Granny used to allow them to dry in the sun all day to make getting the dirt off easier and then we washed them until there was no more grit and washed clean! I adored the tea even then as a child! Ty for sharing! 🙏
thanks! I love my little bee friends who make honey for my tea. For sure, we have to look out for our little buddies. Only the leaves can be harvested at this time, before they bud; the roots can be harvested any old time, I'm pretty sure. I don't think they get too bitter after blooming.
I highly recommend adding a tiny pinch of powdered cinnamon and a tiny pinch of powdeted aniseed. It really rounds the flavors. You could also make dandelion honey and use that as sweetener
Brilliant video! This spiked up my curiosity about dandelions again, thank you. Although it's called "coffee" because of it's appearance and taste, this is more like a tea made by infusion. Some know it as dandelion root tea. It's absolutely wonderful in terms of medicinal benefit, this little plant might just save us from the worst diseases at some point. Cheers to the dandelions!
Definitely have to wash all that dirt off or it will just taste like fresh ground. btw- Wait until the flowers are gone before you take the plants. Bees will appreciate this.
@@littleme3597 be careful that where you harvest there is no spraying for insects or weeds. I also heard traffic where he harvested, if they are very close to the road they can be contaminated with lead or petroleum from exhaust from vehicles.
@@krisgangwer3796 there are more than enough for the bees, one person can only harvest a small number. The big worry these days is the murder hornets...
Very informative. You get to the point and explain the steps well. I let dandelions grow between the rows in my vegetable garden just for the roots. Because the soil is deep and mostly free of rocks the roots get as big as carrots and up to a foot long. I have been using them like any other root vegetble in stews and as a side dish. Dandelion coffee is something I wanted to try. Now I know how. Coffee from chickory and burdock roots is also on my list. I'll be watching more of your videos.
The Garlic Farm You have peeked my interest! Would love to hear about the flavor it adds to the stew, I would imagine an earthy flavor like potatoes do. And how you prepare them as a side dish? Any tips or recipes you can share would be appreciated. Thank you for sharing this information!!! Many blessings to you!
My Uncle Fabian used to make Dandelion Wine. He was a Happy, Humble, Drunk. His early upbringing was to Work Hard, so he could buy enough booze to stay dizzy. He was a darn good Teacher.....He taught those around him - NOT to live in a trance like him. He ate Dandelion Leaves, just like a Goat..... Never made Dandelion Coffee, though... because THAT MY FRIENDS, would have sobered him up.
@@elenagisa1318 Thank you, Elena! I do remember the recipe did call for oranges and lemons (but only a few) and I had a crock pot of my grandma's to use as well.
You blew my mind! I had no clue you could roast dandelion roots! We ate wild dandelion growing up and use it for when we got stung by nettles but never knew it the roots could be turned into coffee (though in Europe its used for medicinal purposes)
FYI when you boil the coffee it kills the medical side of this root. Keep it under 180 and let it steep for 1 minute . In other words bring the water up to but shy of boil set to the side let steep. ENJOY!! I have been drinking this for just over two week and my liver spots on my arm and hands are fading. Dandelion root detoxes the liver and kidney and it tastes Great!!
maybe boiling it keeps it from acting like a great diuretic, and one doesn't have to keep going to the toilet ;-) I know if I buy dandelion root tea and I brew it like a normal green tea, I have to be careful not to drink more than 2 cups, or it makes me get the runny poops :-( here is a tip for a nice side dish in the spring, take a bunch of fresh open flowers, dip in egg and roll in flower and fry in butter till golden brown, taste a little like fried Morel mushrooms cooked the same way.
Please don't forget: don't pick edible plants from roadsides when foraging. And check if the dandelions have been sprayed with Round Up, or similar. The recommended time to leave them after spraying, is two years.
My martial arts instructor was cured of third-degree lung cancer by a diet of dandelion juice and having all pressure points stimulated daily. It was rough going but he did it with the chiropractors help.
dandelion is the best detox agent on the planet and there are lots of other amazing uses for dandelion. they are so powerful! that's why it's so hard to get rid of them and why big pharma and and monsanto are in bed together. if we used all the plants that we have in nature .. that we've been brainwashed to believe are "weeds" then we wouldn't need pharma drugs.
Hello from Sweden. Found this clip yesterday. Today I made my own coffee and I am sold. Tasted amazing. Will try to make enough to take me though the next winter. Thank you so much. Ove from Sweden
I worked with someone few years ago, she is polish, she brought in older Corning ware stove top coffee pot, when she put the coffee grounds in she cracked an egg in their also. It contained a lot of grounds and the calcium from the shell. That’s how she grew up. Would work for this also.
Thanks. For future videos, you might tell us what quantity of dandelion coffee those roots produced. It looks like maybe a week's worth but I couldn't tell for sure. Great video. Then and also you might talk about how great dandelion is for the body. For one thing it purifies the blood from toxins.
