This is a beautiful song based on the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi. I have the prayer posted on my computer, and listen to this song very frequently. Let us pray that the world will live in peace one day and that we will love each other as brothers & sisters should.
The prayer is very beautiful, but it is NOT of St. Francis of Assisi (a common error). It appeared for the first time in Rome before the beginning of the 1914 war. Perhaps the real author may be the Pope St. Pius X, who tried to stop the war and died of sorrow one month after the outbreak of the war.

As we pass through life we need our friends around us, that IS life! When we pass away they carry us with them further into life! It is what makes us human!
This Hymn is sang every year at our Rememberance Day church service. One year while sing it I had tears running down my face. After the service I was approached by a Navel officer who asked me why I was crying I told him I'm not a religious person but this makes me cry as I remembering all the people that faught to keep me a "free" person.
This was played at my Nans funeral today, as the curtains circled around the casket; the last time I saw her. Whenever I hear it, I will be reminded of her.

I think the simple message here is to love God, love Jesus and to love each other and to treat others with dignity and respect. Do you really think God is bothered what you call yourself and what you are seen to be and do? God is served by the love we show to others and the good we do for all our neighbours each day
