@@putrajurangpati6010 If the train came I would have leaned against the wall and (probably) been fine, haha. Thank you my friend, I will upload another video tomorrow.
This is the second longest railway tunnel in Sri Lanka which was constructed more than hundred years ago by British engineers. Something special in this tunnel, this tunnel connects two different climate zones. When you enter to the tunnel you will experience one climate and once you come out from other end you can experience totally different climate. Sometimes when you enter to the tunnel it's raining heavily and when you come out from other end no rain at all.
@@Dale_Philip You definitely missed that fact about the climate it's really interesting. I am sure you knew the other fact that it was built by British but you din want to bring that up.
@Hawk Who Knows All It looks like there has to always be one asshole who feels he just has to talk shit. Looks like this one is you. As Conor McGregor said; "Who The Fuck is THAT Guy"? As IF you have ever gotten off your couch to do anything but pound on the keyboard like an Orangutan, and get another beer. Oh, and save your next comment. No one gives a shit. cheers Boots Langley La Mesa, ca
@@Dale_Philip British engineers have left their impressive mark on various structures across India as well. One of the reasons i developed a favourable view of the British growing up in India, even though my friends would call me a "dafty"!
15 000 km from British , Hollandis, Portugeesis came to my motherland Sri Lanka and slaved our people and plundered our wealth - those days Sinhala and Tamils dont have political problems - after British left they gave also political problem they divided our country
@Enchanted Forest Thanks for the kind words. I'm still just a beginner with making these videos so hopefully a year or two from now they will be even better to watch. :)
@@buzzniz lucky you were not met with a train. There would be no way back if you meet up with a moving train in the tunnel, as it creates a law pressure region relative to the tunnel surface. Definitely suck in to it..nothing but death penalty. Dale Philip!! you may not try it again...
@@sunethsilva2720 High speed/60-80+mph train? "Maybe". 20mph. not so much/at all. It would/is still be Freaky, but not death defying. Been there. Freaked that!
Seriously almost shit my pants just watching this video! Probably won't do that myself but glad you did it for us viewers! Keep the videos coming, I love them! :)
Dale Philip That was a good idea. I’ve never seen Sri Lanka like that before. Those tunnels were a bit dicey. I figured you lived to tell the tale after seeing the video upload. 😕🙄
Most of the tracks were laid by Scottish engineers in Sri lanka. The Highlands of Sri Lanka have a close connection to Scotland. Try the local saysage called lingus it was made with the haggis in mind .
God blessed you Dale! I was so worry when you were still walking in the tunnel. You made it out just on time. Thank God you safe. And thumb up for your bravery to hike alone. Beautiful view of the mountain and nature, and thank you for this awesome video.👍🤓
I’m currently binge watching your old videos cause I miss watching your videos, and WOW - you’re truly are an amazing and brave man, Dale, with no exaggeration. I doubt any other travelers would do what you did in this video. I really love your courage and bravery for going through the first tunnel. Your spirit is truly very inspiring and admirable! I usually don’t really fancy travel vloggers cause they often only visit the touristy places instead of showing the true beauty of the country, but you Dale is one of a kind. You’ve helped me a lot in 2020 especially during the lockdown period. I felt like I was traveling the world when I watch your vlogs. Your videos are very informative, spontaneous, and beautiful. Thank you so much for being one of the reasons why I got through 2020. You may think that this is weird but your videos really did help me go through 2020. I look forward to be watching more videos from you and I hope that you’ll visit Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia someday and explore the beauty of Malaysia! Cheers! Happy new year!
you read my mind dale! i was noticing you travel 100% alone in all your videos while you see many youtubers who do similar videos as you but they usually meet up with other friends. you are a true brave man and much respect for what you do. love watching your videos. keep up the great work.
Wow I am speechless. It must have felt absolutely invigorating to hike along the railway with those sublime views and splendid greenery. There's something so magical about this place, almost as if you have entered a different time.
@Dale Philip - Great and adventurous trip you had by walking along the railway tracks. Going through that tunnel very bold and at the sametime very dangerous. Be safe my friend.
Totally bonkers, but such a refreshing vlogger! Love how you weren't phased that you were mere minutes away from having to deal with the train in the tunnel! Solo vloggers are the best, as they have the freedom to wander. I really want to do this myself.
Been two years and this video still one of my favorites. Ive been hiking railroads around my area for a while and im convinced that this is the best way to hike.
This is more scary than a horror movies!! I hope u always be okay, keep safe Dale. Really scared when i see you enter the tunnel, its really dangerous!
