So I truly thought I did this video but its cool we hear now ! LOL thank you all so much for the love and support out here for real more videos coming appreciate everyone in the comments !
The middle part where you thought their wave should be sharp, there was a reason it wasn't. They were making a strand of DNA, that doesn't have sharp edges. So that's why it was like that. I always love your perspective Don!
The MV tells a psychologically-symbolic story, based on the meaning of the lyrics. The choreography expresses that kind of semi-abstract meaning, rather than being a storytelling narrative, or something that's purely music- and dance-centric. The Wikipedia article on the song says the choreographers were Christopher Martin with Keone and Mari Madrid. The connected arm passage, I think it would work better if they could make it softer, not sharper. Because it represents the curved structure of a strand of DNA. It's how our bodies come to be from nothing, and how we're all interconnected. Also. I realized that the end that they're able to hit it that hard and fast because they're just doing lalala, not singing other stuff. Their choreography has to support breathing space for them to sing.
I actually like that they do not hit hard on the hand holding part and it’s more fluid, goes with the blood in the veins image in the video at that moment of the dance and balances the hard hitting parts…
I think the beginning choreography fits the song bc it's not just the music, but the fact that the song is like a love song(lyrics ☺️). so focusing first on that guitar and then on the explosive moves because that's the kind of love that is being described. 😊
I love Keone and Mari they have a very specific style, it's different from their usual and that's why I like it. I mean if you are doing a concert for 2 to 3 hours you need something to break it up if it's all hard hitting and you need to catch your breath because you are singing too. So choices are made to breathe. Which is why it goes harder when there is more musical chorus or the whole group is singing. I know you get it 😘 but it is really different doing both, if they did the DNA linking sharper it would jerk your voice. And surprisingly it's never the moves that you think that make your voice bumpy 🤣🤣🤣 As always I love your reactions and I can't wait for more. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I think the main choreographer for the longest time was Son Sungdeuk. There are newer choreographers like Nick Joseph and Sienna Lalau, but he's their peformance director. If I recall correctly, Christopher Martin did the choreo for DNA.
I adore watching these reacts bc to see your face when the choreo is like *chef kiss* for you is the best! I'm not a professional dancer or choreographer and listening to your persepctive is just- it gives me such a bigger sense of appreciation for what these groups do and the work they put in to give us these amazing performances. Thank you so much Donald!!!
DNA was choreographed by Christopher Martin with Keone and Mari Madrid and I read where it said that the members took four hours to learn this dance but it only took jhope ten minutes his position in the group is lead rapper, and main dancer
Though the ten minutes could have been some what of a joke but jhope can learn a dance choreo fast and he teaches it to the members or helps teach the choreograph to the other members
DNA is still one of my favourite choreos. I always enjoy hearing your perspective on all their choreos, because I'm a kpop fan who knows absolutely nothing about dance or music, I just like what I like.
The thing that impresses me specifically when watching their choreography more than the overall dance, since they are not just a dance group, is the choreographic need to bring the featured vocalist or rapper to the front at just the right moment seamlessly with the rest of the choreography. Element that isn't always necessary if you're just choreographing a dance group.
I appreciate your honesty and sharing how you would have done the choreography different. I'm always curious about how choreographers are chosen for these groups and what makes the mgr/company/group choose a specific routine.
