I'm on a Danny Mac binge tonight, and it's glorious. What a fabulous dancer he is and Oti didn't give him any easy choreograpy. My winners then, my winners now.
The best couple EVER!! no one can touch Danny Mac and Oti and no one ever gives him any credit but I have seen him live and he is so charismatic I love watching him dance and act too !
I think this poor boy is going to have to pull a rabbit out of a hat, levitate on the dance floor, while still looking absolutely FLAWLESS with Oti for the judges to score him that long-awaited (I think we want it more than him at this point) 10!!! Makes me think even more that he's been under scored the previous weeks.
He might have to raise Gene Kelly AND Fred Astaire from the dead while he's at it. How that quickstep last week didn't receive even one 10 is beyond me.
Tracey-Ann Wisdom right!! I have to say this is my least fav dance(still really enjoyed it) but I think it's because I've loved all the others so much. That quickstep-wooooow!!
Rumbas are always kind of cringe-y to me, no matter who's dancing, so it's my least fav too. That said, he had great hip movement, but his hands were kinda off. Ian had said on ITT that he needed to work on having resistance in his arm movement, or something like that.
😂😂😂💯💯 Me lol. Both Kelvin’s and Danny’s rumba should have gotten all 10s. :) I will say that I like Oti’s and Kelvin’s rumba a little better than I like hers and Danny’s. Danny’s and Otis’ rumba is still one of my top favorites rumbas I have ever seen on any version of DWTS here on RU-vid. Kelvin is such a surprise and he is my favorite to win
Loved Oti and DM so much..They should have raised the glitterball that year..But..Kelvin and Oti doing the rumba...Hot hot hot!!! I am definately here after that rumba.....
@@jeannetteburgess2745 lol yep. Idk if Kelvin had dance experience but I dont care if he does. He is my favorite contestant so far this series. I do see the other celebrities improving though
Oti's choreography is utterly stunning every single week, I'm so glad we're getting to see how creative she is and yet how traditional she can keep the dances. Also, Danny is by far the best male celebrity on the show at the moment (Ore is a very Very close second) and I think he's being severely undermarked, This was a clear 10!
Just PLAY ACTING, I no but.. I thut they were gunna kiss @ the end. I was thinking.. Oh, no.. Please... Not here, not now. They seemed in a world of their own,
Danny is a better dancer than kelvin and overall a better performer. The judges were definitely more strict with scoring a couple of years ago compared to now if Danny was in strictly this year this dance would of for sure gotten 10s.
Kelvin did a much better rumba, sorry. This had more steps, but completely lost the rumba feel. Kelvin was grounded, masculine and passionate. I felt no chemistry between Danny and oti here and he dances quite clinically. It's clean but I don't feel his movement. It's also way too balletic for me and loses the beauty of the Cuban motion.
I agree I think up and including 2016 the judges were not allowed to give 10 early on in the competition . if Danny danced with OTI now he would have gotten 10s from week 3 quick step. and jay and Aliona's jive week 3 should have been 10s also.
No it wouldn't, the choreo's all wrong for the song for a start and I never say that about Oti but she overdid it with the steps, plus which I honestly do a Craig recoil when he just throws his arm out at the beginning. He really needed to soften it up a bit.
To me this was conclusively the best dance of the night. He nails it every week,as does Louise but not to as high a standard. They are a mesmerising couple, the partnership works on so many levels.
I love that move 0:50- 0:54 where Oti straddles Danny's leg and then brings her own legs right round. Not seen that one before. Sexy without being sleazy.
Wow, love these two. For me, this is who I'm most excited to see each week. What a dance and what a team. Really happy that Oti gets to shine this year, she's phenomenal!
It just hit me why I LOVE re-watching these videos: it's something of beauty to see teacher and student equal in skill. Yes, she is still the teacher but to get your student to the point that, to the untrained eye, the difference in skill is imperceptible is something that can only be described as joyous. As a teacher, I've not experienced that...I must be crap! *sigh*
I’ve only just found this show today and when I saw Oti and Danny dance I couldn’t tell who was the professional until I googled them. Amazing together.
Beautiful!!! I like that he remained masculine throughout it, some of the pros turn a bit camp whilst doing a rumba, lol. Totally agree that he's so under marked, probably the judges being harsher on him because he's SO good, yet they're still over generous to other contestants.
I agree he has been under marked every week and I think this will work in his favour. The viewers are not stupid and its their votes that count more than the judges.
I actually thought it was better than Jay's Rumba from last year and that one got 10's. Maybe it's personal preference.. How this didn't get as high or higher than Ore I will never know but I guess they just want to level the playing field.. This was outstanding. Do hope he gets another ballroom dance next week (preferably Tango or American Smooth) because his ballroom is superb.
I vote for the tango! I've been anxiously waiting for them to get to do the Argentine tango, because I know they'll scorch the dance floor and singe some eyebrows. But I'll take a ballroom tango if I get it.
So, I went and re-watched Jay's rumba. The shaping and movement of his arms were top notch. Danny's... not so much. Lol! He just needs to work on his free arm (or whatever the proper dance term is) when doing Latin numbers. I noticed it in his cha cha too.
I would say in terms of Danny nailing the rumba basics, he actually surpassed Jay in the rumba, but the over-exaggeration of hitting the lines with 'musculinity' as instructed by Oti was over-egged. Thus, overall, not ten-worthy alas! So close, yet so far!
