They never studied this kind of dance like tuting, vogging..... before. They study for Naughty. Lets just appreciate how talented and how hard they worked. This is so so incredible.
@@tonton_vu6258 yesss new way vogue with hella angles and precisions and flexibility. Right off the bat I saw the influences of vogue hand performance in this choreo
Waiting for them to perform this at shows.... They're really gonna perform this dance on music shows, sadly the cameramen will not know how to film it and it'll look really messy but oh well. They're main and lead dancers of RV for a reason! Apparently they practiced for a month to get the basics then actual choreo took about 3 months
Okay but so true😂😂😂😂 after i saw the dance i immediately looked for lisa’s cover cuz we all know how quick she is and to my surprise there wasnt one😳😳 but forreal soooo true😂😂😂
The music and styling is so SM, it's like SM at it's purest... As in the MV and Clothing are later BoA vibes... The dance reminded me of 4 walls FX, and Genie Girls generation, and they have a few segments from monster... Like SM are trendsetters, revolutionary, they create the standards of Kpop, but still sticks to what makes/made SM... Keeping it true to their roots...
i know right ?! it amazes me how incredibly clean and precise their movements are. can't even begin to imagine how much work was put into learning this choreography.
Basically you have to do it over and over and over again so that your muscle memory is much more accurate. This was most definitely rehearsed for months. But once you have it down, it’s so fun!!
Voguing and Waacking are two TOTALLY different styles. Yes, you are correct in saying one started in east coast and one started west coast. And both originated in the LGBTQ community. The choreographer is actually someone who trained with Tutat who is probably the FATHER of Tutting at this point, but she started as a waacker. His (Tutat's) signature has always been using diagonal and 3D tuts which is displayed here. I would say this piece has a mainly tut-focused dynamic with elements of Waacking (mainly lines and arms, no actual waacks) and VERY little vogue. Waacking and Vogue are two separate entities with different "concepts" or elements, as we call it. It's a lot to talk about in just one RU-vid comment, but you should really look into it. However, in terms of the actual dance itself, both Seulgi and Irene were better than one another in some aspects. Seulgi REALLY showed how good her lines were in comparison to Irene. Her angles are much sharper and she keeps all her 90° angles really well. Definitely showed strength and power in the dance. But Irene does the finger tuts/micro movements and keeps a really soft femininity throughout the video/choreography. Both displayed their charms very well. I loved it as someone who waacks and knows the culture.
Please tell me who the choreographer is! I've been trying so hard to find out who it is, I have my suspicions as to who it is, though I'm probably wrong
Lines and hand performance are a huge part of the oldschool vogue style as well, so I do believe there's an amount of old school vogue influence in certain parts of the choreography. Tutting and waacking is definitely there in the more fluid and finger / forearm tutting sections respectively, but there are other sections that one wouldn't classify as either tutting or waacking, which seem to be oldschool hand performance - when their core is staying solid without turning and twisting that is.
@@kribyy7784 Aseul dont know tutting as well tho. they learned it specifically for naughty.. i think between chaeyoung & chungha, maybe chung knows bit basics of tutting. idk i just feel like it by the way she controls her hands whenever she dances hehe
I love how she's saying how hard the dance is and I'm over here thinking about doing this as my dance midterm... and I don't even know vogue or tutting. Well, good thing I'm learning this 7 months in advance.
This track is straight up Janet Jackson, self-titled era b-sides. SM artists seem kinda partial to the Janet influence, thinking specifically of NCT-127 Superhuman and Luna’s Free Somebody.
For those who are not familiar, this is called vogue new way, which sometimes uses elements of tutting. As the style is all about creating shape, boxes, squares and loads fo stretches, also there's no waacking in it.
And yes (no shade) but most people who make dance covers don't perfect perfect it, and their main goal is to learn it asap and then to film and put it up. Perfecting a dance takes months
yes and we should appreciate bith... becasue creatign a whole different ballgame ...and someone to be skilled enough to pick up on such a geometrical technical choreo in days time is aamzinggg
"It'd be alot for audience to look at, it'd kinda be sensory overload." I just got it now. Maybe that's why SM use monochrome theme, because irene and seulgi already serve gorgeous visual and INTENSE performance so the neutral costumes will balance it. SM knew WE CAN'T HANDLE IT.
Fun fact : All of Red Velvet is a Main vocalist, Main Dancer, Main Rapper, Visual, Center, FOTG And ngl, Both of them are the main dancer, vocalist and rappers in the subunit
11:40 same sis. I feel ya. This is my 2nd fave gg choreo next to butterfly. Whoever thought about using waacking and tutting together (in SM) needs a raise.
Oooh, you've never seen Four Walls by F(x), have you? That's a fun dance, too, and it's kind of like the precursor to this one (this is way harder). But a lot of F(x) got switched over to Red Velvet. Most of their members were trainees at the same time , but Kyle Hanagami has worked with both groups and it's easy to see their SM choreographer also takes inspo from years of adjusting Hanagami's dances. This was one of SM's choreographers (beatburgerjae) and a hand choreographer named Spella (it took 5 months to make I guess?) and Monster was Janelle Ginestra. I didn't know hand choreographers existed until Naughty came out.
Oh man, really? I didn’t know Kyle Hanagami worked with them! He’s one of my favorites. I did know Janelle (who I also love) choreographed Monster. Cool to see some of my faves getting such awesome work!!
