady Bounces disses were more obvious & easier for them to read.
i mean if we take real context, korean is a pretty patriotic country so even if Jam do it better than any Korean contestants they will 80% still lose to the korean contestants from the live audience no matter what, i know it's sounds not fair but it is what it is sadly 😢
so i guess it's pretty smart that JR choose Lady Bounce because JR already expected it that they'll probably lose from the live audience, so they can depend on their views and global votes which probably gonna help JR alot
Absolutely agree! You may notice such stuff even in other mnet shows. Foreigners are always at disadvantage when it comes to audience voting JUST because they’re foreigners
Agree with so many points made here! It should show a huge testament to JR seeing how they are doing SO WELL in the competition even with that in mind!
Dont have a weak mindset and hide behind the words jr is foreigner and the audience are biased, why u dont want to admit that your fave is lose fairly enough once , IF THEY COULD SHOW MORE THAN THIS THEY WILL ABSOLUTELY WIN, BUT IN THIS BATTLE JAM IS LACKING ON CLIMAX EVEN I COULD SAY THERE IS NO WOW POINT AT ALL, YES THEIR DANCE ABILITY IS ON HEAVEN LEVEL. BUT FOR BATTLE? Their performance is way down than LB, LB GIVE EXCITEMENT AND MORE UNEXPECTED AREA Sorry this is my opinion
@@powderyeat782 you really lacks experience with Korean Shows esp Mnet and it's showing, i commented based seeing from all of the experience i watch that mnet survival show who has foreign contestants, i'm not even biased here because i also love LB peformance more here lmao 💀
both did well. like one of the judge said LB was good on the entertaining aspect (the props, the silly shade, their expression) it was perfeclty done for the public and JR dance a lil more technical, like it was amazing too, it was reall done well and all. anw. i really like both of their vibes here
I can’t remember if I commented this before, but personal accounts from the live audience also described the viewing experience as less than ideal. Many said that it was difficult to fully see the stage and most of the audience could only see the dancers upper bodies. I would say that was somewhat reflected in the audience score for teams like Jam Republic and Mannequeen as well, who had more floor work in their routines and put them at an unforeseen disadvantage. I think it was an oversight and product of poor planning by the producers unfortunately, along with the scoring system itself- but that’s a whole other conversation. As always, thank you for your insights and thoughtful deep dives in these videos!
Great perspective in all of this! I mentioned this during Wolf'lo's and Bebe's section "a" battle because I think that matters more than most things! Boo to bad seating!
Mean battle! Lady Bounce deserved the win. Jam Republic is one of those crews that bring the best out of other crews & you see that in their other match ups, that is why JR is one of the best crews on the show! But mad respect for Lady Bounce for bringing their best in this battle!
Both the judges and audiences voted all three part together. Don't know whether there are live monitor there or not. If not, I feel Jam's floor movements may cost them on audience voting. The shooting and the judges' viewpoints are higher than the stage, but the audiences' angle are much lower. I doubt they could see all the floor movements.
oh dang i didnt know that, it would have been nice if the judges (at least) had voted for each part seperately and then the audience just vote all together 🤔🤔
You made a good point, if you go back and look at the other side of the audience (behind Kirsten and latrice)you could see how low they are. I would say maybe only the front row saw all of the floor work.
Yes to this! Angle is everything and we got the best seats in the house haha! There were going to be BIG details lost in every performance of every crew because of this seating arrangement. I actually brought this up during my first reaction of BEBE and WOLF'LO because each crew will be limiting viewing of people watching based on where they are seated...
JR losing the audience vote here solidified my belief that they’re not winning the show at all, in the preview they teased that JR and 1Mil are candidates for the elimination battle(?) despite placing 2nd/3rd. this could just be mnet evil editing but if its true it really shows that they only brought international crews to the show for views but don’t actually want them to win (tsubakill getting eliminated even tho they were ranked 2nd place) overall i think ManneQueen or 1Mil will win the show
But honestly i feel like they couldve actually had a shot in the show idk i hope so, but in this round i think that ladybounce just managed to give such a solid performance with good energy and synchronization also gave us lots of creativity and wow factor in it so i think its fair if in this round lb won it not necessarily rigged. But yea i just hope the show is really fair at giving everyone the same shot not just the popularity either korean popularity or international popularity
for some reason I think Bebe as well. 1M feel more deserved but too obvious of a choice and Mannequeen have had various circumstances edited against them I feel 😓
It's a tricky thing for sure! Part of me feels that JR has a genuine shot, and part of me thinks they may not... At the end of the day I hope that the teams that are in the finals are able to showcase themselves at their best because that's what we all will remember most!
