Can you use HBOT indefinitely for the maintenance of health? If so how often should you use it at let's say 1.3 ATA 21% oxygen?

If using a home 1.3 atm chamber with a concentrator streaming O2 into the chamber but without breathing it through a mask do the same safety standards. hold? The concentration of O2 in the chamber would then be greater than it would be if using a mask but less than a medical grade hard chamber. Thanks for any input on this modified approach ( ie, O2 streaming in, no mask). I generally like to bring a book into the chamber with me and also possibly a cell phone ( to be able to call in case of any issues arising).

I would like to know this as well. Home chambers with 90%+ concentration and pressurized chambers, no mask. And what procedures to take for safety, pendingue wrist band? Grounded chamber?
@MarcMERLIN

First, thank you for making this video as there are lots of things to disspell including that oxygen just doens't burn by itself. 3 things I'd love to see in a followup video 1) you said that 21% oxygen at higher pressure is no more bad than 21% at 1 ATM. But, at 2ATM 21%, you have 2X more molecules of O2 per amount of space, which is the same as having 42% O2 at 1 ATM that people consider "somewhat dangerous". So are you sure that 21% at 2 ATA (or even 1.5 ATA) is actually as safe as 21% at 1 ATA? I don't think it is 2) you also said the O2 in the chamber tends to get around 25%. But if I'm getting 96% O2, some leaks directly in the chamber, and some gets exhaled by me as maybe 80% O2 (just made that number up), unless the compressor replaces the chamber air at a high rate, that leakage feels like it will create a higher resulting mix than 25% O2 3) my real worry about higher pressure soft chambers (1.5 to 2.0 ATA) is whether the materials can withstand that higher pressure long term, and the risk of explosive decompresion, which won't kilil me but can't be good for me. I don't think there is a good answer there, but worth mentioning.
@HBOTUSA
@HBOTUSA 2 месяца назад
Yes. 1. there is an increase in molecular number but the percentages are the same (Dalton’s law) might there be a small increase in fire acceleration yes but very minimal. The po2 is raised to .42 in that example by t the percentage is still 21%. Does that make sense ? 2. It’s possible the oxygen get higher. That is why it needs to be measured proper fitting masks should be used and compressors need to run in the flow systems to refresh the air in the chamber. When we measure our o2 percentages we see below 24%. 3. Soft chamber sold in the US cannot reach above 1.3. I agree above that pressure the materials are definitely the concern.
@MarcMERLIN
@MarcMERLIN 2 месяца назад
@@HBOTUSA thanks. 2 details (kinda) 2) thanks for your measurement in your chamber, you're right that a proper mask will leak less, but if you're breathing close to 100% O2, you will still exhale close to 80% O2 in the chamber, no? What keeps the chamber low-ish is the amount of airflow from the compressor keeping the chamber inflated and amount of leakage on the exchaust port. This will be fairly variable depending on the soft chamber 3) soft chamber sold in the US absolutely can reach more than 1.3 ATA, that's a common myth that FDA regulates those chambers and prevents higher pressure ones. I just finished a set of treatments in a 1.5 ATA soft chamber in an approved facility and you may have heard that 2.0 soft chambers are now just coming out, even if they have to prove their durability long term.
@HBOTUSA
@HBOTUSA 2 месяца назад
@@MarcMERLIN so if 9-10 liters of 96% mixes with 100+ liters of 21% and the chamber refreshes itself every 2-3 min the o2% should stay with in range. As far as the chambers go…. That is definitely not a myth. The fda absolutely regulates chambers and 1.3 is definitely the max. I am deeply involved in the regulatory side of things as well and I sure that’s true. I know there are some out there that are exceeding that, but they are not approved chambers and with that typically don’t come with any safety testing that I have ever seen. (Unless you’ve seen something I have not seen).
@MarcMERLIN
@MarcMERLIN 2 месяца назад
@@HBOTUSA thanks for your reply, so first we both agree that safety of soft chambers is a problem and it's a bit of a wild west out there without any real regulation and proper FDA grade safety testing. My ex works in FDA approval of medical devices so while I'm not an expert on the domain, I'm also not completely clueless this on how it works, including how much it cost to get anything approved by the FDA which could be in a million of dollars range for equipment. Since we both know that most HBOT soft chamber treatments are off label, are you able to provide any link or regulation that states that the FDA prevents the use of any soft chamber above 1.3 ata for non-approved uses? As for your question. There are at least two good soft chambers that do 1.5 ata that I trust. One is the oxy revo that is currently being sold by affordable hyperbaric solutions. I am in the process of buying a new 2.0 ata soft chamber, I completely understand that it sounds a little bit scary as it is new, but a few people are already testing it and it seems to be working well so far. Because it does not have one year of use by many customers yet. I cannot however state that it is perfectly safe, long-term yet.

