I am Danish and watched this sublime performance by the Danish symphony orchestra first time when they approached 100.000 views and then thought to myself that the entire world really should watch it. It makes me so happy that now over 125 million people have watched it and have been able to share the experience. Great composition. performed to perfection, filmed with thought and understanding, great sound job and all done in one take in front of a live audience. This orchestra are financed by the Danish taxpayers and I am thus also happy to have chipped in. The internet have brought us good, bad and ugly stuff. This are good gold! Connecting people in a 5 minute shared experience that transcends borders! May 125 million more see it soon.

It is DR (Denmarks Radio), they do have Television department too, and they have filmed the orchestra hundred of times since the 50s. DR started with radio, then came TV, but they still kept the name Danmarks Radio. DR Symphony Orchestra is taxpayer funded and their purpose is to deliver music to DR's Radio and TV productions, but also to the people and not only the hardcore elite classic audience, but everybody. Sometimes they arrange concerts for kids and teaching them about the trade and instruments. DR also have a Big Band, same professionalism, you can even meet the two orchestras in the same concert. If I remember right, they have 6 or 7 choirs, from small kids (6-8 years) choir up to the big choir we see here in this concert. The Soprano Christine Nonbo Andersen, is a product of DR's choirs, she started as 12-year-old, advanced through several choirs. Then she went to music conservatory in Copenhagen, after graduation DR hired her as a Soprano in 2017. This concert, you just saw, was her first solo. I believe she did fine. Tuva Semmingsen is freelance, so you can hire her for a concert. If you need a place to put up your concert, you can rent the concert house too. 1800 seats for spectators or just one of the minor studios, there are 4 of them. The Orchestra was "born" on the 28th of October 1925!.......... So next year is the 100th birthday and knowing DR (I am a Dane), they won't waste a good celebration. Maybe something big is coming, who knows? Keep an eye on their homepage.

The first time I saw and heard the Soprano sing, the angel in the upper balcony, she caused me to tear up, and get chills. 3 years later, I'm still effected by Christine Nonbo Andersen singing in this video. This was also the first time she had done a movie score, and it catapulted her into world fame afterwards, and now with over 125 Million Views. Incredible! Thanks for reviewing.

Morricone didn't have much of a budget for this score so he wrote it around the instruments, and voices, that he could get, and the result was a masterpiece. In fact, the whole movie was on a shoestring budget. I saw an interview of Clint Eastwood discussing his part in the movie. The outfit he wore in the movie, he had to furnish himself. He said he went to a charity store where clothes were donated and created the outfit from clothes he bought there. He bought the cheapest cigars he could find in California, cut them in half, and used them in the movie. The spaghetti westerns created by Sergio Leone were films with an Italian director and composer, financed by Germans, filmed in Spain with an American leading star. Clint spoke no Italian and Sergio spoke no English, and yet they still created stellar films.

Some songs by Ennio Morricone that you should listen to. I can't tell you which one I prefer. "Rabbia e Tarantella" (used from Tarantino in Inglourious Basterds) "Chi Mai". (in the version used by the film "Le professionnel") "Il Mucchio selvaggio" (from the movie My Name is Nobody) "Ancora Qui" sung by Elisa, also author of the text (used in Tarantino's Django U.) "The Great Silence - Restless" (From the film "The Great Silence") "Jill's Theme (From "Once Upon a Time in the West) "Gabriel's Oboe" (From The Mission) "Deborah's Theme" (From Once upon a Time in America)

Good job Nick and Lex. Knew you would like. If response good then will do a whole marathon of DNSO. The conductor Sarah Hicks is the conductor for the Minnesota Symphony. She gets many worldwide requests for guest conductor. The waa waa singer ,Tuva Semmingson, is now known as such (the waa waa girl), This was soprano Christine Nonbo Andersen's first ever solo. In an interview she stated she gets stopped in streets and airports all time based off this video. Back end of August last year the DNSO was performing this and about 20 other movie musical scores in Copenhagen. Sadly, my passport was expired or would have spent weekend in Denmark.

