I'm actually happy for both. No one thought Dustin would win, so the way the fight went, Dustin's stock didn't drop at all. If anything, it went up. I'm also happy for Makhachev that he's continuing to build his legacy. In the short term, I think his stock does drop since his aura of invincibility has taken a hit (needing to go 4.5 rounds to defeat a striker, getting cut, etc). His performance, I think, elevates Khabib's aura of invincibility and greatness. But the good thing for Islam is that people forget how the actual fights went after a few months, so I think his stock dropping is just a temporary thing...in a year, he's beaten Tsarukyan, most people will just remember his win streak and Dustin's name being on his resume, but will forget how difficult his fight with Dustin really was. So, overall, I think: - Dustin outdid most people's expectations, is going off into the sunset as one of the best lightweights of all time, and one of the best ever to not have an undisputed title. - In the short term, Makhachev's stock may have slightly dropped, but he maintains his win streak and, in the long term, his streak will likely benefit from this win. - Khabib's stock went up.

I just rewatched the fight no commentary and it was 4-0 going into the 5th. You could maybe argue for 3-1 round 4 for Dustin cause of the last minute and a half of the round with the elbows. These judges tonight were on some shit Dustin's TDD was insane and he made Islam bleed profusely for the first time ever in the octagon. Hats off to the diamond, he killed it. And Islam again just showed how he's on a different level... saw the official stats and he outstruck Dustin, that kimura to back transition and the leg whip to guillotine then a d'arce... I'm in awe. He's 100% the best p4p skilled fighter rn and I don't see anyone in the LW division able to beat him. After a defence against Arman, I think he deserves to fight for 170

I didn't agree with Dana's reasoning. JJ beating Cyril Gane is not a real achievement. Gane is a very average fighter. It shows how there is a lack of talent in the HW division when Gane was the champ. Gane has zero grappling skills and his standup is mid. But you can't deny JJ greatness. He is one of the GOATS but not undisputed. He has struggled with a few fighters and to be honest he lost the fight against Reyes. Also he got popped multiple times for PEDs.

Islam definitely had Staph. He didn't kick at all. His Thai clench was impotent and couldn't get the bodylock takedowns with the judo trips. Islam needs to be extra cautious when fighting outside of Abu Dhabi.

Strickland won but he didn't beat Costa. Neither guy wanted to engage, it was clearly the dullest fight on the main card. And the judge that gave it to Costa probably fell asleep during that sissy fight. Let's see both their rankings drop.

Dustin is without doubt one of the toughest most honorable men to ever make the walk; however with that being said his fight style is one of which adds lots of miles rather quickly. I hope to see Dustin to continue making that walk but Dustin has a smart man that has a world of opportunities. Can not hate the man for taking one.

Islam has gotten much better at striking but I think we have to remember that average strikers often look much better than they are when they have an insane threat of takedowns. That threat always limits the opponent's striking in mma even if they are a significantly better striker. This fight was a perfect example of that. In a straight boxing match Dustin would have his way but that's the magic of mma and why we love it. Islam is an ok striker but he's one of the best period when it comes to mma and it has very little to do with striking.

A lot of people just care about winning and not about the fight, performance, and the sport as a whole. That fight was crazy. Those defense and endurance by Poirier was amazing. I think Poirier could have really gotten the win if he had put more force in those punches when Makhachev clinch him and he had 2 good gut shots on Makhachev. He could’ve gotten a good liver shot within those 2 hit and Makhachev would’ve gone down. But it was what it was and what a fight that fight was.

I’m a big fan of Dustin and he’s undoubtedly a legend. But Islam is a complete fighter and number one pound for pound. His striking is much better than who is claimed to be the lightweight goat. And the way he finished Dustin, the whole last sequence was incredible, ankle pick, sweep, to darce choke 🤯. Islam and Dustin saved a lackluster card, salute to them.

Good day DC sir - over the years there was always issues with judging in some fights - The way to resolve that is to implement a 5 judge system (having 5 judges basically) - instead of only 3 judges - Now doing it this way you will most likely get a more accurate result of who the TRUE winner is. So if 1 or 2 judges mess up or judge poorly out of 5 judges then you still have the other 3 judges who may not likely mess up too. So the probability of announcing the TRUE winner is greater. - Now if it's only 3 judges however then that probability is way lower and your left with eyes raised thinking to yourself if he/ she is the TRUE winner or NOT etc. - So having 5 judges your creating a buffer for errors and poor/ bad judging and still get the most likely TRUE winner of the match.

Can't help but feel for Dustin. What a legend. But let's go Islam. What an all time GOAT. Excited to see him move up to 170lbs. Could very well see him doing well there, or even being a triple champ. He could definitely contend with prime GSP, no doubt, and GSP moved up from 170 to win the 185lb belt. They're similar sizes too. GSP has never weighed over 200 and I'd guess Islam walks around at a similar weight. Islam could be even better than Khabib.
