I did a very similar thing with my FTX Ravine (UK version of yours) but I mixed a small amount of reverse, something like 5%, to the dig axle, this effectively locks the axle solid against the pull of the driving axle. There is a small clip of it working on my channel. Fantastic little rigs, got to be the most capable crawler for its money (£99)
Nice tip. Still waiting for my Rx but I was wondering if that would work A lot of the moa dig videos Ive seen the back wheels were rolling which kinda defeated the point in a lot of cases
@@elusivemite Im not sure, I have just had a quick look at the custom firmware hack and I guess its possible if it allows some form of mixing. I used a transmitted that uses OpenTX firmware which gives full control over mixing and switching of all channels. I wasnt aware of the hacked firmware for the GT3, will have a better look at some point.
@@bobpattenden don't think it's gonna be too much of an issue. Testing inside last night didn't look promising but on the rocks it's working well. Need to start designing a new chassis. Going to bring it over the front end. Mount the battery over the front wheels. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eDAQ0WiyOSU.html
Do you have any idea what the stock motors are? 380 but what's the turn rating? And with this upgrade, did the motors give you more bottom end torque, or top-end speed? ...or both? I recently changed tires to hyrax 5.75 on the stock rims, and of course, those weak motors are even more noticable. So I know I need to upgrade the motors, and probably reduce the gear ratio, but I have no idea what parts to ask for.
Hi Exo! I’ve been building my own Ridgerock for about a year now. I’ve had these same motors sitting around because i couldn’t find a pinion to fit and when i saw your video i ordered the set you recommended. I’m assuming you had to trim the pinion and motor shaft to fit like i did. The mesh is just not right for me its way too tight. Did you have issues or was it plug and play for you? Do you have a fix for me? I have some free or very cheap tuning suggestions for you. if you would like them, let me know.
Hey man. I did have to trim a little and that motor plate goes in one way to be correct. Make sure the motor wires or tabs aren’t misaligning the motor with pressure making the mesh too tight. I was surprised mine was quiet after this conversion in all honesty.
What radio do you use on the truck? I bought the same things that you posted and would like to know what radio allows 4ws and dig. I'm fairly new to the RC world.
Yesssss, finally the Danchee is back!! I recommend (like someone else said) adding weights to the axles, not the wheels. Avoid stressing the rotating assemblies… ALSO, this thing is built around 2.2s! Get some smaller 2.2 tires (like Losi Rock Claws or Pitbull Braven Berserkers) and you’ll get more axle clearance from those chunky MOA housings. Lower the body by trimming it and you’ll bring the CoG back down a bit after the taller tires. Excited to see you progress this thing!!
@@OGs_Playground once I do pull it off I will I got one to work all I need is two more and I’m waiting on them can we go up to like a 3S or 4S if the metal gears work I’m new to the rc world so I’m learning as I go and can we do faster motors
@@treverhartis1585 I'm just trying to find full axle upgrade replacements. I made the mistake of over upgrading it now the gears can't sustain my 7 pound RR haha. 🙈
Also, it helps immensely to upgrade the rear - only steering arms to metal for more tracking precision. When you’re standing on the rear wheels, it won’t squirm around anymore. Upgrading the front ones is a little sketchy because the plastic c-hubs can break with forward forces. I have seen people take coat hanger rod and put it in the channel in the front plastic steering arms, top and bottom. Wrap it with black tape, invisible. Would you like me to send you some metal steering arms I have that I’m not using? ;)
Wildest danchee build on RU-vid! We took about 5/8 of an inch off the bottom of the body, then used the cutoff piece for a pattern to drill the new body mount holes. This moved the body down and back just a little. Then we trimmed most of the grill area out leaving only the head lights. Now it looks nice a low and the body isn’t flopping around all over the place anymore.
This things really are tough for what they are. I have ran 7" tall super sticky tires and currently run 2.2 super swampers with no foams. The lower links are also easy to upgrade.
I would love to see a bit of detail on the install for the dual ESCs...how they're wired and how the RX/TX is configured. I'd love to do something similar to my kids' ridgerock but I'm not entirely sure about how to go about the wiring.
kinda funny that he is using a pair of 1080 esc's...i know it was to have a dig function, but it is funny because a single 1080 could power both motors on 2s with ease. The ridgerock is nice, but I still miss the RS10xt...it was the same thing but a bit nicer.
Awesome, we got that model here in the UK, its known as the Ftx Ravine, cheap budget crawler (about 120 bucks give or take) but its nice and capable out of the box
@@ExocagedRC I have found one that will work to replace a plastic gear inside I’m waiting on the other to get here thru the mail and I will let you know if they work I blew one out flipping down a hill
I use my Flysky 5 and put the rear steer on one of the upper knobs so I don’t have to toggle steering modes… also have the 380 motors sitting on the bench, just have to find pinions to fit them. They are pressed on the stock motors and not sure if I can just yank them off and press them on the new motors or what?
@@ExocagedRC I know it's been a little while since you dropped this vid, but are those 37t motors a direct replacement fit for the stock ones or did they require any modifications to install? I'm fairly new to crawling and still learning. What advantage over the stock motors do these have?
To solve the camera problem you just need one of the rarest things in the RC crawling world. A woman who enjoys the hobby enough to record. 😂 Love the vids. You think bully V2 axles will fit on the Ridgerock? They should I think. Trying to build a custom comp crawler under 400.
Can I ask what is good radio gear to use for all the switchable steering options , I have radiolink rc6gs but can't get switchable settings have to go through the menu and click away 🤣
@@ExocagedRC would love some more information on this setup. Been years since I've run RC and just getting back into it. Dual esc for dig would be great.
You say at the end of the video you probably shoulda stuck with 25 T motors, just wondering why you think that? Ive got the 37T is my cart so just wondering why you feel the 25s are better? Killer build and glad your doing these videos for newcomers to the hobby like myself.
I got mine couple days days ago n I'm already enjoying my crawler it's stock but looking for different ideas that I can upgrade my danchee what would you recommend?
How did you connect two motors to 1080 esc. ? Because I followed that link and ordered that 1080 esc, and it came with only wire to connect 1 motor, not 2. And the radio please, what type
Try the stock wheels of the gen7 with the deep woods the have a decent amount of weight to them. I just ordered one of these and two e10’s for my kids for Christmas. It’s their first crawler so they can go with me and my ModCat gen7.