Wow! This brings back memories of an awesome hike I did almost 20 years ago with some of my crazy friends on the same railway track. We trekked from Haputale to Ohiya . It looks like nothing has changed for all these years apart from those new concrete sleepers on some part of the track. Now I've seen this video I really wanna do that again. 😆
you are perfect symbol to teach sri lankens to how travel sri lanka with low cost and enjoy the nature. thanks for visit sri lanka and please come again. I watched all your videos those are very helpful to anyone travel sri lanka safely. thank you again......
Hi Dale, well , I finally took a breath at 14:34!! FYI; I don't like Dark, Narrow and/or tight spaces (Claustrophobic), Bats (FK Bats) , and with no R leg, I can't run fast!!!!!!!!!!! Back when I was a kid and did hike the train tracks, (literally) putting your ear to the track can alert you to an oncoming train from some distance. I'm not one to ignore adventure though. At your age (mid 20's?) in the mid 70's, I'd been hitchhiking for 10 years, back and forth across the USA, and had started my Motorcycle racing adventures. Ending in my mid 30's, with 8 years of road racing, and finally earning podium finishes (with my own hand built motorcycles) in 500 Grand Prix. You Sir, however, are living life today, as I did then. Good on you. With all the "Snowflakes" in the news and spiting BS all over the place, I was wondering if there were any REAL men (and women) left on the planet. This kind of stuff (ie real life adventure), will define your life. I just wish I'd had the video gear to record my exploits like you are doing now. I, now @ 70 yr old (with 1/2 a million miles of 2 wheeled adventure under my ever expanding belt), despite being disabled, build and ride eBikes/scooters and am learning/ investing in Li-ion battery technology. I "like" Brave Dave, Tobe the Hobo (RIP), and all those who adventure into the great beyond, but you are now my/the NEW Favorite adventurer. Oh, and good instinct with that Sri Lanka Scammer. Just shake him/them off earlier would be my advise. I realize that "in the moment", it's tough to improvise, but when you passed that cop, if you'd said, "please tell this guy to take a hike" (which I bet you'll do next time), you'd have saved yourself more hassle and alerted the cops to that scammer (unless they are part of the scam!) ;-) I've just now liking and subscribing. Just please don't kill yourself for the sake of adventure. Be cool and have fun. cheers Boots Langley La Mesa, Ca PS; with all I said above, my response to those who said what I did was dangerous; So, WTF are YOU going to do, sit on the couch all your life? FK that!!!!!!!!!! I see a long, fun and adventurous life ahead of you Dale. Go for it!!!!!!!
WTF,You were waving at same train which could have ran over u like just before 5 mins.Insane man.U have guts but don't do it again. We love to see u travelling.
Dale, Enjoyed all of your Vlogs. I myself haven't traveled out of Colombo at all even though I've lived in Sri Lanka. Your Vlogs aren't 'Generic Sri Lankan Travel Videos'. You don't spend much and you make the best out of what you have. As a Local traveler I recommend your Vlogs to Sri Lankans who are eager in exploring the country. Hope you return and cover more! Thank You Mate! Cheers!
Dude holy sheep! That tunnel scene really messed up :D Awesome work, mate! Hope I could bump into you someday in some random cities. Thanks for sharing your videos and stories!
I am from Malaysia. Only recently I have discovered your channel. I through out I have been watching you travel in India and Penang. Truly solute you. Thank you so much for your videos. Truly love them and you.
Bro really you are insane to go in that tunnel... Even the locals wouldn't dare to enter there... Hopefully you got out without any injury..... Thank God man... Love from TamilNadu💗
Hi from Spain, I came back couple of weeks ago after doing solo female travel over there and want to go back. I thought next time Im doing that hike! What a good idea!!! but would probably check the train times before crossing that tunnel :D thanks for the inspiration!!!
watching this about 3 yrs late...ur totally bonkers dale ! ive got others in my house hooked onto your videos now ! love your sri lanka series !! u crazy adventurous Scot! 😆😆
This is the video that made you my favorite travel vlogger! Risked meeting a train in the dark tunnel, being the first man to contract coronavirus a year before it became a thing, in a hot climate with no water....all in good humor 😂
Your videos always have an interesting bit. May it be eating kottu, enjoying a wonder bar while watching village women fight, or simply walking through a creepy bat invested tunnel...... Just love it n the additional Scottish accent and the humor makes your very unique.
Man, I needed to fast forward the video while you were walking through that tunnel 😲 hearing the train honk would be the worst nightmare at thar moment weeeeeew. You are amazing, hope to see you travel here in the Philippines soon 😉❤️
Awesome videos Dale and welcome to our island home. You are a grrrreat sport, to enjoy and then showcase to the world our humble nation. You take us to the back of beyond, places I never knew existed. Quite a lot to watch but I am enjoying every video. That tunnel adventure had me in a cold sweat! Champion!
