A cute scene between Danny Kaye (Professor Hobart Frisbee) and Virginia Mayo (Honey Swanson) in the movie "A Song is Born" (1948), their 5th movie together. I adore this onscreen couple :-)
I adore Danny Kaye and this scene is no exception:)) I thought this was very cute and original and very funny:)) already watched it many times! So addicting;)
This was a VERY difficult movie for Danny, as he was temporarily separated from his wife, Sylvia Fine, during the production. He was on and off his psychiatrist's couch for most of the filming, that's how screwed up he was. One reason behind the separation was because Sylvia was unable to convince producer Sam Goldwyn to use new comedy material for Danny....because the cheap bastard wouldn't meet her price. So, unlike his previous films, no "funny routines" for Danny.....who stood in for Gary Cooper, as Virginia was supposed to be Barbara Stanwyck. Goldwyn wanted this to be a straight musical remake of "Ball of Fire" (1941) [starring Gary and Barbara]. He showed the original film to Virginia over and over until she learned Barbara's part "by rote". He even got Howard Hawks, the original director, to direct this version. Not only did Hawks NEVER see the finished film, he vowed never to work for Goldwyn again {he didn't}. Then there was a matter of the "jam sessions" featuring Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, et. al. Goldwyn told Hawks to be sure "not to have the black and white musicians play too close to each other", as he didn't want to jeopardize the film's bookings in the South. Despite ALL THIS, the film was most enjoyable.......