finally omg! 😭 i was waiting for this one. also i can think of like 5 bts practices off the top of my head that you still haven’t gotten to but NO PRESSURE lmfaooo
I know now what you see as a dancer…so let me tell you what I see as a fan. Yeah, DNA doesn’t have a lot of complicated footwork until the second half. However when we look at their dance practices, we can’t just consider them as a song by themselves. We have to think about the choreo in context with a full concert. And kpop concerts aren’t like Western ones where we have a little known opening act, then a bigger act or two, and then the headliner. At a kpop concert, the single artist performs for 2-3 hours. So if you look at DNA’s choreo and put it with 2 more hours of their choreo (lets say…Fire, Boy in Luv, Dope, ON, Black Swan, Boy With Love, Butter, Permission to Dance and Spring Day) then even the simplest of choreography becomes grueling. If you watch any of their behind the scenes stuff of concerts, they often come off stage and have to immediately collapse onto a stage hand, have to be peeled out if the costumes and cooled down, given straight oxygen because they are just so exhausted they cannot breathe, but they don’t want ARMY to see. Many kpop groups are like this, working the stages until exhaustion or passing out. Its nearly Muster (2 weeks in June filled with events from and by BTS to celebrate their debut anniversary, usually culminating in a concert, live vlogs, variety content of them playing games, and this year A NEW ALBUM. Also their YT channel tends to reshow old concerts. You may want to catch one). Also, if you haven’t seen it, you guys should watch their 2019 and 2018 MMA performances (Melon Music Awards) which are two of the best award show performances in history, hands down. It gives you a taste of their concert, but at an award show. When they left the 2019 stage they were collapsing after from exhaustion. (It had been a very busy few weeks promoting a new album, doing long performances for all the awards shows in Asia etc.
Yay!!! You did it! Thank you so much! I knew you would like this routine!! 💕💕💕 And it’s Boy IN Luv, not Boy WITH Luv. It’s two different songs and I know it’s confusing lol. You did react to the Boy WITH Luv though.
I studied dance (tap, ballet and jazz/modern) for ten years. That was a lifetime ago, but I still have a great appreciation for the art of dance. Some of my favorites are Black Swan (there is a Dance Practice in the studio, MV shooting, and not to be missed is Jimin’s Black Swan Solo-behind the scenes.) I saw the MV first and then went back to the practices. Also Blood, Sweat and Tears. While the MV is awesome, so much of the amazing dancing parts were not in the MV. Another favorite is “On” Kinetic Manifesto. I think you reacted to the dance practice, but the MV should be experienced for sure. And “Boy with Love” live version on The Late Show/Stephen Colbert. This is my favorite version of this song. This version is an homage to the Beatles filmed in black and white. The choreo may not be as difficult as some of their other songs but they are all in trim fit dark suits and it really shows off their lines and foot work and how they work as one. Enjoying your videos.
U must rmbr they need to dance + singing live.. plus they hv to sync with the lyrics.. their choreographers are mixed,, outside company plus internal plus jhooopeee …soo yeah..that how i understand them 🥰
Hey Donald! Can you react to an older kpop group that debuted in 2009? I want to hear what you think of their dancing/moves back then. The group is BEAST. The songs are “shock”, “breathe (soom)”, and “fiction”. All are very good songs also. Thank you. Appreciate it.
Usually choreographers give their choreo and then the in house choreographer chooses and arrange the movements in a way that will emphasis lyrics or will make it easier to sing while doing choreo. A lot of footwork like in house movements will influence their breathing too much. From a dancer's perspective I get what you mean though.
I’m a new subscriber, and I’ve been bingeing your BTS videos and now that I’ve actually logged in I have to go back and rewatch them and like them lol. I wanted to say it would be great to see you react to Jimin’s behind the scenes for Black Swan because he has a solo in the video that wasn’t in the dance practice y’all watched. He has the blonde curly hair in this video, your friend really liked him in the Dionysus video, he majored as contemporary dancer at art school and Black Swan is really his song. Love your reactions 💜
There is something like you were talking about here in Steezy channel (you probably know it?). They go 1 song 6 choreographers challenge or similar. I understand where you are coming from, and as someone said int he comments, I actually like the choreo as it is because it goes together with who's singing AND the lyrics. By listening to the music alone, I think you can come up with lots of variations but to incorporate the things you are talking about and also give space to breathe to who's singing is yet another level of... thoughtfulness? I guess ^^ Cheers! PS: Having said that, why don't YOU come up with a choreo for the song? ^^ Maybe show us with your crew or you alone? That'd be interesting!!!