Dr. Sonners - Would you please comment on what are acceptable levels of CO2 in a home chamber and what you need to do to reduce the level if found to be too high? Thanks!
@HBOTUSA
@HBOTUSA 11 месяцев назад
1.5 sev surface equivalent volume. If it’s too high, you can increase the flow rate of the compressor, or vent the chamber periodically to keep the co2 lower.

What pressure (ATA) is recommended for TBI -- say, for something like a mild stroke?
@HBOTUSA
@HBOTUSA 3 года назад
1.3-1.5 seems to be the most effective for post stroke depending on the damage. More severe would benefit from the higher end, less severe the lower end.

Hello. I recently purchased a home chamber. Do you think it is safe to use when alone? Or should I always have someone watching, in case of emergency? Also, I purchased the oxygen concentrator with it. Do I need to breathe the oxygen through nasal tube, or is it ok to just let the oxygen fill the chamber?

do they include CO2 scrubbers as you are rebreathing exhaled CO2 in a closed chamber
@HBOTUSA
@HBOTUSA 24 дня назад
These meaning soft chambers? A good soft chamber will be a flow chamber meaning it will refresh with clean air and cycle out additional co2 build up at a sufficient rate. Not a co2 scrubber

Thank you for answering this question Dr. Sonners. I have a 1.5ATA soft home chamber and a 94% O2 concentrator and have been worrying about this. I'm hoping with a flow of 7L/min i am breathing enough O2 to keep the ambient air O2 percentage below 25%. Can you recommend a cheap way to actually measure the O2 percentage of the air inside the chamber?

@@HBOTUSA I have 2 oxygen generators hooked up, have used like this for over a year, with my 10 yr old.... Seen AMAZING success. With 2 generators the air smells like in the mountains, with only one, it feels stuffy. Is it dangerous to have 2 hooked up? Is it just the flamability? I'd love to understand🙏🙏

We can't give medical advice through RU-vid. However, you need to know that having lung damage (especially pneumothorax/collapsed lung) could be a very serious contraindication to using hyperbaric oxygen therapy. You would want to be cleared by a pulmonologist to make sure that it's safe to go into a chamber once the pneumothorax has healed.

A 100% oxygen chamber seems like it pushes it through all the cells throughout the body and you do not have to just breathe it in. It penetrates your largest organ in the body which is your skin from the outside so how could pure oxygen just from your lungs at a much lower pressure do the same job after 80 minutes?

HBOT can help Afib?
@HBOTUSA
@HBOTUSA Год назад
I'm not aware of any research on HBOT and afib specifically, but we may be able to draw certain conclusions from other research and from HBOT's mechanisms of action. HBOT helps balance the autonomic nervous system, and reduces how hard the heart needs to work during and immediately following sessions. Anecdotally, patients report improvement in symptoms.

What happens to the carbon dioxide that is breathed out when you are in a 100% Hyperbaric Chamber? Or even with an Oxygen Machine with a Face Mask. Doesn't the carbon dioxide start accumulating in the chamber -- diluting the available oxygen?

If you inhale 95% oxygen in the chamber and exhale it into the chamber, then the oxygen level will be within 20 minutes about 30%, if you stay there for an hour the oxygen level will be pretty high. The flammability of anything raises with raising oxygen level and even by 30% it is already very high. Its just about physics so ask and search physical answers to your questions about safety and do not ask manufacturers and sales people.
@HBOTUSA
@HBOTUSA Год назад
Great point and you are absolutely correct. That is why these are designed as flow chambers and flush themselves out with fresh air constantly throughout the entire session. As I am sure you know, according to NFPA 99 chapter 14, the maximum amount of ambient o2 allowed inside and air filled chamber is 23.5%. So of course we monitor our oxygen percentages, we teach other practitioners to monitor their oxygen percentages we make sure our chambers and their chambers all stay within safe limits.
