A brutal bout of storms is causing states of emergency to be declared in parts of New York, Connecticut and Vermont. The heavy rain is causing roadways to collapse and stranding cars in dangerous flash flooding. NBC News’ Emilie Ikeda has the latest.

When I was growing up in VT one winter (I was around 8 years old) we had snow fall of around 6 feet in Burlington. Yet when one looks up the most amount of snow fall it was 2010 at 4 feet (I had already moved by this time). They do not keep good records and seems they just started keeping records.

@@MikeSmith-wr9hg you were 8 years old, I highly doubt you kept an accurate record lol. And they were probably recording the average snowfall for the given area for that storm. I grew up in Etna NH in a one floor home, and there were multiple times where we had so much snow I could reach the roof, but that doesn't mean that everywhere got that much snow. Some places get more, some places get less, that's how storms work.

@@MikeSmith-wr9hgthe gross amount of precipitation isn't necessarily important, but the rate (how much over a given time period, e.g. inches per hour). Considering you were 8, I'm guessing you were a child and don't have complete, accurate information.

Right. As well as how all of these world records of such events all suddenly magically happen in the same decade or two. This happens in Ellicott City MD a lot, rushing water down the main street, cars floating off and they always rebuild, don't know why, seems it would cost more each time and one would learn to go to higher ground but I guess it is because the prices of homes are very low like Rutland VT being about half the price of Burlington and even the property taxes are lower than the rest of VT. But with all this said it still doesn't change the fact that these people are in need of help and this is very sad news.

What? I know Wayne of the movie "shallow hal" and he is from VT Rene Kirby, grew-up with him. Charles Bronson lived there and is now resting in West Windsor cemetery. Ben & Jerry's have you heard of them? I delivered ice-cream with Ben all the time he was smoking some good weed (1978). I walked down Willard Street with Bernie when he was mayor of Burlington smoking some good weed when I was around 19 years old.
