DANGANRONPA 1 EXECUTIONS EXPLAINED 

Before anyone asks Blast Off! And The Spears of Gungir are included at the end of the video. I placed them last since I’m sure most of you are more interested in hearing about the other 6 executions mentioned first. Also I apologize for some of the questionable edits in this video. I got hit with a ton of copyright claims and was trying to edit around them. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy the video!

I feel like that Jin Kirigiri's execution could be a symbol of the Academy's fall. Since Jin was the headmaster of Hope's Peak at the time, he went down with the academy. Hope's Peak Academy was a symbol of hope, which could be the rocket blasting off, and the end of Hope's Peak was the despair Junko made, the fall of the rocket. In the end, the Academy was a skeleton of what it use to be.

Some sad facts about kiyotakas reaction to mondos death -it's cannon that no music played during mondos death so all everyone (Besides the audience watching the anime/game) could hear was Kiyotaka screaming and begging for the execution to stop. - Kiyotaka starved himself thinking that monokuma would feed him mondo because as we all know monokuma is a little shit In conclusion: Kiyotaka is best boy and deserved better in the killing game.

The fire truck in celestes execution can also be viewed as reality finally hitting her, as the play is set in an archaic era with queens, but the fire truck was modern.

I always thought the reason why Makoto and Kyoko aren't tied to their chairs in their executions was because by that point they both know that escaping the execution is impossible, and they have no choice but to just sit there and wait for their execution to end.

I heard somewhere that the reason Leon was dragged by a chain to his execution to represent the hatred he now has for baseball, but is being forced to play because he's an ultimate.

This is just how I interpreted it, but I think there’s an extra little wrinkle to Mondo’s execution. I’d always wondered why Monokuma had his little hairdo- just “making fun of it” didn’t sit right with me. I think it was to represent Daiya’s death, where the younger brother drove the older brother to death. I think that’s why he has the hair- Monokuma is supposed to represent Mondo, since he is the smaller one with the lighter hair, and Mondo is supposed to be Daiya, the older brother killed by the younger one. Mondo’s death was reminiscent of his brother’s, likely to make him despair over guilt of Daiya’s death. Maybe this is a stretch, but that’s what it seemed like to me haha

I think that “After School Lesson” was meant to be Junko’s execution since she was the “real” killer in the last case. It’s weird that Makoto and Kirigiri share the same execution and it really does not fit either of them; on the other hand, it perfectly fits Junko’s idea of boredom! It’s also relevant that Junko was actually killed by “After School Lesson” during the Ultimate Punishment

I thought the pause in Junko's execution was to get Junko's hopes up, before quickly dropping on her before she could realize so she wouldn't be able to die with that sweet sweet despair she hoped for. But that was just my idea lol

One theory i've heard about Junko's execution is that she wasnt expecting to die, as backed up by a line during the climax of danganronpa 2 ''Last time I ended up dying''

Danganronpa executions are so weirdly beautiful. They have so much thought put onto it. Even tho it's literally someone dying, I love rewatching them just to see that beautiful animation.

Two things: Regarding Alter Ego's execution, I feel the use of a bulldozer may be a reference to Sakura, and how her motive was having her dojo saved; it's likely the bulldozer was salvaged from what monokuma intended her execution to be Regarding Junko's execution, I didn't think that final moment was supposed to be boredom. I think that at the end, she was confused when the machine paused; instead of feeling despair in her final moments like she would want, she dies confused

Time to take a painful trip down _Memory Lane_

In Jin's execution, theres actually an article of an astronaut falling to Earth. As he was falling he kept cursing the operators. He was reduced to a lump of burnt meat instead of a skeleton. It might also represent how Hopes Peak was such a high standard school only to fall on the hands of their own student.

I think the reason Makoto and Kyoko’s death were both school themed was because they were, in monokumas point of view, trouble makers. Unlike the other executions they weren’t being executed for killing anyone but because Monokuma wanted to punish them for getting too close to solving the mystery of the school and for ruining their “school lives.” I think monokuma wanted to taunt them by saying if they had just played by the rules and stopped poking their noses everywhere they wouldn’t be in “detention” right now.

I never noticed that Mondo’s older brother looks like Taka.