Talk about putting goose bumps on your goose bumps. The whole performance was amazing. The English Horn, was without a doubt a highlight of the all the instruments in the orchestra, but the balance of the entire orchestra, where you could pick one section out of the whole and yet each section of instruments neither overpowered the sound of the others. Lex's comment about how much work goes into these orchestral movie scores is interesting. If you want to see an example of an orchstral group working out it's collective skin, consider cartoon music. In the UK there are a series of orchestral concerts performed over the summer months called "The Proms" and in one The John Wilson Orchestra performed a medley of music from classic Tom & Jerry cartoons and i was utterly open-mouthed at how intricate and complex it was - and that the orchestra carried it off with such style (and enjoyment it seemed). The video can be found on RU-vid.

The best part of that movie is the union captain at the bridge. Paraphrasing... drunk soldiers win wars. That always stuck with me. Of course he gets drunk and then gets killed leading a charge 😮

Great reaction 👍 In regards to Metallica using The Good, The Bad and The Ugly as their opener, they have done that at every single concert since 1983 long before working with Michael Kamen (RIP)

the oboe youre talking about is called an enlish horn, it has a deeper sound than a smaller oboe.

I was an 8 years old kid in Montreal in the 80's and I've listened to this album so many times but couldn't understand all the mechanics, timing of this whole masterpiece. The movie was so boring to me because of It's lenght between shots and scenes. I was 8 so please make this faster my mind was asking but @ that time, I didn't know I was much more of a listener than a viewer and it never stopped. More than 30 years in DJing proves it all that I still am a listener more than a viewer. I've tried our high school harmony in the 90's but my teacher forced me to play the french horn but It wasn't meant for me at al. My dad's been in the marching band in the army in 67 who played percussion so I wanted the drum and the teacher always refused. I've figured in the harmony but not playing that much but I knew how to read music and I understand all the efforts and everyone's implication. This is why if you go back to 08:32, you see the eye contact between the oboe player and Mrs Andersen to make sure she's there and ready. Simple eye contact, great great great masterpiece.

The soloist at 8:05 is playing an english horn. Like the oboe, it is a double reed instrument. English horn is a little longer; mouthpiece is bent at an angle whereas the oboe mouthpiece is straight.

If any music causes an emotional response it is truly touching you at your core. One does not truly hear the music when watching the movie it is from it is in the background. Once it is moved to the forefront and played by a full orchestra, not the smaller size orchestra Ennio Morricone had, can it be truly enjoyed in all of it's majesty. Causing us to have an emotional response to all parts of it, from the chills one gets to the tears that may fall from our eyes, this is emotional music at it's finest. A little known fact about Ennio Morricone he also wrote the soundtrack for the movie The Untouchables in 1987 earning him a nomination for the Academy Award for that sound track. He was awarded an honorary Oscar in 2007, but won his first Oscar in 2016 for the movie Hateful Eight for best score.

SO GLAD to SEE you again Lex!!! Been awhile! I love the Danish National Symphony Orchestra! I was surprised that you didn't notice the "hanging man" there in the concert. Other reactors always give a shocked look, and it's really funny. That was an ENGLISH HORN, not an oboe. They both have a similar sound. Every time I hear THE ECSTASY OF GOLD" I see the MODELO BEER commercial which has been using that piece in their ads for years now. I was not familiar with it because I hadn't seen "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" BEFORE those Modelo Beer commercials started using "The Ecstasy of Gold."

I think most American reactors react to that, because of how much a part of their history it is. For Europeans, a hanging man is more an iconography of the western and not something we have experience with ourselves.

@tomdouge6618 0 seconds ago Enrico Morricone said how he was limited by the budget he had to make the music for the Spaghetti Westerns and he had to improvise on the arrangement to make his melodies seem more epic. No one has EVER made a better use of arrangement. All arrangements should be/must be measured against this definitive masterpiece!

Every time I see someone react to this, which is often, I tell them that the soundtracks to the other two movies in the series, "A Fistful of Dollars," and "For a Few Dollars More" have also been done by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and are every bit as good. I've been making that comment for years. To the present moment, no reactor has ever taken me up on it.

It's the DR1 (and National) Symphony Orchestra, which is the Danish equivalent to the English BBC1 Symphony Orchestra, so their mission is not to push or provide a special brand in "taste" of music, but all about providing top quality public service to make all who watch and listen, and not least children and younger people get a taste for this kind of symphony orchestra music, also for educational purpose and to "nurture" their development.
