Thank you for posting, This is so amazing to see! My grandfather Lawrence owned the grey house after Daniel Farson and I spent every weekend there growing up. Such a magical place.
I met Farson once in a Barnstaple pub; I was rolling, he was tottering. Can't remember too much of our beer-sodden chat but I liked him. This film shows him way ahead in conservation and tradition preservation...what would he think today of the wholesale mad dash to buy up the South West, with St. Ives becoming a second Monte Carlo and many other 'hot spots' falling to the so-called Outsiders?
His book 'Never a normal man' I have read countless times, his father Negely was, like Dan an alcoholic and a writer of repute, Nigely Farsons works included 'Going fishing', The way of the transgressor' and the novel, 'The story of a Lake' in which he described people he knew, his lovers his wife, and various others, he ascribed to them various fictional names but Daniel, and his mother Eve knew to whom he was referring, the greatest insult was dedicating the novel to his wife, a real back-handed compliment.
Was fascinated living in North Devon. My great grandparents, great great grandparents, and great great great grandparents are buried in Georgeham churchyard.
@@cheekyjazzhop I was lucky enough to know Dan well and stayed at his house 'The Grey House' on several occasions. At the time he was writing his first book 'Jack the Ripper' for which I had supplied some new material. The dogs were wonderful and loved the long walks along the sands. Evenings were often very boozy. Happy times.
@@after8mate How lucky for you, he was a truly fascinating and entertaining character with many diverse and interesting friends, a pity he is now relatively unknown.
Who Daniel? That's what they call the Irish who move back to Ireland right? Those annoying subscription cards that used to fall out of magazines? "blow ins"