Dale, another wonderful experience!! Felt like I was there! WOW! Thank you for doing this video!! Scenery is insanely good! Commentary the best! You got it all!!
Mate I was scared for you when you went through that tunnel,, omg imagine if you were a bit slower and that bloody train entered the tunnel while you was in there, wow you made my heart beat faster then brother, respect.. all the way from Crewe Cheshire England
I did this train journey this year and had already made my mind up to hike it next year, and then I stumble upon this Vid. ps Many years ago I walked through a train tunnel in London at night time without any light whatsoever, just feeling with my feet. Many manholes and obstacles. once out of the Tunnel I walked a couple hundred yards and came upon another Tunnel and decided to get off the track and use the road
Dale, your energy and adventure is impressive!! Awesome video! I hope you’re recovering from your sprained ankle. We need you back on the road! 😉 Get well soon 😘
Yer man is an absolute legend for doing this epic trek ...mere mortal tourists would have just turned back after seeing no light at the end of the first tunnel and the sound of those bats .
Thank you so much Dale for visiting and promoting the beauty of our motherland . Being a Sri Lankan I feel ashamed of myself for not being able to do what you have been doing. Take care and may the blessings of the triple gem be with you.
I think no is going alone in that Tunnel. we are lucky enough to watch what you have captured by GoPro. Even the train driver got confused seeing a person in this location. That is the most beautiful place where you can directly see Bandarawela town. Anyway tnx for bringing those adventures.
Light at the end of the tunnel! Its a gamble, but if you are willing to dive in the mud its not so bad. I forgot to take water with me in Costa Rica last month, was hiking through the mountainous jungle trying to find my airbnb with 25kg backpack while it was going dark (need to travel lighter). Got to my destination, there was no water in the fridge or shop for 5 miles. Ended up boiling the tap water for a much needed drink. xD Looking forward to the next one!
Yeah thought it was very unlikely to meet a train at that very point but that was the plan. Would have soaked my shoes and bag (because I'd have had to take it off and put down to the side) with disgusting water but sure beats death 😄
Well, the real challenge is from Ohiya to Idalgasinna, which is the next station. 10Km with 14 tunnels. And then you have a rock to do a 1hr hike to climb to the peak. Totally worth the scenic view at the peak.
Didn't know railway hiking is a thing. So interesting. "Pale faced westerners" are so adventurous, especially Scottish people since many of them were railway engineers anyway 🙂
I like your ways,, "I dont need a Tuk Tuk..i have strong legs " 😊😊soo keep walking ,its a TRAVEL . as a sri lankan i like to thank For your Visit in My country... Keep walking man good luck ❤❤❤❤😊
I had the best experiences by walking places and finding random things instead of taking tuk-tuk to go places quickly. And in that part of Sri Lanka it is so very comfortable to walk because of how cool and fresh the air. Really, this is my favourite area in Sri Lanka.
I just found your channel like 3 days ago and I’m in love.. binge watching all vids lol. Please continue making them after the lock down And if you visit India again any sooner please consider northern hill stations too they’re beautiful. Nanital is one of the most beautiful hill station we got!
Wow what a great walk, I was holding my breath through the tunnel thank God you made it ok. I'm enjoying your travels keep the videos coming. The views and waterfall under the bridge was magnificent thank you. 👍👍
That was a good one. That hike through the tunnels and over the bridge was captivating. I would have loved to see what you would have done if a train had come when you were crossing the bridge! Hung from the bars maybe? Lol.
3 year ago i was hiking demodara-alla idalgashinna- pattipola remember correct we in to tunnels train is comeing... tunnel has some hideing place from train ..use it
Wow Dale that was quite a trip. I wish I could have been there to experience that hike. Perhaps I 'll give it a go one day before I pass on to the next life. Thanks again for everything.
Well well that was a close call dale so creepy and you made it through the tunnel just on time 👌 I've done a similar kind of a railway hike to Ella nine arches bridge 😍 PS - Pattipola railway station is the highest railway station in Sri Lanka with an elevation of 1,897.5 m (6,225 ft) high above mean sea level :) Keep the videos coming dale !!
That was scary watching you go through the train tunnel, that was silly scary. I would not go through the tunnel unless I have a flashlight cause I have enough hard time seeing without my glasses lol. I dislike bats, so I would be so freaked out just as you were. I would run through til I see the light at the end of the tunnel lol. But while you were walking I saw a speck of light. You did great though 👍😁 You should always walk with water in a hot country Dale. But you managed, but I wouldn't lol. Great trip 😀 C.R
I brought lots of water but on a 7 hour train journey I drank it all. 😆. You couldn't run through the tunnel because there's no flat ground. I was really going as fast as I could.
