@@arribaxxHe says: "Another life maybe." 😅 Given the context, he implies that she will maybe get married to a good man and won't work as a journalist in conflict zones as he cares about her well being.
The acting in this scene is just superb, when Archer tells maddie to take a picture fo the guard and her reaction just feels so real, and the reaction of Archer when he knows that Maddie knows he wont be getting on the plane. The facial expressions tells everything. It doesnt feel like a movie, but a true reality scene. How this movie didnt win any oscars is beyond me.
Didn't win an Oscar, look up who controls and had always controlled the diamond trade. Look up De beers, what family are they??? Why was apartheid in South Africa?? To legitimise and legalise THE Blood diamonds
" are you going to call me?" that line was so bittersweet and profound as if all the things that transpired over the course of the film from their first encounter to their final farewell, there could be a slim possibility that they could meet once again. as she is walking away without looking back at him, she knows that he may not make it out alive yet she was jokingly asking him anyway.
Jason Sadaka Gafar Many times movie and after in life experience a similiar ... Ah maybe my movie finish will better :) ;) Who knows life is unpredictable!
when you have to choose between love and purpose. Leaving on that plane with her, his long-sought purpose and reason for living would end. You need a partner in life but a purpose for living has to be there. Giving up something in the middle is not an option. He fought for his reason for existence and died for it in the end but fully contented with what he had achieved even though it didn't become real. What's beautiful is that she incredibly loves him but cannot make her love for him outweigh the fighting he had done for his life so far.
@sunil reddy: beautifully said Sunil. I'd add a little bit that throughout his life, his goal was to get out of that God forsaken place (in his own words) but then in the middle of that struggle he realizes there's more to life than just chasing diamonds. He chose death while pursuing that noble cause instead of living an easy life outside Africa. Colonel's words, the redness of the soil, his blood seeping into the ground and "In another life maybe alright?" all these came together so beautifully in this movie that even after 12 years, watching this movie evokes so strong emotions.
I'm a firm believer that great actors are born from great characters, and not the other way around. Danny Archer is one of the great characters in film. And Di Caprio nailed it.
In another life maybe alright? What chemistry, I hope to stumble upon a girl I can have that good of chemistry with one day. I was 14 when I first saw this movie, I'm 24 now still looking at this scene wanting to find my Maddy.
I had the same chemistry with a minor, we did many things together(except sex).. but I knew that she was too young for me(17 years gap).. I know she wanted something else but.. maybe in another life, huh?, I said to her.. she cried and said that she'll wait.. you'll find a better man, I said.. then I haven't seen her since then but I know she's doing good in university.. by the way, she was my high school student..
+Jose Quispe I think age is just a number,it doesnt usually mean someone is mentally mature. ive always seemed bigger, developed quickly, have grownup features, mentally more mature than peoplle my age. I fell in love with someone 20 years older than me,and when we separated,i thought to myself ,thank god it happened. We dont have the certainty of another life, so lets make the best of this one.
One of the best actors, period. That scene is excellent as you can feel the love/attraction, but yet they never once even kiss, which makes it even more spectacular.
Leonardo's acting is awesome, Jennifer is absolutely stunning, the scenery is beautiful, Background score & dialog is simply Perfect... what a movie say.. :)
How in the fucking world did Leo not get an Oscar for this and Clooney got an Oscar for some shit movie that 9/10 people probably can't remember the name of it now... Academy corrupt!
+Toph Beifong 1) a movie is not a performance. 2) a well written character is not even a performance. 3) a performance speaks for itself..the Academy doesn't care about the movie and how popular it was when giving out an Oscar to an actor/actress. 4)If you studied film you'd understand that actors have very little to do with how good a movie really is, other than selling the tickets 5)George Clooney won Best SUPPORTING actor, Leo was nom for best LEADING actor and lost to Forrest Whitaker in the last king of Scotland And last but not least 6) I am an actor. The reason why he hasnt won a Oscar is due to the criticism of his levels. Levels are a technical term in acting we use, and they are what really makes a performance (or artist). If you cannot a) define levels b) give an example of levels and c) show me an example of what bad, good and great levels are, then you cannot have a solid argument to condemn the Academy. Leo is a great movie star and perhaps a descent actor, but his levels are preventing him from being a great ARTIST....and there is a difference.
+Nick Dias ...Maybe your right there are technical things and all. Im no actor but movies are made for viewers not for critics to analyze and dissect. As a viewer the most important thing is how well you remember the performance of an actor and how the actor move the crowd and Dicaprio have done it in most of the movies he has been in, but for me this was his best performance and in my view he gave a better performance than Forrest Whitaker in Last King of Scotland.
+Dantes Inferno you are right. It's for the viewer...but that not why the Oscars were invented back in the 1920's...and they still hold true to what the stand for. That the problem with competition for art is the the audience ignorance of the craft does not go into account. But when you make art a competition, that is the right thing to do
Nick Dias ....I cant remember Dwayne the Rock giving out a memorable performance other than in WWE and no said he deserved an Oscar so dont talk rubbish...the other guy who really deserved an oscar was Johnny Depp....just look at his contrasting characters he played and how well he portrayed each of them
One of the BEST scenes I've seen & felt in a movie❤️, ESPECIALLY between 2 people from very DIFFERENT worlds!..(hopefully there will be more others that will agree) - THX for posting!👍🏽
What a great movie and a beautiful scene played by these great and beautiful actors. This movie has a lot of great scenes. These two actors shine like true stars in this film. 👍❤
In the past 12, 13 years since this movie came out, I had had two Maddys in my life and after each of them, I wished I had better not gotten on that damn plane.
He didnt want her to go with him, that move probably saved her life... awesome movie, emotional moment, she somehow knew that is last time that she looking at him, maybe she believe that there is maybe hope that they will be together again...
Thats right!! n one of the best emotional scene ever!!! see the firmness of De'Caprio's face, wen he gets emotional wid connely n his dilema wether to follow heart or head! just love it....
The picture of danny that is displayed in the magazine at the end of the movie before solomans speech is a different one.(A side pose for a camera.) Even oscar winners make mistakes. Its such an imperfect world we live in just like the way it is depicted in the movie.
It was an amazing movie, I just watched several times and still . The story was an incredible and had an enormous affection on me . Nevertheless, Leo did a great job to realize a situation as a real. He's GOAT
1:42 the simplicity of it , WOW! It almost like you hear Forrest in the background saying, "If I knew this was the last time I would hold Bubba, I would have thought of something better to say..."
Every time I watch this scene after a while it reminds me that love still exist in this world and in me coz in my day to day life I feel love is just a shit and girls r fucking coward who couldn't dare ... but this scene gives me a different meaning of love ... that dialogue "another life" I could die for that ...
Doggone I love good movies. You know, when you get the right two actors in a film, and they put together scenes like this one...that's when you have the pleasure of experiencing the power of cinema. This, along with the scene at the end when they talk on the phone are the best scenes in the movie. It's interesting, when I first saw BD, I felt this scene had a sadness to it. Especially when DiCaprio's character says, "In another life maybe?" I didn't know how sad it was though, until the movie was over. Now when I watch this scene I do it with foresight. And that makes even more moving and powerful.
this is really amazing acting - - gives one faith the old "love story" :) - - - They had great chemistry rite throughout this film not just in the end,,, but yeah it was extra special at the end...
Find a Goodman...I have 3 sister's n they all married with good man..i preferred my Life.....These lines are most terrific pace of dis movie....Still looking that any one can beat this Gem..I know I will be looking forever...
