Acoustic cover of Daniel, which was written by Elton John and his long-time songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. The song was released in 1973. Taupin was inspired to write the lyrics after reading an article about a wounded Vietnam war veteran who wanted to avoid attention when he got back to his home in Texas. Apparently, these details were in the last verse of the original draft, but that verse was cut to shorten the song. You might wonder why he was taking frequent trips to Spain. Because it rhymes with “plane”. Regardless, I’ve always loved the song, even though I just recently discovered what it was about.