Lady Bounce set a very high standard with their first performance, which i think made it difficult for Jam to surpass that level from the perspective of someone who is not a dancer taking in that their atmosphere is completely different, jam's dance didn't feel as powerful as it should have because of lady bounce's dance giving that their style is more easy to understand. I think that the risk they're taking is performing a dance style that's less typical in front of a mostly korean audience (as in I'd assume their more drawn to their korean hiphop culture), and most of all regular people who probably don't have any dance experience at all , which does give the audience a hard time to fully comprehend the difficulty that is required for Jam's dance since no one is really familiar to what the dance they do and the strength it takes to execute the moves iykwim. i personally also would've voted ladybounce
YES TO THIS! Timing of performing, order of the battles, styles and costuming ALL play a role in the subjectiveness of the layman's perspective! Thank you so much for sharing!
Honestly jam is that group where I think cameras can’t literally capture the energy they bring. Once you see them live ITS GAME OVER. - also love lady bounce vibe. They’re sooo funn!!!
what you said about JR exposing Koreans to a style they're not typically used to seeing is actually what I've seen a lot of them (Koreans) commenting under JR videos Edit: if ppl were paying attention to jam this whole show, they'd realize that they seem to prefer their individuality over being "clean". if Kirsten or Latrice had an issue with their synchronization they'd fix it. JR is an international group not a kpop grp.
I'm really happy we get to see an international perspective showcased on the show because so many people probably have never been exposed to this side of the industry prior to this series, so it's a victory for dance in my book!!!
If we’re going to have this conversation about audience/live voting we have to be brutally honest about it. MNET already has a winner picked they just to make the story telling entertaining. Jam is used for more viewership. Koreans are inherently biased as they’re socially behind by decades. (This isn’t prejudice just very unfortunate fact.) All that said MNET and Korea wouldn’t allow a foreign group to outshine their home groups and that’s the problem. Nationalism is overshadowing talent. You don’t see this issue with other dance shows outside of Korea. Korea should step back from inviting foreigners to compete in their shows if they can’t accept that there are non Koreans that are more talented than them. Jam is the superior crew out of the lineup and the Koreans know that. Hence why all of a sudden the audience vote matters more than the judges.
The downside to politics I’m afraid….. it doesn’t surprise me at all and I knew going into it that no international crew will win this. Especially since it’s already difficult enough to make it an even playing field with seasons past and this is no different. The structure of the show doesn’t have the dancers intentions at the heart of it or we wouldn’t have near as much drama and stress honestly. The show is great for promoting dancers and choreographers but the logistical side regarding placing a in the show I personally feel don’t 100% matter as much as the authenticity presented by the crews. I agree with so much that you said and I’m hopeful in the future we can see more growth from all sides of competitive reality tv from all countries
To be honest Jan Republic were treated really well during this show. So I personally felt as if there was progress? in regards to how they handled the international crews this season. I watched other survival shows and they way they treated Chinese contestants in particular was horrendous.
@@Leartes20mannequeen is my favorite team after jam republic. If JE wasn’t competing I’d be rooting for them. None of that negates the reality of the situation. Learn nuance before responding.
I don't know. I don't think we should discredit LB win and effort, just bcus most of the live audience is korean. There were alot of korean who is a fan to JR. LB deserved it. Kudos also to JR for amazing performance.
I agree with you! I feel they performed very well and the audience voting was just one slight factor to consider regardless of the content provided. Some people will vote a certain way regardless of what happens on the stage, but I really think that LB and JR brought it!!
Super happy for lady bounce!! Theyre so in sync and have so much personality so it’s really fun to watch them! Someone remind me.. were they a choreo crew or more freestyle crew?
