Transitioning to skating in an urban environment opens up a whole new world. We asked urban and park skater Danny Aldridge to share his advice for people who want to test the waters of this creative way to enjoy your environment and your skates. Two key points to consider: First, in urban skating there is movement all around you; people, cars, buses, strollers, etc. Second, urban skating encompasses a huge variety of terrain; cobblestone, grates, asphalt, granite, concrete, etc. As an urban skater you must master the basics and employ all the necessary safety gear.
He explains his choice of skates. In this video he rides the Rollerblade® RB 110 3WD skate. Danny walks through the basics for urban rides like how to start quickly, how to stop using the T-Stop, and how to turn in a small space, and the correct body position for ultimate control. In an urban setting you will encounter obstacles in your direct path. Danny shows you how to jump them with the perfect pop and jump. Then he shares his tip on how to land compressed and roll away smooth.
We hope you enjoy this tutorial on urban skating. Danny had a blast putting it together and hope it helps you expand your skating environment. In every environment you skate in Rollerblade® encourages you to be safe, be respectful of your fellow humans, and have fun!

You missed out that, if a car is coming on you in the street because you where not aware of the surroundings or something happen. You have no choice, you must do a high jump front flip. This would be the easiest and quickest way to avoid any crash.

I'd add: if you fall you'd better have put your pads on! If a pedestrian "helpfully" moves into your path, it's your responsibility! Momentum is your friend over rough surfaces, typically found where you have to stop! Be decisive and make it clear to others where you are going. No shame in using a heel brake until you've mastered other stopping methods. Maintain a low profile, only kids should notice you (you know this when they say "wow!" to their parents.) It's addictive.

@RenatoGarcia1000
@RenatoGarcia1000 6 лет назад
Man... This is how I learned it. Try to spend some time working on keeping your weight and balance on one single leg. (Check both legs e choose the one you get it better). Spend some time just rolling and balancing over that leg. When you comfortable on doing this, try to put the other leg back in a L position (not a T)... And, at first moment, don't focus on break fast with that back foot. Just position that leg well, and put the less weight you can on that back leg. You gonna stop on longer distance. But once you keep the balance on that L position (not T, this is really important) you will be able to put more and more pressure on back leg and stop shorter and shorter

@dmofOfficial
@dmofOfficial 6 лет назад
He has three wheels cause they're too large to fit four on his frames. If you're starting out, go with four wheels until you feel in control and want more speed. There's plenty of speed to be had with four wheels. I'm not sure about urban skates, but aggressive skates use a Universal Frame System (UFS). The frame is the part that holds the wheels. These UFS frames are easily interchangeable, especially with the four-wheel setup. The point of UFS is so that if you find a boot that you really like, then you can just replace or inter-change frame/wheels together in one shot. This means that if you start with a good boot that uses a UFS-style frame, then you can more affordably upgrade and swap between 3/4-wheel setups. I also mention this because a 3-wheel setup will require a different frame than a 4-wheel setup. Rollerblade is usually extremely good and using such parts (UFS) in their products. Been rocking RB products since 1992 (hockey and aggressive). Have fun!

Hi, like that very much. Really nice place. If I go to my town in Germany, the problem is that there are not so many flat places, it goes up or it goes down and maybe flat in between. On your video, it looks like there are never hills. Would be appreciated if you could explain how to go downhill and what breaking technic to use for urban skaters and what is the best technic tips. Think there are some, as the place you have to break is much smaller sometimes and there are more obstacles than on the wide area places.

@SapiaNt0mata
@SapiaNt0mata 4 года назад
for a beginner it will take a few weeks. not half-year or something of course. each individual is different so you can't calculate. some struggle to roll, others struggle to balance, some learn fast, others learn slow, etc. i can roll from the start but i have trouble with turning. also, the time you practice each day matters. if you practice for half-hour you'll take longer than someone that practice 1-2 hours. how many days you practice also matters. if you practice 3-4 days per week you'll take longer than someone that practices every day. if you want to learn fast = practice every day for at least 1 hour. and there are 3 levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced. if you want to go to intermediate it will take a few months.

First of all, there is no braking, just slowing down.The T-stop is very hard to learn because it requires you to be able to glide on one foot. A beginner will probably be unable to do this, and since beginners usually have skates leaning to the inside, they will also be turning when on one foot, etc. This is a good example of someone who has mastered the fundamentals but then forgotten them. Finally, the easiest way to slow down is the snowplow, because you have both feet on the ground and you can steer.