Im surprised you didnt talk about the sad symbolism behind blast off. The reason that he is blastedto the moon and in other games the rocket is seen on the moon is becaus eof his wife. Her full name is unknown, but in Danganronpa Kirigiri her maiden name is revealed to be Uzuchi, which means a "rabbit hammer". In the Japanese culture, there is a well-known story about a rabbit hammering mochi in the moon, and thus her maiden name could be a reference to her husband's space-related execution. Also he was likely burnt into as skeleton not decomposed.

I've always interpreted Junko's Execution as: each one killing one of her personas until there was just "herself" left

I saw a comment forever ago about the blackboard showing the process of conception in After School Lesson, that it was meant to insult Naegi and Kirigiri because of the romantic undertones of their relationship and in each of the execution scenarios, one essentially condemned the other to death.

The intro execution is what got me into the series. It was such an amazing tone setter that I couldn't stop playing through the games one by one after seeing that intro.

ok so I think makoto and kirigiris executions explain that in the end, everting is lost, like kirigiri never would get to end the despair in the killing game and naegi had no future and was killed by the school he loved so much. And they didn’t leave the seats because they got what monokumas lesson, it’s that you can never leave in the end, despair wins.. I think in every execution monokuma teaches something for the class, for mukuros the lesson is that if you disobey the rules, you die, for leons actions have consequences. For mondos it’s, don’t act foolish and let your emotions control you, for celestes it’s that you won’t get what you want in this school of despair, and for alter ego, it’s that you can’t hide stuff from me type stuff. Making leon's execution the very first one in all three games was such a great move/decision. Idk what it is abt his that got me hooked but i still think about it every now and then. Regardless on how good or bad the rest of the executions that follows are, his execution definitely sealed the deal for me

In the final scene of Leon’s execution, the bloody rolling baseball is covered in RED blood. Every other example of blood in Danganroapa is pink. Sorry if I misspelled Danganroapa

I’ve always thought that during the after school lesson execution makoto and kyoko’s faces changed colors because they were trying to suffocate themselves by not breathing so as they wouldn’t be conscious when they were crushed. I think if this would have happened it would’ve caused junko despair to see that an elaborate execution she created did not work as intended that much. This is just my opinion.

The reason Junkos face went stone cold was that the execution was delayed, she was confused because the execution didn't kill her in time

Perhaps since Sakura was meant to kill someone, alter ego’s execution was meant to be for her (as bulldozers are meant To destroy strong things)

I always just sort of assumed that during Mondo's execution, his body contents were separated, leaving behind a small tub of fat, which was tubbed up like butter.

14:53 I actually see this as the one last, tiny bit of regret she actually has. I always saw Junko as kind of a childish maniac, who thinks everything is a good idea until it actually goes horridly wrong, but she has to stand up to it. Personally, I don't think Junko's addiction to despair is as genuine as she makes it sound, and that it's more of a façade she put on her whole life to avoid her crippling boredom. I think Junko's stare upwards is more reminiscent of the idea of punishment as a whole, how an action creates a reaction and that leads to a result, and that those results aren't always a good thing. I think that, in causing the tragedy, she felt invincible, like she couldn't lose, and that even in losing, she'd always make a victory out of it, making this one, solitary moment of genuine fear, where she realises that she's being punished for the despair she caused, and not being rewarded with more despair, it the single moment she might have regretted what she did. Like, the one time she was actually punished for something. I also think the fact that she takes Monokuma with her is something to look at, and that she's wearing her Queenly crown as well. It's like she's taking bits and pieces of herself with her, so that, even though she denies it, she does feel sentimental, and I guess would feel bad if Monokuma lives on without her, even though he kinda does. Lastly, people complain about Junko's lack of motivation, but I think that that's the point; her motivation was that she had none, for anything. Thus the killing game, kind of like her Magnum Opus. She brought bits and pieces of things important to her into that; control, punishment, despair and motivation. In her final punishment, right up until the very, very last second she's smiling like she wanted this, which would be a lie. I think she's using the control she thinks she has (and sort of does) as an escape from the death she's subjecting herself to, and that she could leave any moment she wanted is an indicator of how deluded she is. So, in that last moment, when she realises that she really is gonna die, and when she realises, then, that it's not all 'fun-and-games', is possibly her most important moment. She caused insane pain, suffering and death to the whole world and because of that, her name will ring down in history, but, at the same time, it was all just really because she was bored. She didn't have to do any of that, and the fact that she didn't is why I feel she looks up. One last, tiny moment of "Wait, am I the villain?" mixed with "What have I done?" I kinda really like Junko, she's got a lot to analyse, even in a tiny moment like this.