Wash in bucket thoroughly Oven dry at 275 °F for 2.5 hours Oven cook 375 °F for 30 minutes When you're almost done, it'll make the house smell like chocolate. Your "coffee grounds" are finished.
Thank you for sharing this video :) I use dandelions flowers, leaves and roots as a staple diet in my house but never knew about a coffee recipe, maybe I'll try it in the future. (Ps: The Band is one of the greatest bands)
I've been making and drinking tea from the roots. Just over a week now. The inflammation in my back is gone. 1500 mg of grounded dandelion roots twice a day is what i used. Amazing plant. Now on to "purslane" , another super food. Thank you so much for this video. P.s. thank you food and drug administration for keeping all these superfoods from us. Not!
This morning I saw your post.. now I am drinking my super coffee fresh made... Really..is delicious and this taste a little bit spicy is fenomenal .. Thank you for your post.. Greetings from Romania.
Interesting. I haven't tried this but I am going to once the dandelions get a little bigger. Also, you can do the same thing with chickory (which is often used to enhance instant coffee, so it might be more common than using dandelion). The best part is that chickory grows about as rampantly as dandelions - you'll find them in pretty much ever ditch and along every wall and walkway that has sunlight and dirt. I imagine a blend would be really tasty.
Wow! Im a coffee drinker looking for a healthier alternative, and this looks delicious. That rich color and your description of the flavor have sold me. Thanks.
@@dylanhacker7825 It's everything you said it would be. I just drank the last cup of my first batch and I've already begun to dig again. Thanks for the video!
Same here.. just came back from last year to see how long to roast it.. had a batch blended up and was ready to dry it. Man it smells like brownies in my kitchen again😁
I really appreciate you making this awesome video! The being straight forward and candid was lovely. P.S: Not only is it delicious but great for you, check out the benefits yourself, much love.
First time watching this ever. Mr. Poe you did a really good job explaining the process. I actually have quite a few plants out back. Instead of doing dandelion coffee is it pretty much the same process to make tea? I would expect so but perhaps the grounding process much finer. I know you can buy those tea bags on Amazon. Do you have a video for that?
Also worth noting is you want to make sure that the area hasn't been sprayed or treated with any insecticides or herbicides and that you know that the soil is healthy and free of any pollution .
Make friends with dandelion, plantain, yarrow, chickweed, clover, and violets. You automatically add 6 crops to your garden and cut your time spent weeding in half!
Great video! I guess one thing you could mention is that the bitterness that is in the green part of the dandelion isn't found in the roots. I've found that growing my own dandelions from seed in a garden bed gives better results. The plants are in good, loose soil, and well watered. The roots are a bit bigger and easier to process.
I’m right at the end of the process of making it and I’m having my first sips now This tastes great and completely different from any herbs I ever had, it’s more like coffee as you put it This will do wonders to my liver health too! Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to do this. Amazing. Wish I knew this a longtime ago. I heard some people wait until the end of the season, is there a better time to pick dandelion root? Also, should I place a part of the root back in the ground for the next season?
awesome video, I have a lot of dandelions my backyard when I don't mow the lawn, and I'm a daily coffee drinker, right when you said it taste like chocolate and caramel I'm definitely going to try this, this is a very good video very informative thank you,
I too have organic dandelions in my yard, and when I mow I leave an area for the bees and butterflies! I love coffee, so tomorrow, I will be harvesting some roots for coffee, but I am going to let them dry, shake the dried dirt off, then place mine in a big strainer, and spray them with the hose to get the rest of the dirt off. I never put any kind of pesticide in my yard, or on my flowers. I encourage lizards, frogs, spiders and good bugs to live in my yard. Also, the birds, and my two little bantam chickens 🐓🐔 help debug and deworm, plus I get an egg every day from my little hen! I do eat dandelion greens, very good, especially the young, tender leaves; good for salad too.
I use a Hori Hori knife.. They are wonderful for that, among other things.. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, it is a tool from Japan with a 7 in blade.. It has inch and millimeter markings with the sides sharpened one of which is serrated.. I recommend them for all gardeners.. No, I'm not getting a kickback, they are so old there is no patent on them..
Thanks, billy. Great job on the vid. I am so pleased I found it.I can not wait to do it but I assume all of the roasting and boiling will surely deplete the majority of the amazing goodness in the root and I guess those can be utilized in other food processes. The flavor of the drink alone is worth this process, a nice breakfast drink without the caffeine .
For such a long time now that, I have been looking for a good substitute for my coffe habbit. I'm goin to try this nutty/chocolate flavor Dandelion Tea. Great video and thanks!
This is great! I use to drink roasted dandelion tea all the time and spent alot ordering roasted dandelion roots; this video really shows you how to do it yourself. I am very excited to try this. Thanks a whole big bunch! Also, isn't just a plain old tea strainer fine for straining out the roots? I've never seen that Teavana strainer. Huh! Maybe that one is better for the finer material, I'm guessing.