Scd Observer Agonisingly close. I agree with Bruno that I'd love to see it again (not in a dance-off though!) so he can just correct those little errors.
I was reduced to tears. I loved this dance and thought it was the best of the night. I was furious at the scoring. Considering the number of mistakes Ore made, how do the judges justify marking him higher than Danny? I don't like judges playing their little games each week. And that's what this quartet is doing. Shame on them.
DWTS in the U. S. Needs to look at These dances and get back to the basics. I really enjoy strictly and they truly dance. It’s not just for the production numbers.
A true shame they didn't get this later in the competition. Would have loved to see them dance the Rumba after having more dance experience - but regardless, a really clean dance. Certain aspects could have been better, but it definitely was partially due to it being only Week 5. A 9 from me, but I'm not expecting too much from the judges.
Most Rumbas are forgettable, but there are some which stand out - here's a short list. Cherie Lunghi & James Jordan - Songbird Rachel Stevens & Vincent Simone - You Do Something To Me. Kara Tointon & Artem Chigvintsev - You Do Something To Me. Katie Derham & Anton Du Beke - Never, Never, Never. Jay McGuinness & Aliona Vilani - Falling Slowly. AND NOW! Danny Mac & Oti Mabuse - How Will I Know.
Scd Observer I personally got a major cringe factor from Matt Baker's Rumba, although his other Latin dances were excellent - I suppose these things do often come down to personal taste..
***** Perhaps. LOL. He was the first male celeb that I feel had almost cracked the techniques after Colin Jackson. Gethin's rumba was watchable, but his techniques weren't good... Matt di Angelo's Christmas Rumba was very good too much it's not the main show dance so I often discount it in the list...
Rumba is a hard dance. Especially for a male. Not my favourite one I have to say. But this guy is so under marked its unreal. Bet when Ore does a Rumba he will get 10's. No way did his waltz deserve 4 9's. Biased scoring going on here.
It's not biased. They're deliberately creating competition between Ore and Danny so that Danny doesn't dominate the leaderboard every week (which will cause him to lose)
Ore did a terrible cha-cha. I don't have any hopes of him doing even a decent rumba. It's probably be his 'worst' dance and may even see him in the bottom two if he attempts rumba late in the competition...
The judges are being so harsh on Danny. I know he's a ringer, I know he has a dance background as part of his musical theatre training etc etc - but c'mon! He's levels above the others, even Louise (who frankly looks uncomfortable whenever she has to look vaguely sexy or romantic - even hubby said so unprompted!).
They do the same thing on DWTS with the scores. If they hand Danny the 10's too early people might not vote as hard or think he's all set. Then they overscore the others a bit to keep things "close" so you're not sure who might win, wink wink ;)
Me too. On DWTS the manipulation has gotten so bad (to fit their narrative) that the scores hardly ever match what we see on the dance floor. Frustrating.
I deleted my previous comments by mistake as I wanted to edit it! Anyway, I am finding Danny doing a really good job with creating tension and romance in this dance. But there are occasions that I noticed that Oti's instructions in making Danny 'dance like a man' it ended up making his finishes look a little adrupt. Good open basics and sliding doors, and beautiful hip actions, but if only Oti allows Danny's natural softer balletic lines, he would looks a little more tender than 'aggressive'. I was a little disappointed as I was expecting Danny to score a ten in this dance, but I can't score this above a 9.
They got a 35 (8,9,9,9) only one point below Ore who got all 9's. Guess it could be worse. I was thinking he'd nail it enough to get 10's but maybe if he makes the finals the judges will choose this dance for him to redo.
Carlos Castro No! Not again! This week, despite being disappointed that I can't honestly award Danny a ten (or 9.5) I actually think he's better than Ore...
I'm actually beginning to find Danny's dances all look the same (other than his QS). He doesn't seem to be adapting style to dance, it's all MT. I don't look at this and think 'rumba'. He's punching his arms out much to hard, and not shaping properly. It actually looks to me like he's a bit pigeon toed as well? After coming together in that QS, they've gone back to being intensely separate. Both he and Ore have yet to leap that hurdle that some couples manage to 'get' very early, which is to see them dancing as a partnership.
SCD ~ If you hit Delete rather than Edit (and assuming you are still there & have not left the comment area) -- try holding Ctrl & hitting z -- may have to do it twice -- but it usually returns!! (I'm famous for that error!!) Sooo annoying!! :)
Danny has a background in dance..so they knew that when he was offered strictly...he should be marked on the dance regardless, he was the best..simple as!
I disagree with the majority of this comment section - I actually feel that Danny showed almost no emotion in this dance and tbh he showed no romance; his dancing was great but I felt like he didn't show enough feelings. A 7.
Am sure the annual SCD internal BBC email reads - Casting! Get some celebs that can dance (training immaterial), some that have the potential to grow and throw in some surprising names that will be shit throughout. Note to judges - always underscore those that can, reward those who improve and give the scraps to the hopeless. British public will always vote for the truly shite ones for giggles, whilst the unfair judges scores will even out the great and the good.
Technically good, but lacking chemistry (until the end, which was sweet). The wardrobe people did poor Oti no favors by putting her in a garish dress that essentially invites people to watch her underpants rather than the dance itself. The arms are overdone a bit.
I agree with you about the dress and the arms. It seemed forced, disagree about the chemistry. It's very hard for the male celebrities to partner the female pros. And Danny is almost always aware of Oti. At one point she lip syncs the lyrics and he smiles at her. :)