I always assumed in Mondo's execution the death cage just threw out his dead body and the butter was prepared ahead of time to make it look like he turned into it.

Here's my theory on junko's execution. So, basically I also think that the way she looks happy doing everyone's executions is the just thinking about the despair they felt while experiencing it. But during the 'after school lesson' execution, she actually looked up to see if it would crush her or not. She never saw naegi get crushed by it so she assumed that she wouldn't probably get killed by it specifically. But in that moment, she was crushed. The only moment of her life where she didn't wish of despair, the only time she felt "hope" was ultimately taken away from her. She died of hope, she died not realizing she's getting killed in that moment. It might also parallel with mukuro's death, in which mukuro would never have thought to die in such way. She never thought her sister would betray her. As said with her words; "this... wasn't....supposed.. to... why... me..." in such disbelief and despair, she was betrayed. And junko was betrayed by her own contraption, her own death trap and was ultimately killed. As a result, both of the ultimate despairs died in a way they themselves couldn't have possibly thought of. That's just how I see it tho so don't take it to seriously lol

Well actually, the reason why Mondo turned into butter specifically is that he didn't want to become "soft", I think.

My only question is how did the remnants of hope get Junkos Body Parts?? She was crushed to death, and they couldn't have talent them from Mukuro, cuz Mukuro got exploded

I’m pretty sure there is official art somewhere of all of the DR1 Killer’s bodies in the aftermath of their executions. (Or at least just Leon’s)

I also think that mondos execution is taunting him, marking him out to be a clown, because the cadge of death is a circus act, not much but I found it interesting.

After seeing Leon's execution (I first got introduced to the anime adaptation but only watched the first trial), it took me weeks to recover from it and watch the rest of the gameplay. It really did nail that eerie factor. Honestly, it was a great way to jumpstart the game and set the tone for the entire series.

I haven’t even finished the video, but I wanted to say this(about the executions but mostly 11037’s) I used to think, “Oh baseball man died by baseballs” and that was it. From the foreshadowing on his shirt to his talent and attitude towards baseball, was really fascinating. I feel like you explained so many little things that most of us overlooked and didn’t appreciate. So thank you for that👏👏👏 After I finish this video imma go rewatch all the executions again lol

I think that Junko didn't really die in her last execution, and that is why she looked disappointed. Afterall, there's a plothole in DR2 assuming she was crushed to death.

Uhh I'm pretty sure Junko stopped for a second at the end of her execution to look up because she was wondering why the final slam wasn't coming down, you can even see her eyes go up, just a little bit for comedic effect.

I feel that leon never deserved the execution because he were only protecting himself.

This is about Mondo's execution. So, I just think that maybe the electricity and the speed of the bike caused Friction and if you don't know, friction gives off a burning feeling. Maybe what happened is that there was so much friction that it caused his bones to melt. Thus the Butter -like color. The skin and organs may have also been fused with the melted bones to add flavor to the now "Butter". But that's just my theory and it sounds kinda whack (Even for Danganronpa standards). if y'all have anything to say/criticize then please, go right ahead (just no drama)

Fun fact: I found a fangan where Chapter 5 of that game was a mix of Chapters 4 and 5 of Danganronpa 1. Compared to the canon games this fangan series is brutal. The name is Danganronpa Another Despair Academy, aka DRA1, and it has a much more well-known sequel named SDRA2, which is currently being translated. If you wanna check out the first game, DRA1´s chapter 1 is out in English, but the rest is in Korean, while the 2nd game SDRA2 just finished Chapter 4´s translation on Johnny Youngster´s channel.

Let's face it, the Danganronpa creators are geniuses! (Side note: I read somewhere that during Kyoko's/Makoto's execution that Makoto is actually being taught a Sex Education lesson and Kyoko is being taught a normal lesson. I wanna hear your thoughts, or anyone else's to why this might be.)

One thing that you forgot to mention was the symbolism of “Blast Off.” I personally think that it symbolizes the great things that he wants Hope’s Peak’s Students to reach as ultimates, or “reaching for the stars,” but he crashes down because Junko ruined the world and causes the best of the best to commit murder and cause despair, ruining the point and purpose of Hope’s Peak Academy and the entire premise of ultimates.

