Daniel Hoffman - Romanian Hora, Doina, and Din Dobrogea (klezmer fiddle)

A performance from the December 8, 2011 premier of Daniel Hoffman's new deep klezmer fiddle project at the Inbal Theater in Tel Aviv.
This clip starts with a Romanian hora in Em from the Kostakowsky collection, and continues with a doina originally recorded by Leon Ahl circa 1911 in Poland. It continues with a Romanian tune in 9/8 called Din Dobogea. (from Dobrogea, a region in the Eastern part of the country)

Greetings from Northern California. I have been following your klezmer recordings for weeks now and have. Even sharing them with friends. We’re supposed to have a klezmer concert by a San Francisco group for the 45th anniversary of the synagogue in our retirement community of Rossmoor. But no one compares to you!! Joy Danzig

@@jiltedjohn9294I didn't write this, but clearly your Klezmer was inspired (much more theft) by Romanian folklore. BTW, even Israel's national anthem is based on a Romanian folk song. Anyway, it's good that you are so protective of something you "borrowed" from others...

Șchioapă means walking with a limp - as the rhythm suggests :) To me (as a Romanian) klezmer sounds like Romanian music but with a Middle eastern twist. It's like speaking the same language but with a different accent and story.. Well done 😁👍

By the way you may want to change the title, since "din Dobrogea" actually means "from Dobrogea"(a region in Romania at the Black Sea)

This music is close to Jewish soul, there’s a lot of similarity with the Yiddish sounds, being that they’re mostly from Eastern Europe. Slalom to our Jewish friends

Je viens de me trouver un livret de partitions klezmer pour violon avec accompagnement piano mais il est possible de jouer solo écrit en yiddish. « Klezmer fiddler « et pour m’imprégner j’écoute Daniel Hoffman, Sophie Solomon et d’autres violonistes juifs dont le plus grand : Itzhak Perlman à Cracovie

Can somebody tell me what the noise at 6:39 is? It sounds like somebody sniffing to the beat but I can't see which instrument is making that noise.

that was indeed my nose in the break, but I think you're hearing the high hat of the drums throughout that section that makes a similar sound.

@@DanielHoffmanViolinist Ahh thank you 😅 I kept listening to it and I never thought to actually look for somebody sniffing. It actually works incredibly well with the energy of the whole piece I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what the sound was. Thanks again!
