⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤘 You're right. That's about the best real Su-metal scream there is. Even though Su has a beautiful soprano voice, I love that she sings a lot of this one in a lower register. I was thrilled when they brought 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' back during the 2019 tour, and I was finally able to see it live at the LA Forum concert. 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' was one of their early hits. Even though the song is about a 15 year old girl attending her first heavy concert, Su was only 14 when the single and video were released. At that age she was on stage, rather than taking the train to see concerts like the girl in the song. : ) There's a fair amount of complicated wordplay in the song, like "ichigo" meaning "15" (1+5), "strawberry", and "once in a lifetime", but essentially it's about the ephemeral nature of youth. As usual, Yui and Moa are both hyping the audience and interpreting the lyrics with their dancing.

Nice one, thanks! Keep in mind that Yui and Moa's choreo has several purposes beyond the purely aesthetic. They try to explain the lyrics to some point and also get the crowd involved and hyped all the time by providing them the cues for the chants, etc. And this song and particular performance is one of the best examples of all this. They are black belt in crowd control! Until next time!

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。(FYI : I have tickets to BM's two-day concerts on coming Jan. 28 / 29. I can't wait 😍.) Can you believe that this is the 12th song after 11 exhausting performance (and still 2 more) ? In your video, you heard the crowd shout some words at 09:16. The words are "ki-e-ro 消えろ!" meaning "get out of here!" (addressed to crybabies in the metal concert). This crowd's shout in Japanese occurs wherever BM goes on this planet and whenever Su-Metal turns her mic towards audiences. Of course it did in 2019 US tour (20 gigs) and 2020 Europe tour (17 gigs). In 2021, eight years after this video, BM played this song in all of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN Concerts with Su's matured voice and Moa's more agitating moves. I witnessed it 9 times at the venue and was enchanted to headbang 9 times ヽ(^o^)丿

If you know where I can buy a ticket let me know. I assumed they were sold out a long time ago. I should have checked. I'm especially looking for the 29th as I want to see Atarashi Gakko and Wednesday Campanella on the 28th. But the Lawson website is now weeding out gaijin. The same thing with Blue Note Tokyo's site. I was so excited when I heard that Nao Yoshioka was doing another funk session. I'll have to go to the box office when I get there. And a Lawson. I did find the Lawson calender so I'll see something. I'm going to Tokyo see RU-vid singer songwriter Ni-Na for her first one-man.

I love your reactions, you're the first dancer who analyzes Babymetal's choreographies. Them choreographies, as you may have noticed, have evolved over time, the ones from the first album are full of energy, while the newer ones experiment with different dance styles and feel a more mature style. I recommend Brand New Day.

Quite a show that was. It was so early in their career and yet remains one of their most iconic concerts. The next 2 songs (Akatsuki unfinished and Babymetal Death), which are also the last 2 songs of the show, are an incredible finish to any concert. First a ballad that makes grown men cry, then a performance like no other for the final song. No spoilers, but the hardcore metal bands of years past could only dream of ending a show like Babymetal did.
@autohmae

Thank you for this reaction ! The side-ways headbanging in Babymetal is a new invention by Babymetal, not sure if that's Mikiko or the girls. But we know for example that pulling their ponytails at 6:07 is from the girls, it was something the girls did naturally in the studio for the lyrics 'With the legendary black long hair disordered around and gorgeously' (aka headbanging) and Mikiko incorporated it. 2:20 Su-metal just feels the song, she doesn't count, she just incorporated it into her being to move that way during the song. She seems to have synesthesia as well. You talking about masculine does remind me of something Mikiko has said: the girls at earlier age, because of their size have an easier time jumping, etc. so dances over time sometimes get slight adjustments. It might be a very similar move, but just the way the move is executed was changed. I love these choreographies because they are designed to make the audience join in. While maybe simpler, it's like having something simple in the lyrics of the song so the audience can join in singing along. And them having as part of the lyrics and chants: headoban, headoban. It's telling the audience to do so, because it's the Japanese verb for 'to headbang'.

I never thought about them taking a more masculine stance with feet a little farther a part but now that you mentioned it, I see it. Japanese women do stand with feet slightly farther apart. Thinking back to Idol group dance, it can go either way. And heels make a difference. I think the stance is a cultural thing and also a little bit physical. Japanese have shorter legs with a different hip structure. They have a lot of bowlegged people. A lot of women are pigeon toe'd for a few reasons. The most common reason is that they sit on the floor cross-legged and when they sit in a kneeling posture they have their feet splayed outward. Koreans do this too. Someone mentioned hip-hop. Mikiko went to the US to study hip-hop dance but found that it was hard for her because of her Japanese body so she went home to choreograph for the Japanese body.I read a translated interview. I won't be able to find that but here she slightly mentions it in limited English at the 3:55 mark. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SxlmCamI7Ps.html Keep in mind that western girls are taught to always keep their legs together. That effects our perspective. I don't know if you've been to India but it might be interesting to see if there's a difference in the castes perspectives about masculine and feminine, or anything for that matter. I'm guessing that the higher castes will have a greater British influence. What's you opinion on this subject regarding Bollywood?

