Welcome to Part 1 of my video series on the Daniel Defense DD5 AR10 rifle. This video will cover the disassembly of the rifle as well as an overview of the DD5’s internals, operation, and some of the features that make it special.

The exact rifle pictured is a Daniel Defense DD5v1 rifle.
There was a short appearance of a Sig Rattler, XCR-L, and SR25 ECC.
The exact DD5v1 Specs are stated below:
Weight: 8.3lbs empty
Barrel length: 16”
Length with collapsed factory stock was 33.375-37”
Barrel Twist: 1:11
Chamber: 7.62x51mm / .308
Mid length gas system
Colour: Deep Woods Green

This firearm is an AR-15 variant, and as such is a restricted firearm in Canada, requiring a RPAL to acquire.

Thank you for sharing your information. We love the DD5V1 that we have. Right out of the box the gun shot great and then had a qualified armorist speed it up and accurize it. So, with a 6-24 illuminated scope it reaches out and taps very nice for short to long range and has become the favorite #1 shooter here. Great to hear your ideas on these.

Oh, I didn't hear you say knights at first, only heard ecc upper. That's a super slick gun. I'd be interested in a recoil comparison between that and other .308 AR's.

Regarding DD's ball bearing repalcing the standard charging handle's latch, I too do not like the initial resistence detent type systems provide. I prefer Sig's method of using steel roll pins in the upper to engage the latch. I've actually done this myself in standard AR uppers that had worn latch engagement surfaces Edit: I paused the video to write this comment and when I unpaused you immediately brought out the Rattler haha. Nice overview man

You should try the 2A Armament 7.62 titanium regulated BCG when you get a chance. Adjust the gas on the carrier and it shoots like a dream.

Does your chamber also have a weird cutout on the face when looking down the bore? In the 1-3 o’clock position? I have a cutout on my DD5V5 that seems intentional… maybe to bring the brass/copper shavings away from the bore?

Thank you for your very informative discussion on the DD5. I look forward to viewing your following videos on the DD5. Yesterday I purchased the DD5 V4 in 6.5. With little experience in optics I made an impulsive buy on a Leupold Patrol 1.25/4. Do you think 4x is adequate or should I step up to 6x?

Hello I own two DD5 and I use them as DMR I’ve put a 20 MOA Spuhr mount cantilever QD on both. For the optics I’ve the last Schmidt & Bander PM2 5-25x56 on one and a Vortex gen 3 1-10x24 on the other. I am very satisfied by the DD’s and these optics I easily shoot steel gongs at 1000 meters. I didn't see a response not sure if you figured it out but DD's lowers and uppers are proprietary can't use them with any other manufacturers.

this DD is proprietary everything BCG / Upper & Lower

It’s not proprietary, it’s traditional AR-10 style upper. Tell tale is the angular cut to the rear. Most AR-10 are DPMS style uppers with much more rounded rear. DD5 uppers will fit any lower cut for the traditional AR-10 lowers but will not fit the rounder DPMS lowers. Vice versa, an DPMS upper will not fit an AR-10 lower so there is that.

I didnt see the firing pin return spring its commes only on the DD5 is there a reason for that?

It’s to prevent slam fires. But the gun still works without it.

Lots of good info, but didn't really care about your personal issues with putting the wrong ammo in the gun, or when you start talking about other guns (getting off-topic), also complaining about not being a morning person isn't important. Thanks for the video.

omg, dude, what DON'T you own? I love my Rattler but it keyholes every round at 100M with supers.

Does it really? That's too bad. I will have to check mine for the same. I don't think it should be doing that.. Oh there are still plenty of things on my list.

Arm&Gun yeah, even with Underwood supers (titanium tipped). I haven’t tried subs yet.
