Dance (Parts 1 & 2) • Dance (Parts 1 & 2) - ...
"Dance (Pt. 1)" was released on The Rolling Stones's 15th studio album, Emotional Rescue, in the summer of 1980. "If I Was A Dancer (Dance Pt. 2)" is a longer and different mix and containing different lyrics from "Dance (Pt. 1)" which was released in the spring of 1981 on the really fine 4th Rolling Stones album, Sucking In The Seventies. I've
My absolute favorite Rolling Stones albums are those that make up the 4 album stretch (of which Emotional Rescue was the third) that began with Black and Blue in 1976 and ended with Tattoo You in 1981. Certainly they made greater albums than some of these (Some Girls I believe can be argued to be among their greatest ever) but I guess its not a coincidence that these were the albums which were released when I was in high school and was really into The Rolling Stones....plus of course, the memories surrounding them are the strongest.
From Wiki: Recorded throughout 1979, first in Nassau, Bahamas (Compass Point), then Paris (Pathe Marconi), with some end-of-year overdubbing in New York City, Emotional Rescue was the first Rolling Stones album recorded following Keith Richards' exoneration from a Toronto drugs charge that could have landed him in jail for years. Fresh from the revitalization of Some Girls, Richards and Mick Jagger led the Stones through dozens of new songs, some of which were held over for Tattoo You, picking only ten for Emotional Rescue.
While several of the tracks featured just the core band of Jagger, Richards, Ronnie Wood, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman, keyboardists Nicky Hopkins and co-founder Ian Stewart, sax player Bobby Keys and harmonica player Sugar Blue joined the Rolling Stones on Emotional Rescue.
This is my 2nd video for a Rolling Stones song (after "Wild Horses") and I'm happy I finally got around to finishing it. Hope to make a few other vids for some of my other favorite Rolling Stones songs in the future, until then.....hope you enjoy this one!
Special thanks of course to everyone who's art contributed to this new art!
[Lyrics Pt. 1]
Hey, what am I doing standing here on the corner of
West 8th Street and 6th Avenue and...
Ah, skip it.
Nothing. Keith! Watcha, watcha doing? (whistle)
Oh, I think the time has come to get out, get out
Get up, get out, get into something new
Get up, get out, into something new
Ooh! And it's got me moving (Got me moving honey!)
Ooh! And it's got me moving
Ooh! And it's got me moving
Ooh! And it's got me moving
My my my, my my my, my my my, my my my, my
Poor man eyes a rich man
Denigrates his property
A rich man eyes a poor man
And envies his simplicity.
Get up, get up, into something new
Get up, get out, down into something new
Ooh! and it's got me moving
Ooh! and it's got me moving
Ooh! and it's got me moving
Ooh! and it's got me moving
Ooh! and it's got me moving
Yeah, get up, get up, get out
Into something new
Yeah, all, woncha all, woncha all, woncha all
Don't stand accused....
[Lyrics Pt. 2]
I stand accused of talking
But I feel that we are falling
In the same old groove
The radio is playing
Spitting out the same old news
It's time to get up, get out
Get out into something new
Time to get up, get out
Out into something new
Everybody wants somebody's fantasy
Everybody wants somebody's crazy dreams
Everybody wants somebody's fantasy
Everybody wants somebody's crazy dreams
If I was a woman, I would want a new man every night
If I was a woman, I would want a new man every night
If I was a politician, make sure I was the best in sight
If I was a woman, I would want a new man every night
The poor man eyes the rich man
Denigrates his poverty
The rich man eyes the poor man
And envies his simplicity
Everybody wants somebody's fantasy
Everybody wants somebody's crazy dreams
If I was a movie star, five million dollars would be my price
If I was a trucker, I'd drive for seven days and seven lonely
nights
If I was a drummer, I would never miss the beat
If I was a dancer, y'all would never see my feet
If I was a hooker, a thousand dollars would be my price, all
right
If I was a candidate for President, I'd make sure I had a
steady wife
If I was a millionaire, I'd spend all my money in one crazy
night
I am what I am
(?) boss ??
I am what I am
My dreams can't be bought
Yeah, I said now here comes a dollar fifty(?)
Stranding in New York(?)
Yeah, I am what I am
(?)
Everybody wants somebody's crazy dreams
Everybody want somebody's fantasy
Everybody wants somebody's crazy dreams

The lyrics in the beginning are: Mick: what am I doing standing here on 8th Street and 6th ave? Keith: (answering Mick) You're asking me?

In 1980 i was the only guy around who loved the album "Emotional Rescue" now everyone claims they loved it..(Believe me nowbody did back then) and although Dance pt 1 & 2 had a disco ring to it/it was an incredible song.Amazing what you do with these songs.Reminds me a little of the beginning of the old James Bond movies where you had a beautiful woman dancing in the back ground as the opening credits begin.very good stuff

You're right. I was 23 in 1980 and I kept hearing rumors for months ER was to be released in the spring so when it was I bought it immediately. Shortly thereafter the critics hated it and all my friends didn't think much of it either. The following yr Tattoo You was released after much ado and slow pr build up and the critics loved it. I saw the Stones that summer ('81) @ JFK Stadium and they were incredibly good!
