Daniil is one of the very best of the younger pianists today. He instills passion into everything he plays and he strives for absolute perfection and achieves it!
Schumann wrote this for his wife Clara who at the time was a somewhat notable pianist. The original version was a set of vocal art songs dedicated to his beloved wife to be and was transcribed into a piano solo by Franz Liszt. He really has a great singing tone is his playing….bravo!!!!
Ooooh!
Of all the pianists I heard play this beautiful music he is the one who has more soul and emotion. I just loved it.How I wish I could hear him in person.
I'm allways coming back to This so lovely Piece. Again and again ! In Words I can't Express my Feelings about. Love to You Irina. 🌷🌿🌷🌿🌷🌿🌷🌿🌷🌿
Du meine Seele, du mein Herz, Du meine Wonn', o du mein Schmerz, Du meine Welt, in der ich lebe, Mein Himmel du, darein ich schwebe, O du mein Grab, in das hinab Ich ewig meinen Kummer gab! Du bist die Ruh, du bist der Frieden, Du bist vom Himmel mir beschieden. Dass du mich liebst, macht mich mir wert, Dein Blick hat mich vor mir verklärt, Du hebst mich liebend über mich, Mein guter Geist, mein bess'res Ich!
You my soul, you my heart, You my rapture, O you my pain, You my world in which I live, My heaven you, to which I aspire, O you my grave, into which My grief forever I've consigned! You are repose, you are peace, You are bestowed on me from heaven. Your love for me gives me my worth, Your eyes transfigure me in mine, You raise me lovingly above myself, My guardian angel, my better self!
Vielen Dank ! Daniil Trifonov kennt diesen Text.
Nailed it! This piece of music has an ironic history. Because Schumann's piano teacher (Friedrick Weick) objected to his marriage proposal to his daughter Clara, the couple were forced to take the matter to court. It was Franz Liszt who spoke for the character of Schumann. This song, or piece, was originally a wedding gift to his new wife. Later on, Clara strongly objected to this version and to Franz Liszt, also.
you are right. the original is the song (Lied) which is much more intimate than the extroverted Liszt only piano Version The song is a confession of love, Liszt's Version is somewhat triumphant, which is not adequate
@@hellothere6940 Let's say there are people showing off their love. And then there are people who treat it as a private gift, intended only for the beloved one. Liszt is certainly showing off to an extend. All the added virtuosity does not add to love itself. My heart belongs more to Schumann than it does to Liszt.
I continue to listen to Daniil's performance of "Widmung" frequently, and never tire of it. His sound sparkles and glistens with the r.h. arpeggios, but the melody shines through in the l.h. But his total sound is expansive, but never percussive or brittle. Similar to running one's fingers over velvet. This piece fits trifonov like a glove. I have ordered the score and look forward to begin learning it very soon. May Daniil have a long and prosperous concert career!
Absolutely mesmerizing. Almost brought me to tears. He is in the stratosphere with Rachmaninoff and Horowitz. Trifonov's playing of Widmung surpasses, what I thought to be incomparable, Van Cliburn.
Buniatishvili does not belong in the 'group' of Trifonov and Beatrice Rana. They, and a few others in their age group are heads and shoulders above her (KB).
above , very far from technic of the Key-board , does this pianist understand what he is playing ? strange feeling when j look at him so , j listen only D Trifo , listen
The hand gestures alone are enough to make this unwatchable for me. If I had to chose one version for my Desert Island I'd be more than happy to listen to the sublime Yeol Eum Son play this until the day I was rescued.
it's a good performance, as long as you don't watch him, in which case you might find yourself laughing at his silly grinning/grimacing or whatever you would call it. he appears to be in great pain.
He is quite good, but this is too slushy. The best of a bad bunch. Sounds more like masturbation than dedication. When is someone going to play this more honestly and with a pure heart? I can see that I am going to have to record this myself. Of course, there may be people who will not like my interpretation...
his pianism is very accomplished, but I'm really not thrilled about his musicality here. listen to arthur rubinstein, van cliburn, earl wild, wilhelm backhaus, etc to get the full musical picture
Liszt was a very generous man aside from his genius, as is Trifonov. Liszt's transcriptions -- including all of the symphonies of Beethoven -- are works of astonishing perfection. Clara Schumann on the other hand was a terrible person -- she wrote nothing of merit -- and history records only her bitterness and resentment of those with vastly greater talents than her own. She probably drove her husband into the grave.
One of the better performances of Widmung on YT (and there are many excellent ones to name! Van Cliburn's my fav interpretation). What stands out is how legato the phrases sound and especially in between the phrases, so it sounds like one long phrase (in a good sense of the word). The forward pull creating the everlasting tension.
I was impressed with the Kissin Yundi Li versions but this one truly won my heart. The last dramatic section with his legato phrasing seemed effortless. You could really feel the spirit of Schumann and Liszt in his hands with this legendary performance
Walter Theus I don’t think he knows the German lyrics. He’s just kinda opening his mouth to replicate the sound of singing but on the piano. Still an amazing rendition of the piece!
