I love how he answered the question about gender in his graphic novels. He didn't stumble all over himself talking about how he loves strong female characters and trys putting them in whenever he can - but instead they spring to life just like all his male characters, based on the people he knows, organically, and are complex because of it.
This was a brilliant interview. Seth is a terrific interlocutor. Having read a lot of Daniel Clowes over the years, now I want to read Seth's work, too.
As a self published Interactive Fiction writer I sell mostly at comic conventions. I feel like I know the fans personally. I meet them. I shake hands. It sells better live than on Amazon.
Especially comic fans... Clowes seems repulsed by most of his fans (who could blame him)... subtitle of the Eightball collection: "maintaining an icy distance between artist and reader since 1989," and forward: "at this point in the game your author[...]cobbled together a small, dedicated readership of vaguely hostile social outcasts."
