I think it sounds pretty decent for a $20 dollar amp, an amount that most people spend on fast food or a new shirt. I have this amp and brought it to travel with, used it by the campfire and it didn’t sound as rough as it did in this video.
This one sounds far better than any of the Marshall/fender micro amps they put out. I tried this one out and thought it was pretty good, but not on the level of the VOX mini3 G2, or Laney Mini amps but it's also a fraction of the cost. And it fits easily into a case. These mini amps are sounding so much better than the ones I'd heard when I started playing.
this amp is great. people expect too much from these little amps.. playing the right stuff and mainting volume control is critical for these amps. They take pedals really well, I busked with 2 of these amps at the beach, one for vocals and one for guitar with a tape echo pedal and it had the right amount of sound i like , bit of grain with some tape reverb/delay and the other honeytone took my copperphone really well!! overall it sounded great, no burps or lag, just FAT gain..
The bigger picture here is that it's the best tone that can be had for $21.95. $21.95 worth of fast food burgers can also cause a farting tone as well...the difference is that when the Honeytone farts out....there won't be a smell. Unless you hook up a fuzz pedal. ...then smoke and a smell will occur!
I have one. I strap it in my jeans and play my guitar while walking around the house. Smashed my headstock on the doorframe twice already, planning on selling to ;D
@@GearGasms batteries have a shelf life. never trust a generic self branded battery with anything. I don't mean this in disrespect, i'm an electrical engineer and i would suggest to Dan-o to not include a battery and just include the 9v plug in. Price wise for them and reputation wise it makes more sense. i agree something should work out of the box, but something this demanding on a battery shouldn't be shipped with one, and if it is it should be a name brand battery.
@@GearGasms I gotta agree with Blair Anderson and aaaagaadou on this one. Comparing how your Honeytone sounds compared to others reviewed on RU-vid, it is either factory defective or it more than likely has a dead battery. I've bought brand new DanElectro pedals and had them come with dead batteries. Those thinks are highly suspect, and it certainly sounds like a dead battery to me.
Those are great little amps, I always equate the sound to a Tony Iomi “warning” sound. One problem with the old ones....so b ware...the batt terminal were two prongs, and you could install the 9 volt backwards, turning your amp into a pie. ( plug your electric twanger in to a pie....nothing? All right then)
When I stared learning bass guitar this is the only amp I had, always cranked all the way up. The speaker is blown but it still makes sound, so its what im using to learn electric guitar until i can afford an actual amp. Good little toy for $20 but im def due for an upgrade.
You're probably right. Shame on me for trusting the included battery. I'll do that and check it out again! Would love to have you subscribe if not already! Thanks!
I dunno clean goes by basic strumming and you hit those strings mighty damn hard to make it sound dirty :/ j/s Good product though im highly impressed seems good quality and im glad I watched this just bought one for my camp outs :) Good video
Wanted one for a while and got one for $21 bucks at guitar center. Honestly, it's a great little amp so far. Yeah it's not going to sound like a boss katana or a blackstar, but its great for $21 dollars.
I've got one of these - same colour. I have it sitting on a side table next to the couch plugged into the mains via a 9v DC adaptor. I use it often when I fancy playing a bit of guitar while watching TV. It's no way suitable as a buskers amp as, as you found out, it starts farting as soon as the battery runs down and the battery doesn't last long - you'd be swapping it every couple of songs.
I've been using this amp solely over the past 2 years, mainly because I had no amp and this was literally the cheapest thing I could find. Now it's simply *unbearable* to listen to, and I had to see if it was just my ears getting better and demanding a better tone, or the amp was simply cheap and the parts degrade quickly. This video reminds me just how nice the amp sounded when it was new. Even though it's not amazing by any stretch, it certainly sounds pleasing. Now it just sounds awful to me no matter what setting I turn any knob to, so that leads me to believe these things do not have a particularly long lifespan. They degrade in quality after about a year or two.
Honestly I’m convinced it was the battery that came with it. I want to try to shoot it again as a redemption video. Also I sound bad no matter what I play!
I think as guitarists we are always too critical of ourselves, but u r definitely hindered by this amp, shaken graves plays his acoustic thru it, I think he probably likes the low fi sound, would luv a review with batteries, and maybe an acoustic too
I just got my HoneyTone amp the other day and watched this video before trying it out, after which I had to fight off some buyer's regret. After all, the amp was only about 22 bucks and what can one expect for 22 bucks? Well, I just finished trying it out for the first time just minutes ago, only I used the method that I originally got it for...headphones...and the little tyke sounded MAGNIFICENT. I used my new Epiphone Les Paul Classic Worn (also for the first time) and it paired great with the HoneyTone. Gave me that vintage Jimmy Page sound. Being that it was late at night and I live in an apartment I haven't tried it without headphones but I intended to use it with headphones in the first place so no big deal. And if I should ever clip it to my belt and play it out and about...well...again, it was only about 22 bucks. For anything more than just messing about I'll use my Crate.
I put a nice reverb in front of mine, and it really cleaned ut up nicely...but it is what it is, a fun cheap ampIm gonna mic mine and record some stuff with it...what the hell 21 dollars and a bag of candy from sweetwater..lol...you cant go wrong
These reviews/comments are hilarious. This is the worst sounding amp I’ve ever owned or played on. Absolutely horrible lifeless tone, tinny, thin, total utter piece of unadulterated SHIT. Honeytone? Asstone more like.....pfffft.
Everyone of these I bought, I blew the speaker in less than a week barely playing acoustic guitar. I see them for what they are a, douche bag accessory or a nice shelf piece 😂
Thanks for chiming in! What I do here is sorta garbage but it's almost kinda decent at times! If you would be so charitable and kind as to subscribe, it really helps out more than you know and is absolutely free!
I'm in total disagree with our purists assessment and review of The Honeytone. It's a fantastic little package. I have one with no regrets. It's a practice amp for crying out loud. It's also a great little amp for Harmonica. You can get great nastiness out of it the way a Harmonica should be for The Blues and Rock using an old Green Bullet Microphone run to it. I don't think this fellow is on board with the idea of portable practice amps. Stick to the big amps Bro and leave the practice ones for others.
Plus I think the battery was bad even though it was new. Speaking of new, I was very new at this at the time. It’s much better now if you want to check the newer stuff. I should do a follow up
I used the one they included and metered it before putting it in but no still not have put a different one in. It’s mainly for decoration anyway! Happy Saturday!
First time I've seen one of your vids Alan. LOVE your sense if humor and your ear seems pretty closely matched to mine, so I subscribed. Also loved the Elvis commentary. I was literally LOLing. Checking into this amp for a beginner friend. Read elsewhere that these a prone to falling and break if you breath on them too hard. I think the trip to the carpet was it's big finish. That said, I'm surprised you didn't think to replace the battery. Hope to see more of your vids soon. Ask Mrs Geargasm, too funny.
Thanks for chiming in! What I do here is sorta garbage but it's almost kinda decent at times! If you would be so charitable and kind as to subscribe, it really helps out more than you know and is absolutely free! I'm pretty sure the battery, even though "new" was the culprit. It's just set dressing now anyway. Glad I could give you a chuckle!
@@GearGasms Oh no worries, brother. I subscribed last night after watching. Not a "creator" as they say, but I understand certain actions help out the creators. I spend most days on Twitter trying to get likes and retweets for much the same idea. - Jstn
