Part 3 of 3. This is a documentary called 'Innocence & Experience:The Making Of The Age of Innocence' that was broadcast on HBO around the time of the release of The Age Of Innocence in 1993. It features interviews with DDL, Martin Scorsese, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona Ryder, as well as members of the film's creative team and Scorsese associates. The quality's not the greatest and it's missing the first couple of minutes, but I felt it was worth posting anyway.:)

Ma che meraviglia era Daniel in questo film?? Non ho mai visto niente di più profondo, tormentato, sensuale di questa fantastica interpretazione che non ti togli più dagli occhi!! D’altronde è Daniel, il più grande in assoluto!!!

I can't believe they barely showed and didn't even mention the street scene with the hundreds of men in bowler hats...the most artistically beautiful scene in the whole movie!

+RACHEL This scene was very beautiful. Can you imagine today a group of men wearing bowler hats? They'd be more apt to be wearing caps turned backwards. I have a bowler hat, but I seldom wear it. There are just no opportunities for middle class men to wear bowler hats. You certainly can't wear it in public. Where? Grocery shopping? Going to the mall? Visiting the dentist? Going to the movies? A man would be laughed at and ridiculed as an elitist and a wealthy snob. It's too bad. Something has been lost in the art of manliness.

I too love that scene. such a beautiful way to demonstrate conformity, and the accompanying music by Enya seals it with poignancy..

For those of you movie puffs, I want to bring your attention to "In the Mood of Love," a Hong Kong movie set to the 1950s by Wong Kar Wai. Its theme is very similar to that of "age of innocence" in that the leads could not express their passion for each other due to social constraints at the time. A beautifully shot movie with superb acting from Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung.

Thank you for this documentary . . . The Book was wonderful and is probably my favorite book. The movie was great, and the ending was/is tormenting ... ohhhhhh, what was the reason why Archer did not go up to Madam Olenska's apartment in Paris. I wish this documentary covered the ending of the movie.

Thank you so much for uploading this. great background on such a masterpiece! ps FYI people can tour her estate in the Berkshires Massachusetts, and her estate is essentially the same style as those in the movie.Edith Wharton's The Mount. Stay at nearby Red Lion Inn. Charming town. Many other sights to see, great estates to tour, Music at Tanglewood, summer stock etc. It's like being back in this time/era!

Thank you for uploading this. I love the film so much and I love extras - besides, it's wonderful to hear Scorcese and Day-Lewis themselves. Will definitely get this on DVD now.

well the book it kind of covered it, that Archer realize that his image of her, was not really her, more like she ment freedom, everything different than the world he was in. But yeah I have to say that is the most agonizing part in any movie or book that I have come across, and I wish they would have went over that part

The notion of two people in love can't be together is tormenting ......

So he's concerned about topping it. I understand why he makes different types of movies. His movies seem sooo different.

What always gets me about what Newland says to Ellen in this scene is what a hypocrite he is, because at the beginning of the film, does he not advise Ellen that for the sake of the family, that she remain in a miserable marriage to the count? Then he tells her in this scene that it was Ellen who told him to carry on with a false life married to May. I don’t remember her ever telling him that, but more that she could not see him being cruel toward May by breaking off his engagement. The only time I remember in this movie that Ellen sought out Newland was when he first meets her, she mentions to him that she will expect him at her home which I believe was for legal advice the next afternoon. Other than that, it is Newland who seeks her out, following her to where she went to get away, offering to pick her up at the train station, going to Washington because he knows she’s there. I don’t believe that Ellen chased him - she had feelings for him, but she didn’t seek him out as he did her.