What makes it so much harder than it already is, is the fact that there is barely any repetition (maybe even just the part where they sing "let's go, let's go"...?)
agreed theres also a lot of unique movements which id say isn't basic in tutting (but it might just be because of their hand shapes hehe) ^^ i think the only parts they repeat are the first chorus, first half of the second chorus, and that chorus outro part where they sing naughty~ naughty~ naughty~ oh eh ah oh
The style would be a combo of tutting( the hand/finger focused moves) and New Way Vogue( the full arm/elbow focused moves) one of my favorite choreos I’ve seen recently it’s actually so fun to do!
Actually enjoyed your reaction videos about Irene and Seulgi, it is not like that typical just reacting on things and was not overreacted. Thank you for recognizing Irene and Seulgi, hopefully next time we would get a content about the whole group, Red Velvet❤.
I had the same reaction when irene solo part and seulgi solo part when irene's hand came out, it is incredible. Also as a reveluv knowing that rv try a lot of things, i wondered when will rv try to do tutting/vogueing/waacking, and then bam naughty came out. I am so glad i stan red velvet
As much as I love all of the other releases this summer like Maria and pporappippam, Irene and Seulgi were definitely the best, just the talent needed for all of this is insane
I had half a mind to sit this reaction vid down but I'm glad I didn't. It's quite insightful and it was nice to know about the origin of the dance styles they did in Naughty. Your reactions were enjoyable too! They weren't too much and it's also quite calming lol. PS. is actually a follow-up single after and will be promoted this week, I think. The video is a stand-alone MV that will also be followed-up by Irene's solo performance (out now on RV's RU-vid channel) and the MV for Seulgi's solo song
Love your outfit and analysis, their dance is so symmetrical, they are portraying mirrors! Arms choreographies are AS HARD as footwork. Gfriend’s Apple and Loona’s Butterfly intro were also pretty smooth.
yeah also some people in their twenties look like 30 and vice versa. for me she looks in her twenties anyway (and people who are 30 look like they are in their 20's too in general)
@@gracegrimms1627!!!!!! Definitely checking it out! Thank you!!! :] Edit: I just actually checked it. I can't believe I've already watched it months ago, yet didn't recognize you. lol As always, thank you for the great content!
I agree. Irene looks like a beautiful ageless fairy. She hasn’t aged for a very long time. I don’t know much about dance but F(x)’s 4Walls has a similar look to this. Same company too. You don’t see much of the dance in the music video so you’d have to watch a music show preformance.
I really like when you talking about their dance 😳😳😳 Thats reaction is like me when i first watching that mv.. Is so stunning and focus to their choreography.. Btw when you said irene looks so young, i even more suprised with you.. This is my first time watching ur reaction and you looks like a kid too.. You are so pretty too noona 😆
To be honest this reminds me a lot of the Tecktonik/Shuffle/Hardstyle era that I was into during the early 2000s. But even then it does not compare to the level of dance this choreography requires. With Tecktonik it is pretty much improvised wacking, shuffle, and tutting. This Naughty dance is fully choreographed to follow along with the song until the very end. Applause for the choreographers that worked on this along with the producers, film crew, dance crew, and stylists.
THANK U!!! I'm sooooo here for the cultural reference about the real influences on the dance and how it has to be truly appreciated by people and not just used and claimed!!!
Thanks for your reaction !! It’s always nice to see how you appreciate all the effort that was put into the choreography !! Also I don’t know if you are aware but Irene is coming out with a solo dance performance today at 12pm kst if I’m not mistaken !! It’ll be a mashup of all the songs on the album. Then Seulgi is probably gonna come out with a Performance for Uncover the next day. It’s her solo track from the album
First of all, i like your hair it just seems like silk Also thank u so much for giving us information unlike most part of utubers it's so appreciated 🤍
The SM instagram has some videos of other artists covering a bit of the dance from the chorus as the Naughty Challenge - i think Hyo has done it and Jeno and Jaemin from NCT Dream
This is the first time in watching one of your videos and I loved and agreed with your analysis completely!!! You just gained yourself a new subscriber! 😁 (ps. Since you say that you like girl crush vibes, I'm wondering if you've seen G(idle)'s stuff. Their songs "Oh My God" , "Lion" , "Hann", and "Uh oh" are really good and it would be awesome if you did a reaction on one of them! Anyways hope you have a wonderful day and stay safe!
She's so pretty, imma add my thought here once I watched the whole vid but atm that's my comment edit: ok so I don't have specific thoughts but I loved it. it was a really fun and entertaining video. im also a dancer and its nice to see someone with those kinds of insights react to this.
I'm 29 old too and lot of people think i'm younger than that (like 24 or less ). I think it's more because when you are in your 20-30 your face don't move that much and it's hard to put a real age on you just by your look. Anyway i'm happy to have a fellow 1991 kid in kpop, everyone is so young nowadays it's hard to feel connected to them sometimes.
14:27 Havoc Dance already did a cover of that choreo and it was pretty accurate. :o I appreciate how you explain what's going on and give your input as a dancer. Wish more reaction vids were like that.
apparently it took the two of them about 5 months to learn tutting n the choreo which is crazy- n its so refreshing to see more unique dance styles incorporated into kpop choreo like tutting, voguing, n waacking (ik theres been other idols whove done these styles in their choreos before but not to this extent i feel like)