Nice reaction. Knowing the lyrics may have helped a bit with your analysis in this instance. There are references to something about disorderly legendary long black hair for example - and then we see Yui and Moa holding out their pigtails. I believe that was their own idea and Mikiko incorporated that and other moves they made on first hearing the song into the choreo. The song itself is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but 15 is also a significant age in Japan as it marks the end of compulsory education, so she is also coming to terms with the fact she will no longer be treated just as a child and her first 15 years have passed by so quickly. So she is etching this special night into her heart so she will never forget. At shows on or near their own 15th birthdays in 2014 Su handed to mic and stand to Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne/Koln) half way through the song and they each took over lead vocals while Su slipped seamlessly into their place doing all the choreo. The same thing happened in 2019 on Moa's 20th birthday - you can find that listed as Moabanger on the reactor resource. As in the comments below they did a dance version of 'Headabanger' (the Night of 15 Remix) at the start of this concert (they did it the year before on Su's own 15th birthday too - that was at Legend D). Your reactions to the Night of 15 Remix and to 'Moabanger' would be interesting.

I don't remember how I know this or came to believe it, so I'll just say that legend has it that when YUI and Moa went to pigtails, they walked around all day holding their hair to train it. And Mikkio thought it was cute. I can't think of it right now but I believe YUI asked for a pose that the guy did in IDZ PV and got it for another song. Actually I remember her saying that. 2:50 Interesting topic. I also wonder maybe it is not always a masculine posture in Japanese eyes. When BABYMETAL does it in HEADBANGER, it is a very Rock n Roll stance. To my eyes it is a rock/metal posture with a bouncy, wider and lower center of weight stance. I feel I am watching a rock singer. But, more of the time, the posture in girl groups are showing body lines, a composition with body, does that make any sense? It's about the aesthetic of body and legs. And it's often a bridge into another cute or seductive pose. So it is not posing masculine but the opposite. There are cases which it is a powerful posture. In BABYMETAL's Karate, it is mimicking a martial art stance. Or in NIGHT BEFORE THE EXAM, more a hip hop posture. There is a chance that a lot of Japanese pop dance look like this because of the hip hop influence on modern dance culture in Japan. I am guessing a lot of this posture is from hip hop culture. I also think the triangle leg stance for BABYMETAL is a composition to match the three girls set up. It looks more aesthetic as the girls forming triangles with their height and their posture on the stage. And make them look more presence and also energetic. Instead of three tiny sticks of girls, this makes them seem bigger, wider on the stage. Yet, we can't conclude what this posture means only by BABYMETAL's case. Because BABYMETAL do want to show more power with their posture. But this will not fit other girls groups who have the similar posture but is not trying to be as deadly as BABYMETAL. There are too many cute groups that have the similar posture which will make the point wrong if we only consider BABYMETAL. There is this popular song:🔸"【Dance Practice】FRUITS ZIPPER「わたしの一番かわいいところ - Watashino Ichiban Kawaii Tokoro」", I feel it shows a little of how the wide stance posture is use in a cute and girly context. How it is the posture to show curtness or leading into more cute posture. This is probably not the best example but I don't have another one on the top of my mind. Or an idol dance like:🔸"【みこ】可愛くてごめん / HoneyWorks【オリジナル振付】" you can see the posture is there only to pose cuteness. And this other dance has some interesting legs uses, comedic and cute :🔸 "【文月きい】Lovers / sumika【踊ってみた】" On the opposite, this girl idol dance 🔸"【16th single】僕以外の誰か/小嶋花梨ver." is using the posture to pose coolness. This is also often seen in girl groups that is trying to look cool. And another song from them combines the coolness into seductive very well: 🔸"【8th single】カモネギックス/小嶋花梨ver." But they also are trying to use the coolness leading into seductive or feminine beauty's way. I think in girl idol dance's language, wide stance posture can means "look at my legs". In: 🔸"[4K] AKB48 Teacher Teacher | AKB48単独コンサート2020 Tandoku Concert" The posture from the very beginning is totally saying : 'look over here, look at me. And look at the legs. ' I don't know if any of my points make sense. But I am thinking that maybe it is a mixture of Hip Hop influences, aesthetic view on body, composition with body, an expression of cuteness, an idol tradition of showing the legs.