JR willing to take the risk of showcasing 2 people to start which is nice to see. 😊 All the teams did so well making it entertaining for the audience!! I love Yeni + Haechi reactions so much. I hope they have a comedy show one day. 👏 The SWF2 stage tour sold out their Seoul show/s in 5mins, so the demand is definitely there, and I'm sad I won't get to see it live. I agree home-court advantage will always be a thing; but if the show actually was going to be more fair, then the live audience vote would've been calculated in a different way (such as a proportional/percentage vote), but of course that doesn't suit the narrative of the Mnet execs. 🙄 The ladies of JR also tow the fine line that they represent an international agency wanting to book more work, have more workshops, grow business relationships etc in SK, so they're just dealing with the politics. Even though MAC Cosmetics is one of the major sponsors; a brand that's meant to be inclusive of everybody, and they have multiple product placements and paid promotions throughout this season. It didn't escape my attention that Latrice answered a fan question on her social media recently; LOLing that she does 100% of her own makeup for the show. There's prob so much going on behind-the-scenes that contractually they'll probably never talk about.
Thanks for your reviews! I love hearing from your perspective. My pure assumption for the live audience voting for LB could have also been that only 2 of JR danced? I don't know, I can't really give a good analysis behind but regardless of how good it was, a part of me find it quite hard to process that only 2 of them danced. I just don't know what to think of it. But then I've seen several English-speaking reviews and none of them seemed to mind them so I thought it might be the Korean part of me playing here. Another factor could be that Koreans love clean, synchronised dancing style (which I am sure you would know from being exposed to K-pop). To my (I think) Korean eyes JR often doesn't seem very crisp and clean and that doesn't look "pretty" so to say and at times it's quite distracting for me. And they were competing against LB whose strength is their clean execution. Don't get me wrong, I do love JR - they were probably one of my 2 fav crews in the show (another being Wolf'Lo). Having watched your analyses, I think some part of it could be due to the difference in style, but even then I would imagine if, for example, LB or a Korean crew danced afro, etc. (Forgive me for not being more concise here, I am not as well-educated as I would like to be, soI might be using some terms incorrectly X'D), they would have focused much more on synchronisation. The reason I bring this up is because I am not sure how much of people naturally prone to vote to a Korean crew would have played a role here - I would have said differently if it was Tsubakill. Looking back when the show was live, I just don't remember people discussing anything much about JR being the non-Korean crew if not positively. Koreans can be either ways with something new and international, and with JR I think it was more that people were in awe and almost looked up that it was something different.
Thank YOU for taking the time to watch and provide such great perspective! Truly insightful and I can agree with so much! I can also see how the voting could be influenced by your POV because I see those trends as well from the exposure of so much Kpop content! I also believe that JR tackles styles that can come across clean but the pockets and grooves explored with those styles are more focused on the communal aspects of the culture!
@@jess_holyfield Thanks for your response & your positive energy! Yes I definitely can see that JR can do "clean" stuff. As you've said, they were just not going for that particular style.
not related to the dance themeselves, both crews are absolutely phenomenal, but the 2nd takes for front shots are painfully obvious, one second everyone is going wild then the next second they’re like 😐
This is a survival show, so there's absolutely rules on how to receive points from many platforms such as (number of views, likes, votes - online. Number of votes by audiences - offline/live performance. The 3 judges, etc). And have to remember this Mnet survival show and Mnet famously known for their evil editing, and they know by giving us the viewers some drama means increased in ratings. So I hope that we just enjoy watching the show and give fully support to all 8 very talented crews participating in SWF2. If really wanna help the crew of your choice to win, please do it by voting. All 8 crews already won when participating in SWF, the exposed this survival show gives to especially the lesser known crews to the global viewers and for me is the best thing that each crews getting. And I'm sure no one will complain about that...hahaha~~~
Yes to so much of this! I'm so glad that we were able to have so many people exposed to the beauty of dance and how these dancers and choreographers are getting their flowers!
@jess_holyfield We all knew about Mnet's reputation when it comes to their survival show right (evil editing/ fake teaser). At the same time I can't help it and say thank you Mnet for giving us the Street ____ Fighter series. Because of SF series, only few backup dancers that we the public recognized (example Honey J, Kwon twins, Cha Hyun-Seung, Bae Yoon-Jung, etc), and we won't bother about the dancers when idols performing in music shows. Right after the first episode of SWF showed, we the viewers started noticing not only for the idols but also the dancers, and I'm absolutely grateful that the dancers/choreographers is getting what they've deserved. SGF2 is coming soon with SWF2's casts as the mentors. Can they do better than last season?
I wish these shows were unbiased, but because of the world we live in, it's pretty much impossible to create an objective system with subjective people (including judges!) I'm hopeful Mnet continues to figure out better ways to make scoring and rankings more objective and better balanced I percentages!