I like that Blast Off is the first *and* last execution in the series (I don’t consider K1B0’s rampage and self destruct to really be an execution) and how the two instances have completely opposite effects. When it’s used on Kirigiri, it establishes Monokuma as being in complete control, Jin is bound and struggling, and he’s killed in a way that’s so needlessly elaborate for no other reason than to demonstrate that Monokuma is extremely powerful, and able to do whatever it wants. Conversely, when it’s used on Kaito, the result demonstrates Monokuma *losing* control, not having unmatched power. Kaito isn’t bound in any way, but he doesn’t struggle. When the execution hits it’s apex, what should’ve been the moment of maximum despair, Kaito denies it. By succumbing to his illness at that moment, what was meant to be torture became a gift. He was already dying, Monokuma unintentionally made Kaito’s dream a reality. The ultimate astronaut made it to outer space, and showed that for all Monokuma was capable of, the students were master of their own fate and Monokuma couldn’t force them to give in to despair.

Fun Fact of After-School Lesson - This represents kyoko showing her without her gloves , it was burnt and it shows how kyoko says it as an “after school lesson as a detective”

I was actually really sad when Leon died, he was one of the people there with a cool design

I always thought that Celestia's death being runover by a truck is a reference to the "Isekai Delivery Service" trope. At the last moments before her death, she says she want to be reincarnated-- so it registered to me that the truck also serves as a support to those words

I believe the implication of Jin's execution is that the rocket overheats (you see it turning red) when he reenters the atmosphere and it burns him to death leaving only his skeleton

Leon's execution remains my favorite and has been my favorite since I first saw it. There's just something so intense about it, everything from watching him getting dragged through the hall into the room, to the theme obviously reminiscent of something he hated so much, to the brief moment where he opens his eyes before the barrage of baseballs hits his face, showing he was still alive even at that point. Not to mention the chilling music played behind it as well as the shot of the baseball rolling away smeared with his blood. I wish a few more of the executions showed the setup like Leon's or Celeste's. It gave it that slight edge of something else that made them so memorable to me.

I think Junko looked like that because she thought Alter Ego would save her like he/she did with Makoto. She talks about loving the despair of death, and if it was taken from her right at it's greatest moment, she would lose her mind. Also, at the time I'm writing this, there are 420 comments.

Actually, a few ppl have said that Leon's execution is because he hates baseball and that's why, it's not exactly referencing to the fact that he does play baseball. And then Mondo's execution is because he doesn't like to be known as a softie and so that's why he dies becoming butter. And then Celeste's is because she said that she doesn't want to die in a common way. If u think about it, getting burned and then getting hit by a firetruck is actually really common that it's triggering to some ppl. And so yeah that was all for those 3 executions.

Always fun to hear how these executions are even more brutal then we thought, being made to bring the characters as much despair as possible, great video

Ok my theory of why Makoto and Kyoko didn't move is different for both of them. Ok Makoto, he didn't move because he thought he killed Mukuro so he felt ashamed and decided to not care about his death. Kyoko didn't escape from her execution because she thought that being a detective is the only thing she's good at, and if she can't prove that she's innocent she's doing her work bad. Tell me what you think, I'm mostly sure for Makoto than Kyoko, but ok thank you and have a nice day.

When your actually eating Salsa and see the explanation for Butter Boi’s death: Wait. . .

I always thought that pause before Junko's death was a brief, "wait am I gonna live?" before being crushed, She had sought to inflict despair on others and enjoyed it, and she seemed to enjoy the executions as she went through them so much, she had accepted she would die and just had fun, but that delay gave her a small amount of hope before dashing it, one final despair for the Ultimate Despair

I feel the execution of Alter Ego could also apply to Sakura, since she is supposed to be the one who was executed. I feel it's a reference to fighting games, mostly Street Fighter, bonus levels. As, a lot of fighting games have bonus levels in which one punches a car or other vehicles into oblivion. Now, the fighter and the vehicle would switch places and Sakura would be killed in the same fashion.

I always found it weird that the “afterschool lesson” had Monokuma doing some kind of sex ed lesson. Considering Naegi is the typical anime protag who has 0 thoughts about sexuality and Kirigiri seemed to be so focused on all of these serious matters that building relationships didn’t seem that important to her.