Nice reaction. Headbanger is about going to your first heavy metal concert at 15. Which I learned recently that folks under 15 are not allowed to go to metal concerts. While Su is sing this. It is not autobiographical. More like the 15 year old going to see them. I wonder if this is what Babymetal imagined it would be like. Once there realizing this only happens once. So, etch it into your heart so you can remember it always. I imagine folks going to see Babymetal for their first concert being ruined for life. Thinking that all concerts are going to be that good. Only to be disappointed when it isn't. Lucky Babymetal has a fix. Go see another Babymetal concert. It just so happens they will be performing at the end of this month. I can't wait to see the videos from those two shows. Later Babymetal will do Babymetal reacting to Babymetal music videos. There are about five of these videos. For this song one of the things Yui and Moa talk about is that they jump much higher now. There are videos of Moa jumping so high you would think she's trying to launch off the planet. Moa can get really pumped up at times. In one clip she does a triple jump so fast that she holds on to Su as if to keep her launching. lol Babymetal have so many fun clips. All part of why Babymetal became the happiest place in metal.

What I love about BM is you are always going to get a fantastic show! The wide leg stances can obviously be seen in Japanese martial arts and also in Kabuki theatre, but they are traditionally reserved for men...so yes it's a very masculine posture. I think you see both BM and AG using wide leg stances to emphasize their strength and non conformity with many Japanese cultural expectations. The "Legend 1997" refers to Su-Metal as she was born in 1997 and the concert was in late 2013 to celebrate Su's 16th birthday (the bass player has "Happy Birthday written on his head"). It also celebrated the transition of Babymetal from a sub-group of Sakura Gakuin performing to pre-recorded backing tracks to a separate metal act incorporating the Kami Band. They actually started the show with an ironically mimed dubstep/Broadway version of Headbanger called "Night of 15 Mix". Check it out to see BM not taking themselves too seriously. From this show they would go on to tour Europe in 2014 and have international success at 2014 UK Sonisphere. Headbanger is a bittersweet coming of age tale of a 15 year old girl taking the subway to a concert and getting lost in the experience and the mosh pit. She realizes that such moments of freedom will be fewer as she becomes an adult and she vows to remember the night. The other two girls. Moa and Yui, have taken the lead on the song to celebrate their own birthdays. Here are some more recommendations. Look at "Headbanger Night of 15 Mix" for that insane alternate universe version of what you just reviewed. Can you do some live AG soon? Here is Nai Nai Nai, not the best quality, but great atmosphere! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MYnMj8YIWPA.html

@@xiaouiris Sounds good. Woo Go is a collaboration between AG and Nike, AG often do sponsorships/endorsements/dance commissions. Nike wanted to encourage students to get out of the classroom and exercise...and obviously buy Nike products to do it. Woo Go encourages that and AG even manage to work the Nike "swoosh" into the choreography.

One of the characteristics of BABYMETAL's choreography is the exclusion of sexuality. This is also true for ATARASHII GAKKO.

@cuttysark8017 Год назад
I agree with you about BM, but AG sometimes play with sexuality like in Otana Blue. It’s not the obvious and crass use of sex that you see with many groups as it’s always linked to the subject matter of the songs, is often ironic and it’s only a small part of what they do.

IMHO the primary job of both Yui and Moa is crowd interaction. This song is a good example why: When the two jump, so does the crowd. When they raise an arm, so does the crowd. Dedicated crowd interaction parts are just a bonus.

in terms of choreography, the Fox Festival versions are the best. There's a lot more focus on the girls because the stage is small. Recommend to see. There girls are 18-20 years old (2017). Legend 1997 took place in 2013. Here the girls are 14-16 years old.

Regarding your comments about the "masculine" stance in dancing, Maybe I'm wrong but when you are doing dance routines where a lot of good balance is involved, it's a normal physical reaction to widen your stance when your brain tells you you are going to fall over if you keep using a tight stance. I've played a lot of sports over the last 60 years or so and the same principle applies. Whether it's ice hockey, American football, baseball, volleyball, tennis or just about any sport, your coaches, and your body, will tell you when you need to widen your stance to brace yourself for the next move. Then it becomes muscle memory and you do it without thinking. In another vein, I have been watching some shorts that show a Tibetan folk dance that is very graceful and fluid and has an almost hypnotic effect. I've enjoyed them so much that I've subscribed to several channels that are specifically for this dance. You should check it out. One place to look is Welcome to Chengdu and another is Yangkyi. I think they will entrance you the way they did me.
@xiaouiris
@xiaouiris Год назад
Balance in dance doesn't come from the stance, it comes from how you land on your feet (flat keeps you balanced) in terms of females, it is noticeable wider then would be considered appropriate so I did wonder. Interesting you mentioned sports though because I have a few dancers that play sports and they eased into the stance more so then non-sports players.

I follow some reactors that dissect babymetal music pretty well and interesting. Others focus more on Su's voice. In your case, you give us your thoughts about how the choreography match with the music and works pretty well. I had never paid much attention about why they make that robot movements until your reaction. This is another interesting point of view and makes this band more interesting to view and listen to.

Re: what you said about the "masculine" stance being a Japanese thing, it might just be the groups you've been watching - BM and AG are both counter-cultural to some extent in this respect. If you watch more mainstream J-pop groups, you'll probably see less of this. At least, that's what I understand...I haven't really gotten into the mainstream groups myself 😄