Don't throw away the leaves. They make a good salad or side dish. I just made dandelion salad/side plate using all roots, stems/leaves, and the flower. Blanch 2 minutes, drain and quickly rinse in cold water. Mix with yogurt salad dressing. Delicious!
sweet ive been buying dried dandelion root for a lil over a year now for my liver and i grind mine up into a powder and mix it with turmeric and burdock root for a detox tea every morning. thanks for the video.
Detoxing can be done several different ways, fasting is most beneficial but does not remove any metals that collect. Look into Zeolite drops. Their molecular shape of a hexagon, allures and traps most metals trapped in the vascular system; inside its shape and thus then can be carried out of the system through elimination.
@Ian Terry Roy MacLeod you are so ignorant. Speak for yourself. You know nothing about consciousness and quantum physics. This is your opinions and your understanding. I'm not some tin foil hat and I think your ignorant. I'd love to talk science and philosophy with you any day.
Thanks. This coffee tastes great. You can try too with chicory(cichorium intybus) roots. It tastes great too. You can use the flowers as tea and the leaves in salads, they are a bit bitter tho .
The larger the leaves the stringer the flavor. A dressing of vinegar, bacon grease, sugar and crumbled boiled eggs is really good. Add bit of salt and sugar. Pour hot and wilt leaves
I just watched your video. Thank you for it! It is the most complete one I’ve seen on the whole process. Does it matter what time of year you dig the roots?
Great video, I love checking out home made recipes from the yard like this! I will be digging dandelions tomorrow and giving this a try. I put dandelion greens in my salads and now I have this to try.
I use the dandelion leaves I boil them down and then I take the slush after its bowl and dehydrated and into a powder and then I use a teaspoon with a 8 oz of hot water and I drank it for pain medicine for my back and it works great
if you really want to know how to make cowboy coffee and trail cookin, you gotta check out Kent Rollins man he always makes me real hungry !! real deal cowboy coffee
Been letting my dandelions grow for a bit, now I know what to do with them :) I always liked them anyhow, got a patch with some nice organic foot high grass, gonna go dig me some roots bro! Not going to piss around with a screwdriver, up here in Canada we use a slightly larger tool, we call it shovel :P Nice work on the vid, and good information man, thank you. I have a thought on cleaning the roots, personally I'd power wash them sitting on a screen of some type, man, any sort of dirt is maybe not so good eh?
WTH? So, I missed this growing up in MD! All I remember was picking them and they stunk. And, I always would get stung because the damn bees 🐝 loved them, while we would always run around barefooted! I’m now in Az. I don’t see any around here. I look it up, and it’s also great for cancer! Thank you for sharing ❤️
Oh my goodness!! This was awesome, my friend!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I am all about healing. I share my healing journey here on youtube! This was great info!! Hugs
@@CopperHueCollectionsChippewa in England they call beef broth beef tea. its called coffee bc its similar to coffee and its what people drank in place of during times of war and depression. its just a name ya'll call it what you want
Have you ever seen a movie where they have a guy take, and was experiencing an acid trip? Why does this video look like he is on an acid trip with the background shifting and bending?
the way you prep. the roots is exactly the way that Essiac tea is prepaired, burdoc is a weed like dandilion, rhodadendron root, are a couple of the ingredients, they are done just as you did with the dandilion root, the health benifits are enormous with these in moderation.
My father, from Cassino in Italy, used to do this during ww2 when he had nothing to eat because of the war and this was the best substitute for coffee. Greetings from a Covibastard 19 savaged Italy. For what it's worth.
Chain coffee shops (gas stations) who brew coffee use many “fillers” like this and leaves to boost their bottom line and to deceive the would be coffee buyer/drinker. Those new touch screen coffee machines at Pilot/Flying J are great since it grinds real coffee in front of you and brews it for ya.
I dug up most of my dandelions today, and roasted them. It really did smell like chocolate cake or brownies when it's roasting. I then blended the dried roots in my blender. I put 3 tablespoons of powder in my coffee maker filter, and brewed half a pot. My boyfriend and i each had a cup. I ended up adding more sugar and creamer than what i normally would use in coffee because of a slightly bitter taste. It tastes so good!!! It definitely tastes like chocolate caramel. Next time, I'm thinking of adding a dash of cinnamon. It's delicious!!!! A must try!!!!
Love your music!! Alabama here😁. I drink thistle every mornin 😊. It's what I was raised on. I remember helpiin. MoMA like everything else we did. Sassafras dandelion Polk salad and wild mustards. They all make great brew.
Larry Barbaree It would be interesting info if you shared your knowledge on preparing different plants and roots for tea/coffee. Much healthier than what we consume today. It might have taken more time and effort to prepare but worth its weight in gold. Many blessings to you!
