I'm am Electrician... Man so true. Your Dreams and vision seldom to never have the same value in employees minds. It's all about the growth and experience, which no one can take away from you. Best of luck :)
Surfing *is* professional surfers. That’s what fuels the entire corporate industry. Dane is on the right track but he’d need help from other professional surfers is all. Surfers should sell their own merchandise. Of course there may be clauses in the wsl contracts about this and it’s a complicated topic, but absolutely surfers should bind together and market their own brands, not corporate brands.
If you think it’s hard to manage people that you pay, try managing people that pay you: I’m a college professor and I have to convince kids to do work that they don’t want to do....and they’re paying me! 😂
Okay then... just flipped through the Former merch options... reminds me of Outerknown PRICES! too, too expensive. Is it even American made? Darn, that's a ton of money for stripes on a shirt. God bless.
It's not quite Outerknwn prices but well above normal surf industry rates and no mention of ethical manufacturing or raw materials. www.formermerchandise.com/collections/shop-all
@thebestever475 not even close. Try 3.5 million. His contract ran through the height of the surf brand boom and Quik were at the time the biggest surf company on Earth
I wanted to really like Former but it’s WAY to fucking artsy and emo. If you want to create a brand saying fuck the industry why not just make a brand around a fucking dream lifestyle? Isn’t that the dream of every surfer, skater, snowboarder.... be able to drink a beer and paddle out, take a bong rip on the couch and run to the beach and surf, chillin with friends in the mountains and go tear up the mountain.. make it more of a lifestyle brand. I was never really drawn to professional stuff because it seemed way to cut and dry. Just a thought ...
I would 100% come to Ventura and spend a couple weeks training Dane in business management in exchange for getting to surf a few sessions with him. Hell I'll just come out and do firings for him. I've fired approximately 50 people in my career. I'm still friends with some of them 😄
interesting he says dont hire friends. all our business is with friends, they recommend us etc etc. it has really made our business strong and our first rule of business is no d*ckheads, clients or collegues. maybe dane needs some new friends?
