Hi Daniel, I have a badly deformed 1st finger nail as a result of a crushing injury when young. I can kind of pick with the flesh of the finger, but together with 40 years of nail biting, my fingers and nails are by no means ideal for uke, which I love playing. I think this video really gives me hope that I can become a competent player able to play decent music. Thanks!

Watched many videos about picking... and you took it to a new level with actually showing how to hold it.. eg how to grab it & where to put your thumb across the pick... this was wonderful... Other instructors haven't given that level of instruction.. All of a sudden the pick wasn't slipping in my fingers and getting caught in the strings.. This makes the entire experience more enjoyable.. and gives it potential for future learning... thx! Have subscribed & will look at more videos

I play both classical and rock guitar etc so I can play with both fingers or pick easily. There are things that you can do with one that you can't do without the other so both methods are valid. Nice video and good points though. :)

Never comfortable using a pick. I always end up flinging it aside and just using my fingers. But i’ll give this another try, this time i’ll make an effort to keep at it.

I have thumb issues and started using a thumb pick. It avoids having to learn to hold a flat pick.

I play piano, so I'm thinking finger picking really isn't an option for me since my nails are cut super short? I tried playing with just my fingertips before, but the volume was very soft.

It's not just you! Some players love 'em, some can't stand them. When it comes to using picks on ukulele, it's really about what works for you. It might even change between songs or styles of music, too. Here's an article that goes into more detail: www.ukulelemag.com/stories/picks-ukulele

I'ts argued by some that the 'plastic' pick can damage the ukulele.

A fingernail can scratch a pick but a pick can't scratch a nail. Think about it.
